YELLO BASHMENT SOCA 2017 COMPETITION RULES In The following Rules and any amendments hereto (except as otherwise expressly provided or unless the context requires) the singular includes the plural and vice versa, the masculine includes the feminine and vice versa 1. THE NAME OF THE COMPETITION 2. ELIGIBILITY a. The name of the competition shall be the Bashment Soca Competition which comprises of three (3) stages/phases; (1) the Semifinals (Entrant judging and selection of twelve (12) semifinalists) stage, (2) the Public Voting (selection of six finalists and a Wild card) stage and (3) the Finals (Live Show and Competition of eight (8) performers to select one winner) stage. b. The Bashment Soca Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) is organized and administered by 4D Entertainment Inc. (4D Ent.) a. This competition is opened to Legal Residents and Citizens of Barbados only. b. Each artiste who enters the Competition must be 18 years or older at the date of Registration indicated in 3 (a) c. All lyrics of any song entered into the competition, must be within the bounds of good taste and suitable to be played on the National/Public radio stations. 3. REGISTRATION a. An artiste (hereinafter referred to as artiste ) must register for participation in the 2017 Bashment Soca Competition by completing the attached, 4D Ent. approved Registration Form in duplicate. Registration Forms shall be accompanied by two (2) face-only, ping pong photographs of the artiste/s (against a plain white background, in printed format) and shall reach the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) no later than 4.30 p.m. on Friday June 9 th, 2017. b. An artiste may also be registered by his duly appointed representative, provided that the artiste complies with all the other requirements set out at 3 (a) above. c. An artiste may register as (i) an individual artiste, or (ii) as part of a group, but not as both, for the Bashment Soca competition. d. The duplicate of the Registration Form received will be stamped and signed immediately on receipt, indicating the date and time that the Registration Form was received by the CBC and the duplicate shall be returned to the artiste or his authorized representative. The Original copy of the Registration Form will be stamped and signed and retained by the CBC as proof of registration for the competition. e. Artistes whose Registration Forms have not been received by the CBC by the deadline indicated at 3 (a) above shall not be eligible for participation at the Selection stage of the Competition f. The song performed in the Competition must be original, must not have been entered in any previous organized competitions in Barbados nor in the Sweet Soca or Party Monarch competitions for 2017 or before, nor have been previously released prior to 2017. g. The penalty for violation of Rule 3(e) shall be disqualification of the song from the competition h. An Artiste or Group may enter only one song, per Artiste or Group, into the selection process for the competition. i. A NON-returnable MP3, (CD, Memory Stick or any other appropriate physical form of media) copy of the recording of the song to be entered into the selection process for the competition shall be submitted along with the Registration Form to CBC no later than 4.30 p.m. on Friday June 9 th, 2017. (No e-mails of/with songs shall be accepted). 2

j. Only the one song, to be judged, must be recorded on the media submitted for the competition. NB/ all media submitted for the purpose of the competition will be retained by 4D Ent, i.e. -(NON-returnable) 4. ADJUDICATION a. A panel of judges shall be selected by 4D Entertainment Inc., for the adjudication of all stages of the Competition. b. 4D Ent. Shall determine the composition of the panel of judges and shall appoint a member of the panel to the Chief Judge c. The Competition shall be judged in three (3) stages Stage1: Semifinalists Selections, Stage 2: Public Voting and Stage3: Finals. d. At all stages of the competition, the judges decision is the final decision. 5. STIPULATIONS 6. THE BANDS a. If the song performed at the Finals contains lyrics other than those previously approved by 4D Ent., the artiste may be disqualified from the competition, if it is shown that the song is not in good taste or may be in breach of any relevant law. The lyrics of the song submitted must be suitable for playing on the public radio stations/television and airways. b. Whenever 4D Ent. has informed an artiste in writing that his lyrics in full or in part are defamatory or are deemed not to be within the bounds of good taste and should be replaced with suitable lyrics according to the rules of the competition, and the artiste wilfully performs the offending lyrics or a variation that is substantially similar during any judging stage of the competition, then the artiste may be banned from 4D Ent. produced competitions for a period not in excess of five (5) years c. At the Finals, an artiste shall be held accountable for the actions of those individuals whom he brings on stage during the competition, including supporting acts for his performance d. If, during the Finals, an artiste or any of his supporting acts makes any gesture or action that exceeds the bounds of good taste, the song may be disqualified from the Competition a. Stems may be utilized at the Finals stage. 7. THE SELECTIONS STAGE a. Judging at the Selections stage will take place in two (2) phases, with the judging panel making the initial selections of artistes from the previously submitted, MP3, NON-Returnable Recordings, using the following criteria: Rhythm and Beat - a maximum of 40 points Lyrics - a maximum of 20 points Arrangements - a maximum of 20 points Vocal Performance - a maximum of 20 points b. A maximum of twelve (12) artistes will be selected to compete, for the 1 st phase of the Selections stage of the Competition. c. The twelve (12) songs chosen shall be promoted via radio and social media and a panel of judges in association with the voting public shall determine the first six (6) finalists to go forward to the Finals stage of the competition i.e. Six (6) to be chosen from the twelve (12) selected. Thereafter one (1) additional artiste (the Wildcard) shall be chosen, by public vote only, from the remaining six (6) who were not chosen to qualify for the finals. That artiste will be the seventh (7) to go forward to the Finals. 3

