The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo s Street Banner Contest is a civic beautification initiative that strives to engage community members, showcase the beauty of the region, as well as highlight local artists. This year s theme is Summer Sports, featured in the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games. Each year the Municipality (in partnership with the Fort McMurray Historical Society) publishes a Heritage Calendar with photos from our local history. Malanka New Year Dinner and Dance When: Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 6 pm 12 am Where: Sawridge Hotel The Fort McMurray Avrora Ukrainian Dance Society is holding its annual Malanka New Year dinner and dance at the Sawridge Hotel, Sat. Jan. 17, 2015. Come enjoy the lively and colorful dancing of the young Ukrainian dancers. There s a fabulous supper including homemade perogies, cabbage rolls and other Ukrainian favorites. Workshop I When: Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 3 pm to 4 pm Family Workshop introducing Alice in Wonderland! Participants will learn ballet positions and skills, as well as create an excerpt from Alberta Ballet s production of the well-loved story Alice in Wonderland. No experience required. Website: http://fmchinese.ca/ Suitcases Needed Keyano Theatre Company is presenting Cabaret this February and in order to create the fabulous set, designed by Roger Schultz, there is a need for a couple hundred old suitcases (1920 s ish), old steamer trunks and a few working luggage carts.
