All other rights reserved. About MBSI The Musical Box Society International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enjoyment, study and preservation of all automatic musical instruments. It is chartered by the New York State Education Department. From its modest beginning in 1949, MBSI now numbers over a thousand members with representation in each of the 50 states and nineteen other countries. Members receive the bimonthly scholarly journal Mechanical Music, covering educational articles, relevant events, activities, news, information, and advertisements, and the biennial Directory of Members, Museums, and Dealers. Regional chapters located in the U.S. and Japan enable members to visit collections where they swap ideas, information, and sometimes instruments. The only requirements for membership are an interest in automatic musical instruments and the desire to share information about them. Join today at: www.mbsi.org Word Search Words explained AMPICO (American Piano Company) and Duo Art (Aeolian Company) were two excellent examples of a special player Piano which could play so well it is said they could reproduce the artist. Music Boxes played music from a pinned Cylinder, punched Disc or punched Cuff (truncated cone). Music boxes were manufactured or distributed by Jacot, Kalliope, Mermod Freres, Mira, Otto, Paillard, Polyphon and Regina. Wonderful nickelodeons, coin pianos and other instruments were manufactured by Mills Novelty Company, JP Seeburg and Wurlitzer. Phonographs (record players) were invented by Thomas Edison and manufactured by Edison, Victor (Victrola) and many others. 2

Dots & Boxes Game HOW TO PLAY: Starting with an empty grid of dots, players take turns, adding a single horizontal or vertical line between two unjoined adjacent dots. A player who completes the fourth side of a 1 1 box earns one point and takes another turn. (The points are typically recorded by placing in the box an identifying mark of the player, such as an initial). The game ends when no more lines can be placed. The winner of the game is the player with the most points................................................................ 6
