ABOUT aadhar aadhar, which in Gujarati literally means to support. aadhar is a charitable trust established in the year 2002 with its operational office based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India with a commitment to revitalise Arts and Crafts of India. The mission of aadhar is to develop programs and opportunities that support traditional craftspeople in an effort to sustain their livelihood, which contributes to the collective cultural heritage. aadhar works at a grass root level in the art and craft communities of India with an aim to stimulate, foster and promote individual artists and provide them a platform to enhance skills and become their own brand ambassadors, rather than just render support to sell their ethnic products. Our task is not only to preserve and spread the legacy but instil a sense of belonging towards this inherent talent among next generation of craftsmen and induct a sense of responsibility to adhere the art and craft as a valuable asset rather than just giving it a commercial perspective. Regardless of the ethnicity of an individual or a group, aadhar carries out various programs in the field of arts, craft and culture for the good of general public with a motive to benefit craftsmen and their families. Our team of experts jointly work on below mentioned area with highly creative and professional outputs: 1. Research and analysis 2. Profiling artisans 3. Documentation 4. Branding and publicity 5. Designing audio-visual presentations 6. Film Making 7. Design and execute forums, seminars, interactive workshops, theme pavilions, exhibitions, sales etc 8. Trainings to Artisans 9. Facilitation for creating Artisans Enterprise 10. Activities to spread awareness about art and crafts sector 11. Develop a marketing support network to create employment 12. Income generating programs 13. Education on Health & Hygiene 14. Promote non-formal medium of education Expert team in aadhar provide consultation services for above all. JURY for The Heritage Film Festival 2014 The Jury for the Heritage Film Festival 2014 to be conducted on 30-31 October and 1-2 November in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The jury screens film submissions and judge them on a variety of criteria including relevance of research, content, cinematic style and clarity of presentation. Quotes by JURY Members from previous years Shri Hridaynath Gharekhan: (hridaynath@hotmail.com) Being a member of the film selection jury for the HFF by itself is an honour and I am proud to be a part of it. The screening sessions were like an explosion of information even for us. It was a visual treat, which I am glad, will be available to all of us. From generation to generation, some of the most unique knowledge and information is being passed in various forms and that is also on the verge of extinction because of a lack of effort and interest from our side in preserving and protecting it. The major advantage of this initiative of aadhar is that it is providing a platform to the films made of a different genre. The world over, films based on arts and craft or heritage are marginalized as a separate category. So aadhar is not only documenting and preserving Indian heritage, it allows the artisans and craftspeople m to connect with a larger audience and that is the most important thing. Shri Villoo Mirza: For me, aadhar is a humble institution that started its activity, simple and pure in its form, which is a very modest way to bring awareness of crafts and the artisan fraternity. aadhar received a very overwhelming response of film entries in its first attempt in 2012, thus encouraging aadhar to make the HFF an annual event. Shri Ashoke Chaterjee : (ashchat@prabhatedu.org) A very productive effort, and an educative experience for me personally. The entries suggest the richness of our craft heritage, and the relevance of that heritage to a sustainable future. The commitment of the film-makers to India s artisans was wonderfully evident. A key outcome could be a festival of these films which travels to other centres as well as to schools of art, design, craft, architecture --- and to the public that needs to be much more aware of this great Indian heritage, as well as of the threats that now face it. By focusing on issues of craft quality, these films can be used to help generate a demand for the handmade. The future of Indian craft depends entirely on generating a value and a demand for handcrafted quality within a new generation of users and consumers, at home and overseas. The Heritage Film Festival thus offers an important marketing tool, as well as a rich archive. 9
