The Composer Deborah aker Monday (ASCA) is an active string music educator in the aardinning Logan City tah orchestra program. She received her.m.e. Magna Cum Laude rom lorida State niversity ith an emphasis in string education. She as aarded an academic elloship to attend the niversity o Alabama here she received her M.M. in Composition. She continued her studies at Louisiana State niversity here she received the Chancellor s Aard to participate ith the LS Symphony Orchestra under the direction o ames Yestadt. She has studied theory and composition ith Harold Schiman ohn oda rederic Goossen aul Hedell and Dinos Constantinides. Ms. Monday continued to be an active bass perormer hen she moved to tah. Ater completing the courseork and passing the ritten and oral portions o the doctoral exams she as hired to teach in the Logan City School District as a lo string specialist. During her tenure ith Logan she has pursued her interest in composition and arranging or educational strings. Many o her published orks have been honored as.w. epper Editor s Choice selections. Ms. Monday has presented at numerous state music conerences throughout the nited States as ell as several national ASTA conerences The Midest Clinic and the prestigious Ohio State String Teacher Workshop. She is active as a guest conductor and adjudicator and has received aards and commissions or her ork. Her studies in composition and experience in string teaching combine to make her one o the leading contributors to the repertoire or young string players. This has been a rearding part o her career hile she and her husband ill have raised our amazing children. The Composition My association ith Lisa Tiano and arker Middle School Orchestra began ith a Skype session. Ms. Tiano s students ere preparing my arrangement o upiter and requested a video call ith me to complete the inal touches or their estival perormance. The session as a huge success or Tiano s orchestra and sparked a ne riendship beteen Lisa and me. The subject o a commission as discussed and then presented or approval by the Chelmsord (Massachussetts) School District. Highly regarded in the community and school system her request to commission me to compose an original ork or her middle school orchestra as quickly set into motion! And hat an honor or me to be asked. The guidelines set by Lisa Tiano included a speciic request: there had to be a cello solo so that a dedicated cellist in the orchestra could have a special opportunity in the perormance. She also anted the piece to symbolize the bitterseet emotions elt at the end o the school year hen th graders are promoted to high school ater experiencing three transormative middle school years. With saying areell to each other and moving on the music as ritten to represent eelings o joy and accomplishment but ith a tinge o sadness. Hoever the ultimate emotion in the music represents the personality o Lisa Tiano an incredible educator ho sees the best in all circumstances. And ithout question the title o this commission became ubilation! The music los rom being noble nostalgic relective energetic to explosive ith dance-like qualities at the end.
