January 2016 First ever Iowa Lakes Bond Referendum Proposal (Bond designed for critical improvements at all five campuses) Iowa Lakes Community College is celebrating 50 years of service to the community. As a key economic development factor, Iowa Lakes provides educational opportunities to students as well as preparation and training for our local business and industry partners. The college administration and board are asking constituents whether or not to approve an upcoming bond referendum which would provide critical improvements that will support educational programming at all five campuses. As an educational institution, it is our responsibility to be a leader in energy efficiency, planning and programming. Each of the 5 campuses will benefit from the bond referendum. In Estherville, the proposed project involves an addition to house musicals, plays, competitions, talent shows, concerts, camps, lectures and meetings. Also additional classrooms for the digital, social and broadcast productions program will be created. In Emmetsburg, the proposed project involves a student services one-stop addition which coordinates services needed by incoming students. In Algona, the proposed project involves a small business/entrepreneurial center. In Spencer, the proposed project involves a new roof and exterior improvements. In Spirit Lake, the proposed project involves renovation to provide space for technical and industrial education. Also building security will be enhanced at all campuses by adding computerized, keyless entries. The total bond referendum is $16,000,000. (The difference between the bond referendum and the project costs will be covered by the college s facility funds.) A full listing can be found at www.iowalakes.edu/ bond. Individuals may vote now at their County Auditor s office. Voting will occur on Tuesday, February 2 nd at your regular polling locations. Projects will be bid in accordance with Iowa Code. Iowa Lakes will only levy for the funding needed for these projects.
