To honor our veterans, Ken and Steve will perform a medley of the theme songs from all the branches of the United States Military: Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marine Corps. Come and join us for what is sure to be a great musical evening! Used Book Sale Wednesday, November 1st was a chilly fall day but our faithful FOLD friends and book lovers still came out to support the book and media sale! We were busy all day and were happy to bring in a total of $2,669.50 for the month, including sales from the showcase, online sales, Bryant branch library, and our shelves on the 2 nd floor of HFCL which are available for browsing everyday that the library is open. Our next sale will be on Wednesday, December 6. Used Book Sale (continued) The features for December will include holiday items, stocking stuffers, and a large selection of Disney VHS tapes. We will also offer a very special area of books and other items which are in excellent, gift-quality condition. You may find items here which are nice enough to use as stocking stuffers or to wrap up for someone on your shopping list. There will be lots of new items here, not all leftovers from the November sale, and prices are low, low, low! The children s shelves will be restocked with some nice new donations and library withdrawals. FOLD has received quite a few beautiful picture books lately, so it s worth taking a look. Our $1.00 surprise bags went over quite well in November, so we will have a nice new batch of those ready for those of you willing to risk a dollar to see what s inside! And if you haven t visited the rotunda area on sale day, then you may be missing some of our featured items and some real bargains! This area is filled with our orange dot (25 cents) and blue dot (50 cents) items, as well as other clearance items at low, low prices along with some of our features for the month. As always, we are counting on donations to keep the sale running successfully. Please bring us your gently used books, videos, magazines, etc. We have a special need for children s books, for textbooks, and for books less than ten years old. Monetary donations are always welcome and appreciated as well. Please plan on attending the last sale of the year on Wednesday, December 6th, from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. And then get ready for a special Saturday sale on January 13 th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This will be one of only two Saturday sales in 2018, so please mark your calendars now! Laura Litterio FOLD Book Sale Coordinator

BLOCKBUSTER FILMS 7:00 p.m. Henry Ford Centennial Library November 27 - Kon Tiki (2012) Based on the amazing true adventure of Thor Heyerdahl (Pal Sverre Hagen), Kon-Tiki is the tale of a Norwegian explorer in 1947 who embarks on the voyage of a lifetime to prove a point. When the scientific community rejects his theory that South Americans were the first to settle in the Polynesian Islands, Heyerdahl resolves to prove its validity - and save his reputation - by embarking on the voyage himself. Recruiting a group of five men who are just bold enough to tackle the seemingly impossible trip, he builds a simple raft to original pre-columbian specifications and sets off on the epic 101 day-long journey across the treacherous ocean to meet his fate, while the world watches. (Rated PG-13, 96 min.) December 4 - Life (2017) Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected. (Rated R, 104 min.) December 11 - Going in Style (2017) Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin team up as lifelong buddies Willie, Joe and Al, who decide to buck retirement and step off the straight and narrow for the first time in their lives when their pension funds become a corporate casualty. Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, the three risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money. (Rated PG-13, 96 min.) December 18 - Joyeux Noel (2005) Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) tells the true-life story of the spontaneous Christmas Eve truce declared by Scottish, French and German troops in the trenches of World War I. Enemies leave their weapons behind for one night as they band together in brotherhood and forget about the brutalities of war. (Rated PG-13, 116 min.) December 25 - NO PROGRAM - Christmas FOLD WELCOMES NEW MEMBER Madeline B. Keller Library News As always, there is a lot going on at the library; check the website at www.dearbornlibrary.org for a complete listing. HFCL Restroom Renovation Project In late November 2017, a major remodeling of both the women s and men s restrooms located on the first floor, lobby area, at Henry Ford Centennial Library is scheduled. This project is expected to span into the new year. When complete, both restrooms will have new flooring and tile, new sinks and toilets, and new counters and mirrors. During the project, neither restroom will be open for use so patrons enjoying the Blockbuster Movie series or other programs in the auditorium will need to take the elevator or stairs to the public restrooms located on the 2 nd and 3 rd floors of the building. There will definitely be noise and dust as the project commences and at various phases in the construction. But afterward, the public will be able to enjoy updated facilities. Bryant Library Ceiling Painting Project Bryant Branch Library will be closed to the public Monday, November 20 thru Thursday, November 23 for a ceiling painting project and the Thanksgiving holiday. Since the branch is always closed on Fridays, it will not re-open until Saturday, November 25 for regular hours from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During the closed days, the drop box will be open and patrons may return materials there at any time. Call for Entries The Library is asking for the community to submit entries for two anthologies that will be printed in connection with the Big Read Dearborn program that will take place in the Spring of 2018. Please consider providing either a family recipe (something that has been passed down from generation to generation or an original family recipe) OR submit a family story. This can be about your family s experience as immigrants or a story about a family name. How did your family get their last name or why does your father have that interesting first name? Every family has stories to tell and we want to know about them! The deadline for submissions has been extended to December 31, 2017. Visit bigreaddearborn.org/call-for-entries for details. Bellini Opera There will be a holiday performance given by Bellini Opera on December 21 at 7 p.m. This will be held at Henry Ford Centennial Library in the auditorium. No registration and no charge. Holiday Hours All Dearborn Public Library locations will be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, November 25. All Dearborn Public Libraries locations will also be closed from Friday, December 22 through Monday, December 25 and again from Friday, December 29 through Monday, January 1, 2018. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
