UNIFEST 2014-2015 DR. B.R. AMBEDKAR UNIVERSITY, AGRA. 01. MUSIC RULES AND REGULATIONS 011. Classical Vocal Solo: (Hindustani / Karnatic) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance- 10 min. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. Maximum number of accompanists is two. 4. Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic style. 5. Cinema songs are not allowed under this item. 6. Sufficient thought and care must be exercised in the choice of Raga and Composition. 7. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression. 012. Classical Instrumental Solo: (Percussion - Taal Vadya) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance- 10 min. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. Maximum number of accompanists is two. 4. Participants must bring their own instruments. 5. Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic style. 6. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression. 013. Classical Instrumental Solo: (Non - Percussion - Swar Vadya) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance- 10 min. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. Maximum number of accompanists is two. 4. Participants must bring their own instruments. Casio not allowed. 5. Instruments of western origin adapted to the India Raga system are allowed. 6. Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic style. 7. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Swara, Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression.

5 014. Light Vocal (Indian) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two. 4. Duration of the song shall be between 3 minutes. 5. Only non-film songs/ geet/ ghazal/ bhajan/ shabad and abhangas can be presented. 6. Judgment will be made on the qualities like Swara, Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression. 015. Folk Singing (Solo): 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 2. Maximum number of accompanists is 2. 3. Item can be presented in any folk style. 4. Cinema songs are not allowed, maximum time will be of 5 minutes. while the minimum time will be of 3 minutes. 5. Time for stage/instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes. 016. Western Vocal (Solo) : 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two. 4. Duration of the song shall be between 3 to 5 minutes. 5. Language of the song shall only be English. 6. Judgment will be made on the qualities like Composition Rhythm, Coordination 02. DANCE and General Impression. 021. Folk / Tribal Dance 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 2. The number of accompanists inculding background Singers permissible is five. 3. The dance can be either primitive or a folk dance ( Indian Style) but not a classical one. 4. Duration of dance should not be more than 6 minutes. 5. Three copies of a brief note giving the theme and the text of song if any, is to be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration.

6 6. The participating team will be responsible for removal of their sets / properties etc. immediately after the completion of their performance. 7. Judgment will be based on the basis of Rhythm, Formation, Expression, Costumes, Make-up, Sets and Overall Effect. 8. Time for sets/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 022. Classical Dance (Indian) 1. Each Institution can send only one entry. 2. The Classical dance can be from any of the approved schools of dance such as Kathak, Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohinittam, Odissi etc. 3. Participant will be allowed up to 15 minutes including time for preparation. 4. Maximum three accompanists are permissible. 5. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taal, Technique, Rhythm, Abhinaya or Expression, Costumes, Footwork and General Impression etc. 6. Three copies of a brief note on the description of dance story involved in it, if any, and of the accompanying song, with its meaning in Hindi or English must be submitted at the time of registration. 03. LITERARY EVENTS : 031. Quiz 1. Each Institution can send a team of three persons. 2. There will be a written preliminary round of one hour duration and best 6 participants will be last selected for the final. 3. Finals will be oral with audio-visual questions. 4. The specific rules regarding evaluation procedure, time to reply a particular answer and the type of round will be given before the actual start of the competition. 032. Debate (Hindi): Gangadhar Shastri AND 033. Debate (English): Pannalal Common Rules for the events to be conducted separately 1. Each Institution will be represented by the two debaters; one will speak FOR, while another will speak AGAINST the motion. 2. Medium of expression will be Hindi or English as applicable. 3. Each debater will be allowed to speak for maximum five minutes.

Topic of English Debate: In the opinion of the house The media is playing a negative role in the country. 034. Elocution: Gandhi 1. Each Institution will be represented by one speaker. 2. Medium of expression will be Hindi or English. 3. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for maximum five minutes. 4. Topic of Elocution : Hkkjr dk fopkj 035. Seminar: Gandhi Idea of India 2. Medium of expression will be Hindi or English. 3. In the 1 st round each speaker will be allowed to speak for maximum 3 minutes, in the 2 nd round-2 minutes, 3rd round-1 minute. 4. Topic of the Seminar : Lons'kh cuke os'ohdj.k Or Swadeshi Versus Globalisation 036. Essay Competition : Seth Achal Singh 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 2. Medium of expression will be Hindi or English. 3. Topic of Essay will be announced at the time of competition. 4. Maximum time allotted for Essay writing: 2 hrs. 037. Poetry recitation: Nazir Akbarabadi 1. Each Institution shall send one participant. 2. Medium of poetry recitation shall be Hindi. 3. Maximum time allowed to each participant shall be five minutes while minimum - four minutes. 4. The participants shall recite poetry of any author of own choice. 04. THEATRE : 041. Mono Acting: 1. Only one entry per Institution will be entertained.

