PROJECT DIGITAL MONTENEGRIN BIBLIOGRAPHY 1494-1994 o National library of Montenegro Đurđe Crnojević launched the project entitled The Digital Montenegrin Bibliography in 2010 and complete it in 2012. o The implementation of the project was funded by the Ministry of Culture. o Retrospective national bibliographies fulfill aspirations to collect and present the overall creative achievements of a nation, expressed in written or another form o Bibliography provide a unique source of information for the research of every aspect of social life.
Goal of project DMB o Project aiming to compile the most comprehensive list of the overall publishing and printing production of Montenegro, including all bibliographic information on Montenegro and titles written by authors of Montenegrin origin
History and Structure of Montenegrin Retrospective Bibliography (1494-1994) o The National Library of Montenegro launched, in 1979, the Retrospective Montenegrin Bibliography project o The Montenegrin Bibliography starts with the first printed Cyrillic book in SI Europe: Oktoih Prvoglasnik (Octoechos the First Voice) printed in the Crnojević printing press in 1494, and ends in 1994. - Vol. I - monographs (book 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10);
History and Structure of Montenegrin Retrospective Bibliography (1494-1994) o A list of serial titles given in the second volume, covering the period from the first Montenegrin serial Grlica issued in 1835 until 1994 - Vol. II serials (book 1, 2) o The third volume is the most extensive one as it compiles selective lists of articles published in serials. - Vol. III discussions, articles and literary contributions in serials (selective inclusion of works; book 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15);
History and Structure of Montenegrin Retrospective Bibliography (1494-1994) o The fourth volume contains bibliographies in foreign languages: Russian, Czech, Italian and English - Vol. IV exteriorica works by foreign authors relating to Montenegro and its people (selective inclusion; book 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) o The fifth book of Vol. IV is The Bibliography of books on Montenegro in the languages of nations and minorities from former Yugoslavia until 1994 o 32 books have been published on 15.030 pages of encyclopedic format o They list a total of 229,611 bibliographic entries
Montenegrin Bibliography selection criteria o Three selection criteria have been used for the inclusion of material: territorial, national and subject.
Montenegrin Bibliography selection criteria Under the territorial criterion, MB includes: o all books, brochures and printed music published on the territory of Montenegro since 1494 regardless of the language, alphabet and author s ethnic origin o all serial titles printed or published in Montenegro; o selection of articles and contributions in serials which meet the criteria defined for monographs and serials.
Montenegrin Bibliography selection criteria Under the national criterion, MB comprises: o all works written by Montenegrins and other authors originating from Montenegro published out of Montenegro, regardless of the language and alphabet; o works produced by printers of Montenegrin origin printed abroad. o Following the subject criterion, the Montenegrin Bibliography comprises entries relating to Montenegro and its people.
Standards and arrangement of bibliographic records, with corresponding aids o Monographs are catalogued according to the international ISBD(M) standard o For serials ISBD(S) standard is used o The entries in the third volume (articles) are catalogued in compliance with the then valid rules applied for the analytical cataloguing of serials. o All the material (except Vol. IV) is catalogued and classified according to the UDC system. o Each book includes indexes of authors, translators, editors, subjects, identified initials, codes and pseudonyms, and lists of references and resources.
Procedures of digitization o The whole process of digitization was organized into several phases: o scanning and OCR o automatic text processing - parsing of text o making of database o developing of tools for search and view o developing of tools for editing
Forms of presentation Two presentation forms: o On line and DVD presentation o The DVD version offers the possibility of navigation by selection among indexes and lists of initial letters given for each index.
Display and Search Display characteristics: o uniformity o ease of use o easy availability o organization

Conclusion o The electronic version of national bibliography will permit new kinds of use and more sophisticated types of analysis by end-users o Digitization of NB may allow librarians to manage collections and provide services more effectively o To be useful for collection development, DNB has to offer subject access and analysis of different aspects of publications o The electronic version of national bibliography allows easier and faster selection of materials for digitization of national cultural heritage
