Music Department News... 3 1 Au gust 2016 Music Tour 2017 & Chocolate Drive Planning has started towards next year s performance tour we will be heading to the Gold Coast, with performances both in the coastal area as well as up on the hinterland. The tour is scheduled for the last week of first semester, from June 19th to 23rd. Activities, besides our performances, will include our theme night as well as a night at the cinema, 10-pin bowling and Movie World. The cost of our 2015 tour was $550 and we anticipate that this trip will be similar, allowing for inflation. To assist in defraying the costs we will be running our traditional chocolate drive, starting on Thursday 8th September. Each box sold contributes $25 towards trip expenses. Students will receive a letter over the coming week with a permission form that must be signed and returned before they can collect their chocolates. Money must be returned at the end of the first week of next term. EISTEDDFOD The first week of August was a very busy time for all the music students and staff as they competed in the Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod. Across the 8 days of competition we had 35 entries, ranging in size from duets up to our largest ensemble, The Soundwaves. It was a successful campaign, with many of our groups receiving places amongst tough competition: 1st Place The Black Pearls Percussion Ensemble 2nd Place The Ludwigs Percussion Ensemble String Orchestra 18 years string quartet 3rd Place 18 years string duet (Jasmin & Amy) 12 years string quartet Musical Theatre vocal ensemble (Viva) 18 years string quartet Highly Commended The Sonors Percussion Ensemble Stage Band Concert Band Small String Ensemble 18 years string duet (Eliza & Casey; Kayla & Tahiti) 13 years string duet (Lucy & Yasmin) 15 years string duet (Tai & Maya)

On the Green On the Green is an open-mic, lunchtime concert series being held each Wednesday on the grassed area (the Green) next to the music block. Last week was the first of the concerts and a number of year 8 vocal students performed short sets for a small but appreciate audience of fellow students. Unfortunately the weather was threatening so we had to move off the green for this one... Students interested in performing should see Ms Bradshaw to put their name on the roster. Noosa Long Weekend As part of the Noosa Long Weekend Festival, the Soundwaves were approached to do a flashmob performance in Noosa Civic. Many of our vocal students turned up on what turned out to be a cold winter s morning and wowed the crowd with their performance.

Strings Night The string students presented their annual Strings Night concert last Wednesday to a small, but appreciative, audience. The concert featured performances by the String Orchestra and Junior String Ensemble, as well as by a number of duets, trios and quartets that competed at he recent eisteddfod. The students did a great job, and created a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere through their performances.

AMEB Theory Results Earlier this term, all the students in the year 7 and 8 Music Excellence classes completed an AMEB Theory exam. The year 7s sat the Grade 1 exam, while the year 8s sat the Grade 2 exam. Some outstanding results were achieved by the students: Year 7 of the 48 students who completed the exam: Over 90% were successful in passing the exam Two thirds of the students received a grade of Honours or higher 12 students received a High Distinction with 8 students achieving a score of 100% Year 8 of the 25 students who completed the exam: Two thirds of students were successful in passing the exam One third of the students received a grade of Honours or higher 2 students received High Distinction with 1 student achieving a score of 100%
