The South Georgia Film Festival is dedicated to celebrating the art and industry of filmmaking across the Southeast. Our mission is to foster the community of filmmakers and film professionals with a deeper understanding of the impact that film has on communities through screenings, industry panels and educational opportunities. The three day event included 16 events (screenings / panels / social), with 35 films, at partner locations Holiday Inn & Conference Center, Turner Center for the Arts, and the VSU Student Union Theater. The 2018 South Georgia Film Festival had an attendance of over 2000 with filmmakers coming from California, Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee. We received submissions from around the world and news coverage of over 55 million media impressions, including in the USA Today State to State section. The South Georgia Film Festival was mentioned in the USA Today because of his film. Filmgoers attended the opening night screening of BIRTHDAY CAKE and MATHEW S GIFT at the Turner Center for the Arts. Filmmakers participated in conversation with those in attendance and everyone enjoyed snacks and beverages.
The South Georgia Film Festival invited filmmakers from across the region to host panels, screen their work, and judge films in competition. Valdosta State University provided the the amazing facilities all weekend long. Derek was the runner-up in the High School category, while Kat won for High School, Best Direction and as Best in Fest. Anyone can be a part of this year s event by buying a pass. Passes will be discounted for presell beginning Oct. 11 during the Georgia Production Partnership South Regional meeting. The Holiday Inn, which hosted our after-party and filmmakers, distributed copies too. One of last year s more successful events was the Networking Event in the newly renovated production studio of the Valdosta State University Mass Media building. Festival participants, local businesses and returning alumni networked and discussed future projects.
