Sanitation SANKOFA SANITATION BY ACHIEBOLD ACHEAMPONG Why should we not learn from the past now? Why should we not go for their good values? Why should we keep doing the wrong things? Why should we destroy ourselves? We create mess And leave it to clean itself. We pollute our place, By turning rivers, beaches and gutters Into refuse dumps and toilets We turn our bodies and spaces Into playgrounds for germs. Why should we not learn from the past now? They ate good foods. They kept their mouth clean. They kept their nails short and neat. They used clean hands to eat. They knew what it meant to prevent disease. Why should we not learn from the past now? We fight disease with bad drugs. Diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid are swallowing us. We dream of a better nation Without first thinking of sanitation. Why should we not? Why should we not learn from the past Now? 10

Board Game Rules GAME SET-UP: Place the board in the centre of the playing area. Each player chooses a colour counter and places it at the start tile. Numbered square cards can be made for this game by using paper and pencil. The paper is cut into 12 even squares and numbers are pencilled onto the squares. Four squares have number 1 four squares have number 2 and four squares have number 3. Each player shuffles the numbered square cards and picks a square to determine how many spaces to move. The square card is then put back into the card deck to be shuffled and picked again. *If you have dice each player throws a die to determine how many spaces to move. GAME PLAY: Beginning with the player who first draws a square with the highest number and moving in a clockwise direction, that player selects a numbered square card from the pile of twelve. Remember to shuffle before you pick. The player then moves the counter the number of spaces indicated on the square. As the player lands on a space on the board the player reads what is on the space. When you land on a torn space you lose the next turn. When you land on push out you move to the red space which is the next space. When you land on good poop you pick a second number and move again. When you land on poop stains you lose the next turn. When you land on the first pipe you are flushed away or you lose 2 next turns. When you land on the burst pipe you lose the next turn. When you land on a space that say go back you go back the number of spaces it says. When you land on short cut you go to the space the yellow arrow is pointing to. When you land on you re sick you lose the 3 next turns. Your goal is to be the first person to the finish or to land on running toilet. Remember you should always look for a proper toilet to poop. 15

Do Not Rub it on Your Knicker By DK Osei-Yaw When you ring-ring After you wee-wee, And it flip-flips Unto your clean skin, Do not rub it on your Knicker You might be in a hurry to go- I know; Especially if you dialled your zip code, Right at the side of the road- yet: Do not rub it on your Knicker. May be you should give it a check- Did you not already get it wet? When that friend of yours yelled, And you went right ahead and left? Do not do dirt on your Knicker. Did you not see the other day? A pair of shorts wrecked with ugly stains, Mimicked and mocked a poor kid When it earned the nickname The African Map? Do not rub it on your Knicker. Do not rub it on your Knicker. Shake hands with a bar of soap; Let the sink be your witness, You will be cleansed from all sickness. *Zip Code means Zipper *Knicker means Pants 23
