Apply online at KazooCivic.com Scholarships funded in part by EXPLORE CREATIVE PLAY...................... for ages 3-5 years Creative play sparks children s natural ability to become the characters they hear about in the books they love. This program will give your child the chance to experience the fundamentals of theatre all in one class. They will foster listening and cooperative skills as well as self-esteem and individual expression! ACTING FOR KIDS.................... for ages 6-8 years Students learn the fundamentals of acting and basic storytelling through theatre games, lessons and activities. This class culminates in an informal, in-class presentation. BROADWAY KIDS.................... for ages 6-8 years This class is for the young student who is ready to explore music and singing. Kids will develop their speaking and singing voices along with new music concepts through listening, singing, game-playing, visuals, imitating and imaginative play. DANCES OF MADAGASCAR............. for ages 6-8 years Come play in this creative movement class that explores the dance styles of Madagascar JR! Students explore elements of jazz, hip hop and traditional dances and will find character through dance in this interactive and fun course. EMPOWER INTRO TO ACTING.................... for ages 9-12 years An exploration into the fundamentals of acting. Students work to develop the tools an actor needs: focus, relaxation and concentration. Students will also develop foundational scene work skill such as identifying goals, obstacles, imagery and playing the action. INTRO TO VOICE..................... for ages 9-12 years No matter if you sing in the church choir or along with the radio, in this class you will learn how to put those pipes to use with good technique and style! Students will learn the fundamental concepts and training of the voice including posture and breathing techniques, phrasing and how to stay on pitch. BEGINNING HIP HOP.................. for ages 9-12 years In this high energy class students will explore the latest street dance styles including elements of breaking, popping, locking and overall grooves as used in current Broadway productions! Students will be encouraged to step outside the box and bring their individual style and personality. Tuesdays, February 5 March 12 Thursdays, February 7 March 14 Fridays, February 8 March 15 ENHANCE PLAYING SHAKESPEARE............... for ages 13-15 years Students will dive into scene work and focus on what to do with a script how to find information about the characters and then communicate that onstage. This class will teach the tools actors need once they get the part! MUSICAL THEATRE VOICE............. for ages 13-15 years Students learn basic singing and musical skills and the vocal techniques needed for successful musical theater singing. Students will work on proper breathing, diction, healthy singing and conveying/expressing a story through song. MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE............. for ages 13-15 years In this course students will cover aspects of Broadway style dance techniques. Students will explore classic and contemporary styles of musical theatre dance to build skills and techniques for performance! Featuring fun and popular music from favorite Broadway shows students will also explore creating character through movement. ESSENTIALS IN ACTING............... for ages 16 and up This class will build and deepen fundamental acting skills, scene work, and preparation. Students will be given a chance to explore their range in a safe and caring environment. MUSICAL THEATRE VOICE............. for ages 16 and up Learn the proper vocal techniques of musical theatre singing as well as songs that best fit the student s type and showcase your versatility. Work to build your audition book and become fully prepared for auditions. Wednesdays, February 6 March 13 ENVISION EXCEL INTRO TO DANCE.................... for ages 16 and up Have you always wanted to explore a certain style of dance? Or maybe you want to dust off those tap shoes one more time? This is the dance class that will offer students a bit of everything! We will explore hip hop, tap, musical theatre dance, jazz and even contemporary styles. Students will work on technical elements and fundamentals of each styles and learn short combinations to help them feel like a more confident dancer and performer. YOGA FOR ACTORS................... for ages 16 and up Yoga can improve the lives of people of all ages in a variety of ways, including reducing stress, anxiety and depression, improving performance at work and in sport, reducing risk of heart condition, obesity, diabetes and cancer and speeding up recovery from training. Yoga makes us feel good all-around, improving our sense of well-being and making us feel lighter, more connected to ourselves and appreciative of the important relationships in our lives. SCENE STUDY....................... for ages 16 and up Working with medium length scenes, students will develop foundational scene work skills such as identifying goals, obstacles, imagery and playing the action. DAYTIME TAP........................for ages 50 and up Join us for this fun daytime class as you explore the fundamentals of tap dance. Explore the rhythm and musicality of tap while learning for the first time or brushing up on your basic tap technique. We will explore tap styles from different eras and all your favorite