8 2. The participants shall bring their own stage property, make up material etc. Light & general property such as ordinary furniture may be provided on prior information. 3. Judgment will most likely be based on the qualities like Idea, Creativity of presentation, Acting Skills, Use of make-up, music and General Impression. 4. Duration of performance shall be maximum of 5 minutes. 5. The Item may be in Hindi only. Participants are advised to choose a dramatic or other literary piece for enactment. 042. Mimicry : 1. Each student artist shall be given 5 minutes. 2. Participants may mimic sound of machines and speeches of wellknown persons etc. including film personalities. 3. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 4. Marking will be based on: i) Skill imitating. ii) Variety of sound and voices imitation. iii) Presentation. 05. FINE ARTS : 051. On the Spot Painting : 2. Item will be conducted on the spot and participants have to paint on the subject given by the incharge(s) of the competition. 3. Duration will not be more than 2 hours. 4. Size of the painting will be half imperial size drawing paper i.e. 22 inches X 15 inches. 5. Painting can be done in oil, water, poster or pastel colours. 6. Candidates shall bring their own material like brushes, paints etc. Only the paper/ sheet will be provided by the Organizers. 052. Collage : 2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given topic/subject.

9 3. Duration will not be more than 2 hours. 4. Participants shall bring their own scissors, pasting and other material required for the contest. 5. The University will provide the drawing paper of the size 22" X 15" Note : The participants are required to communicate the given subject/idea by using different media, Collage is neither a painting nor a cutting-pasting composition. 053. Poster Making : 2. Item will be conducted on the spot and the participants have to make poster on the subject / topic / theme given by the In- charge of the competition. 3. Duration will not be more than 2 hours. 4. Participants shall bring their own material. Only the Drawing paper/sheet 22"x15" will be provided by the organizers. 054. Cartooning : 2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject/idea. 3. Duration will not be more than 1.30 hours. 4. Participants shall bring their own material. Only the Drawing paper of quarter imperial size will be provided by the University. 055. Rangoli : 1. This art is known differently in various regions such as Mandna, Alpana, Alekhan, Kolam, Rangoli, etc. For this the medium and form for expression can be free hand, pictorial and descriptive. 2. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. 3. Participants shall bring their own material. 4. Only one medium shall be used - Poster Colours or Flower Petals or Saw - dust or Pulses or Rice etc. without pasting. 5. The Participants shall have to prepare a Rangoli within the space provided by the organizers (3x3 sq.ft.) 6. Duration will not be more than 2 hours.

10 056. Clay Modelling: 2. Item will be conducted on the spot. 3. Duration will not be more than 2 hours. 4. Topics/ size and other specific rules shall be announced on the spot. 5. Clay shall be provided by the organizers. 057. Spot Photography : 1. An Institution can send one participant. 2. The participant has to bring his/her own digital camera of not more than 12 mega pixels. 3. The digital camera should have a memory card which will he formatted by the judges before the commencement of the contest. 4. The time limit will he 2 hours. 5. The participant has to capture 5 photographs on the theme announced on the spot by the judges. 6. No mixing, matching or morphing of photographs will he permitted. 7. Software such as Photoshop etc. for enhancing images not permitted. 8. The organizers will have all rights for the use fo these picture as and when they deem fit. 9. Digital images are evaluated on the basis of (I) Impact, (II) Composition (III) Technical quality and (IV) Suitablity for the specific theme. 10. The additional instructions will he announced on the spot. 058. Installation : 1. Install or creat an atmosphere related with the subject or title of the installation. 2. The size of the installation should be 5' x 5' x 5' maximum 3. Participants can use all the material which they use in other art composition like cartooning, painting, rangoli, poster, collage and clay modeling. 4. Participants can use waste materials also which is available in the surroundings or can take any materials from outside also.

11 5. Participants are not allowed to use any already composed images or forms available in the market. They should compose or create their own image with the raw material. 6. Each Institution will be represented by one participants only IMPORTANT : The participants are requested to study the rules and regulations for the various events given above. The decision of the Judges appointed for different events shall be final and binding upon all. The protest, if any, should be lodged with the Convener of the competition within one hour of the end of the competition. No protest shall be entertained on matters regarding judgement. Protests can be entertained by the Jury of Appeal on matters relating to violation of rules or improper conduct of the contest. ************