8. THE FINALS a. The artistes at the Final stage of the competition (hereinafter referred to as the Finalists ) shall comprise the artistes, publicly announced to compete at the Final Stage after the completion of the entire Selections stage for the seven (7) Finalists and the defending Monarch from the 2016 competition. b. The Finalists and the Defending Monarch or their duly appointed representatives shall assemble at the CBC s Headquarters, The Pine, St. Michael on the date and time indicated by 4D Ent. to participate in a draw to determine the position in which they will appear at the Finals stage c. The Finalists or their duly appointed representatives shall present to 4D Ent. s designated officer, on a date and time indicated by 4D Ent., two (2) printed, copies of the lyrics to be vetted by 4D Ent. s and one (1) full set of musical scores for the song which they will perform at the Finals stage. d. Upon receipt of the lyrics and musical scores of the song to be performed at the Final, 4D Ent. shall present each Finalist with an unsigned performance contract to perform at the Finals. The Finalists shall sign and return the contracts to the designated 4D Ent. officer as required within forty-eight (48) hours of receipt. A Finalist shall not be allowed to compete if he fails to return the signed contract to the designated 4D Ent. officer as required e. 4D Ent. will vet each of the seven (8) songs submitted and return those with lyrics considered to be defamatory or beyond the bounds of good taste to Finalists within forty-eight (48) hours f. Where lyrics are considered defamatory or beyond the bounds of good taste, the relevant Finalist shall be required to re-submit amended lyrics within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt. Until this process is completed, the Finalist may not be allowed to participate in rehearsals for the Finals nor may the performance contract be executed by 4D Ent. g. The content of the accompanying presentation will be at the discretion of the artiste. At the Final stage of the Competition, however such artiste shall be limited to ten (10) supporting persons as part of his presentation, excluding the band augmentation of a maximum of six (6) persons including musicians and back-up vocals, and four (4) production/technical persons. h. Should an artiste fail to observe Rule 8(h) a designated 4D Ent., officer shall inform the Chief Judge of the breach immediately after his performance has ended i. The artiste shall appear and perform in the correct position as drawn at the CBC s Headquarters. An artiste failing to comply with this rule shall perform in the position determined by 4D Ent. j. In the Final stage of the Competition, the points system to be used by the panel for judging will be as follows: Rhythm and Beat - a maximum of 30 points Lyrics - a maximum of 20 points Vocal Performance - a maximum of 20 points Crowd Response - a maximum of 20 points Presentation - a maximum of 10 points k. The Crowd response shall be judged using a noise meter which will be recorded twice, once during the performance and at the end of the performance l. At the Final stage of the Competition, artistes who are sponsored shall ensure that their sponsors products or services do not clash with those of the sponsors of the Competition. Each artiste shall further ensure that he bears no signage on his person or on stage that refers to products or services which compete with those of the Competition s sponsors m. Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) years shall not be allowed to accompany an artiste backstage nor onstage at the Finals of the Competition. n. All Artistes or accompanying acts appearing on the Finals Stage of the competition, as part of the act, must display behaviour, that is within the bounds of good taste, and suitable for viewing by the general public. NO LEWD Behaviour or acts will be nor are acceptable, for the competition. 4

9. GENERAL 10. PROMOTION a. 4d Ent. Reserves the right to choose the venue for the staging of the Finals of the Competition b. Artistes shall report to 4D Ent. Stage Manager at the venue selected by 4D Ent. for the staging of the Finals no later than one (1) hour before the scheduled start time of the event c. Each performance at the Finals stages of the Competition shall not exceed five (5) minutes duration and will be timed by the official time-keeper from the commencement of the first musical note played by the band or the first vocal note performed by the artiste or the back-up vocalists; and end at the last musical note played by the band or the last vocal note performed by the artiste or the back-up vocalists d. Failure by any artiste to comply with the reasonable instructions of the designated 4D Ent. officer may result in his disqualification from the Competition e. Each artiste and accompanying supporting performance act cast, or augmenting musician participating in the Finals of the Competition shall be issued with an appropriate pass by 4D Ent. to facilitate entry to the event and to the backstage area. Artistes not displaying the correct passes shall not be allowed access backstage f. All artistes performing in the Final of the Bashment Soca Competition, and not being adjudged the competition Winner shall receive a performance fee of Two thousand, Five hundred dollars (BDS$2,500.00), of these remaining finalists from the competition, if any comprise of a group of persons, the performance fee for that group, shall be divided in equal parts to be paid to all names listed on the competition registration form. g. The Reserve shall receive a reserve-appearance fee of Five hundred Dollars (BD$500.00). h. The overall winner of the competition shall receive the grand prize. No other prizes will be issued. a. The artiste agrees that should he/she be selected at the semifinals stage and then be chosen as a Finalist in the Competition, 4D Ent. shall be entitled to use his performance or part thereof or his image or likeness in the promotion of the Competition generally and in subsequent years 11. WINNER OBLIGATIONS a. At the time of winning, the prize becomes the immediate responsibility of the winner in the Winner Takes All Competition Finals and as such all winnings must be collected within one two (1 2) weeks of the official stage prize presentation. The winner or his/her representative shall be duly notified of the place and time and format for collection of the prize. b. Any Prizes given and collected, by the winner, on the night of the Finals of the Competition are the only prizes to be given at that time (there are no replacements) and are the sole property of the winner. The Winner is expected to allow himself to be photographed at the time of the handing over of any and all the winners prizes. c. The winner at the time of winning the Bashment Soca Competition is obligated to enter into suitable negotiations with the Title Sponsor of the Competition, regarding the production of a company jingle for said Title Sponsor and the use of his image and/or likeness in the promotion of their brand d. The Winner will be expected to perform at the Soca on de Hill Event on Sunday July 23 rd, 2017 and at the Soca Royale Event at Bushy Park on Sunday July 30 th, 2017, according to the specific terms and conditions of each separate event. 5

These items, along with a working, NON-RETURNABLE form of media, containing the MP3 version of the song for the competition, must all be submitted together, to the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) no later than 4.30 pm, on Friday, June 9 th, 2017.
