LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL FALL PLAY AUDITION INFORMATION A Midsummer Night s Dream READ BOTH PAGES VERY CAREFULLY! (And share it with your parents!) Audition Dates and Appointment Registration Because of the large number of people who audition for our productions, you must register for an audition appointment in advance on signupgenius.com - search for LHS Playmakers. No walk-in auditions are permitted. WHO: All Liberty/Freedom/Heritage students and current Excelsior, Edna Hill and Knightsen 8 th graders who have an acceptable GPA for the most recent grading period are welcome to audition. You must have a 2.0 GPA with no more than one F for the last grading period no exceptions; we will no longer deal with people who are always on the edge of being eligible. To know if you are eligible, check your quarter grades for the most recent grading period (end of March). Also be aware of your most recent progress report grades because, if your semester grades in June are not acceptable, you will have to be dismissed from the cast. WHEN: Preliminary auditions are on May 18 and May 20. You must sign up for ONE audition appointment only on either of these days. You can sign up for your audition appointment at signupgenius.com (link on LHS Playmakers website). WHAT: The audition appointment consists of a five-minute session during which you will perform prepared monologues for the casting directors. The delivery of your monologues should take no more than a total of 4 minutes, 30 seconds. Your monologues must be from those provided. Auditions are closed. You will audition in front of the casting directors only. You may not bring friends or family members into the auditorium during your audition. Dress comfortably but appropriately. You are, after all, trying to make an impression. The Call-Back Audition The call-back audition is an opportunity for the casting directors to hear some of the people who auditioned read together from the script. The names of those whom the casting directors wish to see again will be posted on the Playmakers page of the Liberty website on the evening of May 20th. The call-back audition will take place on Monday, May 22nd from 3:30-8:30 pm. The audition is open only to those who are called back. Everyone who auditions should leave the entire block of time open just in case he/she gets called back.
IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: Other than a dress/technical rehearsal, the call-back audition can be the most frustrating time for actors because the casting directors needs cannot be fully predetermined or pre-scheduled. Because of this, directors cannot accept requests to leave early or arrive late -- not even a few minutes, no exceptions, not for jobs, not appointments, not for anything! You may sit for an hour before you are asked to read. You may be asked to read early and then not again, but you will stay there just on the chance that the directors want to hear you read with another actor. That s simply the nature of the call-back audition. You will need to be quiet during the entire session except when you are reading from the script. Even whispering can be very distracting to the other actors and the casting directors during this pressure-filled situation. If you are hyper by nature, bring something to do so that you will be occupied when you are not reading. Positive behavior will give a good impression. Negative behavior will most certainly be noticed. You are always auditioning. The Equal-opportunity, Non-traditional Casting policy Unless it is important to the script, factors such as race/ethnicity or physical capability are not considered when making casting decisions, nor is what grade you are in. When you audition, you will be considered for all of the roles that are appropriate for the type of show we are doing. (See the character descriptions for more information.) NOTE: There are roles in A Midsummer Night s Dream for which physical capability could be a factor. There are no roles for which race/ethnicity is a factor. Gender may be fluid for some roles. Please fill out all of the information in the audition packet BEFORE you arrive for your appointment. This includes: 1. Audition Application Form 2. Resumé of Acting Experience 3. A recent picture (You will get the picture back after auditions.) 4. Actor s Contract with your signature and your parent s signature 5. Calendar with ALL of your personal conflicts between the day you audition and the final performance.

Actors' Contract for Playmakers Production Name of student (print clearly) --Parents and students: Where indicated, initial each item as you complete it or agree to it. --Complete this contract and bring it to your audition appointment. Initial each line: Student Parent Student has filled out the Audition Application Form and attached a Résumé of Theatrical Experience and a recent picture. Student and parent have indicated all time commitments/obligations on the calendar provided. Because the directors determine most of the rehearsals after the show is cast, it is important that we have an accurate picture of your ability to rehearse every day between now and the end of the run before we cast the show. On the calendar, please indicate all of the time commitments and obligations that would prevent you from being at a rehearsal. Be sure to include work, doctor's appointments, church services, group/club meetings, family obligations, vacation plans, etc. Don t assume that we know ANY of your commitments-even if they involve Liberty Performing Arts. Parents will sometimes have obligations for the family that a student doesn t know about. Those need to be included on the conflict calendar, too. Parents and students must do this together!! Crew assignments are just as important as onstage roles! Being assigned a crew without being onstage is the same as being cast in the show; all stipulations below apply. Student/parent understand that all rehearsals involving student s character, are mandatory. If student is cast, parents/guardians nor student will schedule anything additional on any rehearsal date. Student/parent have noted all rehearsal/work times and dates marked MANDATORY in red and, if student has current commitments to those times and dates, they will rearrange those commitments. (If this cannot be done, you cannot audition for the show. No exceptions. You MUST be at ALL MANDATORY rehearsals/performances/work days.) Student/parent understand that, by auditioning, the student agrees to accept whatever role s/he is given. If a student quits the production after the cast list has been posted for ANY reason, other than a doctor-mandated reason (official note required), that student will not be permitted to audition for and/or participate in any of the following activities for a full calendar year (fall play, improv team, haunted house, musical) and Executive Council members risk being put on probation or losing their position. Student agrees to work cooperatively with everyone who is connected with this production and to respect everyone who is in a leadership position, including fellow students. SIGN NEXT PAGE Student/parent will work together to make sure that the student has adequate and timely transportation to and from all rehearsals, performances and work sessions.