music. SOFT YOGA......................... for ages 50 and up Yoga can help slow down the effects of the aging process by maintaining muscle softness and flexibility, keeping the mind alert and awake, encouraging relaxation and strengthening muscles and joints. This class is perfect for those looking for a gentle, well supported relaxing yoga practice. Soft Yoga will encourage the body, mind, and spirit to remain healthy and strong. AUDITION INTENSIVE................. for ages 16 and up A two-hour workshop for anyone who is interested in auditioning at the Civic at any level. The Audition Workshop is led by our Artistic Director and is designed to better prepare the actor for any auditioning experience. The class will provide all of the fundamentals and knowledge for a successful audition. The workshop is broken down into sections, focusing on the important topics you can expect at a professional audition. All of these useful tools and tips can be applied to everything in a performer s career - from resumes, headshots to auditions, interviews and much more! The Audition Intensive Workshop is in a setting that is nurturing and supportive and is also educational. February 2 MASTER CLASS READER S THEATRE TECHNIQUES....... for ages 16 and up Before auditions for our Senior Class Reader s Theatre production of Harvey, all adults can spend a few weeks digging deep into how to successfully combine your acting skills with script in hand. Students will learn how to connect to the script and to their scene partner. DANCE ON THIS ISLAND............... for ages 16 and up Join us to explore the creative movement inspired by the Civic s production of Once On This Island. Learn dance techniques and improvisation tools to create unique characters. INTRO TO HIP HOP................... for ages 16 and up Hip Hop dance has taken over the dance world and greatly influenced musical theatre! In this master class we will explore street dance styles, isolations and grooves as well as learn a combination. If you love shows like Hamilton or In The Heights you won t want to miss this class! ACTING FOR THE CAMERA............. for ages 16 and up This On Camera workshop gives actors the unique introduction to the world in front of the camera. Performers will be walked through the process, exploring various on camera techniques, while using scenes and audition sides from a television show as source material. This Master Class is conducted by Stephen Wallem from the Emmy Award Winning television series Nurse Jackie. Don t miss this wonderful opportunity! BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE TAP DANCE... for ages 16 and up Join us for a fun, immersive class where you can let loose and tap your cares away! Whether you re a beginner or have some experience, this master class is a great way to get your feet moving. Learn all you need to know about tap, working on the basics up to intermediate level combinations. MUSICAL THEATRE JAZZ.............. for ages 16 and up Jazz dance showcases a dancer s individual style and originality and is at the core of the musical theatre dance numbers we all love! This master class will focus on jazz technique including across the floor sequences and a fun upbeat combination. Dancers will work on developing their character and storytelling through movement. SPRING BREAK DAY CAMP SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK KIDS............ for K-3rd Grade School has never been more fun! This fast-paced musical is based on the 1970s popular cartoon series that teaches lessons with clever and catchy tunes. Students participating in these camps will learn the skills of a triple threat: acting, singing and dancing culminating in a performance to show their skills. SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK JR.............. for 4th-9th Grade School has never been more fun! This fast-paced musical is based on the 1970s popular cartoon series that teaches lessons with clever and catchy tunes. Students participating in these camps will learn the skills of a triple threat: acting, singing and dancing culminating in a performance to show their skills. EXTENDED DAY OPTIONS FOR SPRING BREAK DAY CAMP FEE DATE & TIME WEEKLY EARLY DROP-OFF AND/OR LATE PICK-UP PASSES To make the camp experience easy for your family, we are pleased to offer our Weekly Early Drop-Off and/or Late Pick-Up again this year. You have the option for your camper to arrive at camp before check-in starting at 8:00 am, or stay after camp has ended until 5:15 pm at the latest. Early drop-off begins at 8:00 am and Late Pick-Up campers can be picked up until 5:15 pm. $300 $300 $30 $30 9:00 am 4:00 pm Performance: Friday, April 5 at 5:15 pm in the Civic Auditorium 9:00 am 4:00 pm Performance: Friday, April 5 at 5:15 pm in the Civic Auditorium CAMP INFORMATION: Both camps will perform in the Civic Auditorium on the last day of camp at 5:15 pm! There will be a supervised lunch daily so have your camper bring a sack lunch and an afternoon snack for energy! On the last day, the Civic will provide dinner for the campers before the performance so family can just meet them at the theatre for the show! Our Campers will work with a director/choreographer and music director to learn the process of putting on a show in a week! Each will have a featured moment, be it solo or in a smaller group. The focus is working together as a team to have fun and support each other on and off stage!
