pulished y ARDROSS HOUSE 8 Fairvie Way, Stafford ST17 0AX and Percussion! - percussion oin recorders and violins in the school assemly Kerry Milan a selection of favourites, old and ne, ith specially ritten parts to involve eginners from the very first term
Preface to the 199 edition This set of percussion parts, and the accompanying cassette tape to "String Hosanna", have een specially planned for ease of use y non-specialist music teachers The parts themselves make musical sense, they have shape and variety, and aove all they should prove fun to perform At first glance, looking at a "score" ith all the parts set out one eneath the other can e intimidating; ut later you should soon see a fairly simple pattern emerging In fact, on many occasions individual parts have their on "ostinato" - a little pattern hich is repeated over and over These ostinato patterns have een highlighted to help you see ho the music is assemled These are the asic ingredients of the piece, and the score is the recipe shoing hen to add them! Lord of the Dance opposite has a castanet or claves to-ar rhythm for the verse, and then for the chorus another to-ar pattern ith tamourine and cymal added When first listening to the tape and score reading, start y ust folloing one part or rhythm, then focus on another and gradually uild up an image of ho the various elements fit together Some songs have very simple accompaniments, ust a single instrument ith a single ostinato pattern Other pieces require to alternating instruments, and finally come those that use cominations of instruments and different ostinati The instrumentation is as varied as possile, ranging from one appearance for the coell and guiro up to eight or nine for drums, triangle and cymals For the tuned percussion parts, suggestions are made; ut oviously use hat is to hand These parts range from using a single note, or for to people ith to notes each, up to a fe (not too demanding) melodic flourishes They are listed elo There is a separate ook availale hich contains all the violin parts, and also the melody line for pieces one to sixteen In this percussion score, the melody line is again included for pieces one to sixteen, and then for the later copyright orks, the violin part instead A full index appears on the ack cover, hich also indicates a selection of pulications in hich all the songs appear, and in the same key This selection has een carefully made so as not to infringe other people's copyright; ut if this has happened inadvertently credit ill e given in any further printing and the appropriate licences paid All the violin and percussion parts are my on, as are all the performances on the accompanying cassette tape There are no restrictions on their non-commercial use ithin schools; and schools should feel free to photocopy individual pages of this percussion ook and then highlight children's on lines as necessary Kerry Milan Octoer 199 tuned percussion requirements: Jesus' Hands are Kind Hands F G and A B Daisies are our Silver A B and C' D' For the Beauty of the Earth B C and D' E' All Creatures of our God and King D A D' Give Me Oil in my Lamp D E F A Morning has Broken D' Tell Me the Stories of Jesus D E F The Sun that Shines across the Sea D E F G A B C' D' Preface to the 00 edition A House is a House for Me D E F G A B Thank You for my Friends E F and C G C' Who put the Colours in the Raino?
