2007 The Marian Anderson Prize for Emerging Classical Artists Presented by the Marian Anderson Award, in partnership with Astral Artistic Services, and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The Prize, held biennially, is created to support significantly talented, classically trained singers who are beginning their professional careers. It was inspired by the example of the many individuals who provided vital assistance to contralto Marian Anderson as she began her own artistic journey. 1st Prize $6,000 2nd Prize $3,000 3rd Prize $1,500 The Marian Anderson Legacy Award* $1,500 *designated for a promising African American singer The Panel reserves the right not to award any or all prizes. Auditions Preliminary Auditions: Friday, November 2, 2007 Final Auditions: Saturday, November 3, 2007 Both audition rounds are held in Rock Hall at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Awards Presentation & Prize Recital Friday, December 7, 2007, 7:30pm Perelman Theater, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania All winners appear in the Prize Recital: The 1st-Prize winner will be prepared to perform a 30-minute recital program. The 2nd-Prize winner will be prepared to perform a 20-minute recital program. The 3rd-Prize & Marian Anderson Legacy Award winners will each be prepared to perform a 10-minute recital program. All applicants must be available for the Prize Recital on December 7. Illness (certified by a written doctor s excuse) will be the only accepted reason for not participating in the Prize Recital. Prize Recital The Prize Recital is Friday, December 7, 2007 at 7:30pm in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All winners appear in the Prize Recital: The 1st-Prize winner will be prepared to perform a 30-minute recital program. The 2nd-Prize winner will be prepared to perform a 20-minute recital program. The 3rd-Prize & Marian Anderson Legacy Award winners will each be prepared to perform a 10-minute recital program. All applicants must be available for the Prize Recital on December 7. Winners may be required to donate a future performance, for Marian Anderson Foundation efforts. Eligibility The competition is open to all singers age 35 and under who study*, reside, or were born in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania.The competition will not discriminate against any person because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or preference, national origin, or disability. Previous 1 st -Prize winners are not eligible to re-apply. *enrolled in a bona fide course of study (lessons and/or coachings do not qualify as a course of study) All applicants must be available for the Prize Recital on December 7. The Audition Committee reserves the right to select the number of applicants for the live audition; submission of an application does not guarantee advancement to the live auditions. (continued)

Live Audition Repertoire 4 Operatic arias 4 Art songs or concert works of the singer s choice (As many as two spirituals may be included.) A limited number of changes in repertoire are possible, provided they are within the standard repertoire.
