Audition Pack If you re offered a trip do you take it? Hello Everyone! Thank for taking an interest in being a part of Moreton Bay Theatre Group s production of X-Stacy by Margery Forde in 2019. This Audition Pack will give you all the information you need to audition for this show. ROUND ONE The first round of auditions will be held on Saturday, 23 February 2019. This day will be broken into three sessions that applicants will be able to choose from: 1) Morning Session 9:00 am 12:00 pm 2) Afternoon Session 12:00 pm 3:00 pm 3) Evening Session 3:00 pm 6:00 pm Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session starting, to check in. For the first hour of each session, applicants will be required to participate in various ensemble building exercises to demonstrate an ability to work as part of a group. Once the group component is completed, the audition panel will call each performer in separately, where you will be required to present two monologues (as specified further in the pack). After private sessions have been completed, applicants are free to leave. There may be some instances where an applicant might be asked to read a different character monologue. If this is the case, you will be provided a copy of this monologue and asked to remain until the end of the session to present it. You will not be required to memorise this piece. You will be notified two hours after your session whether you will be required for Round 2. ROUND TWO The second round of auditions, otherwise known as call-backs, will take place on Sunday, 24 February 2019. This session will commence at 1:00 pm and go until 5:00 pm. Please arrive 15 minutes before the call-backs are to commence. The day will involve more group exercises as well as scene work from the play. Scenes will be broken up into groups based on the characters you are auditioning for or have been asked to audition for. Casting will be complete after this session and successful applicants will be notified either that evening or the following morning. MONOLOGUES All audition requirements are listed on the pages that follow this document. We encourage everyone to audition for this show as it s a great piece of Australian theatre based in Brisbane, with a very intense and challenging storyline. We look forward to meeting you and hope it will be a fun day for all. Thanks Elodie Boal Director

BEN: (Stacy s Brother. Male. Playing Age: Early-Mid 20s) When Stacy got sick that night, I brought her back to her own room. I didn t wake Mum. I knew she wouldn t have been able to handle it, seeing Stacy like that. There was spew on the sheets. In her hair. I just sat with her, watching her, holding her hand. Willing her to get better. I even invited God to help, but he must have been busy that day. (Brief pause.) About five o clock in the morning I woke Mum. We called an ambulance and got her to hospital. Then we just waited. Finally they said we could see her. She was hooked up to all these machines and tubes and crap. She didn t look like Stace anymore. But she was alive, and she seemed to be hanging in there, you know? And for a while we thought she might make it. But then they told us no. She wouldn t. Her brain s totally fucked. Stacy s brain dead and she s going to die. A pause. Then Mum had to decide whether she was going to be cut up and her organs donated to whatever. It s the old supply and demand see. A pause. I should have got help straight away. I should have called the ambulance. But I was shit scared. She s done all this stuff, see, and I thought they d call the cops

ANNE: (Stacy s Mother. Female. Playing Age Late 30s-Late 40s) I just can t do this anymore. I can t. Brief pause. No. She s dead. That s it. She s gone. There are times when it just catches me by surprise, you know? It s like someone has their fist pressing here. Pressing really hard. Pressing so hard I can barely breathe. Paul: Why don t we just pray gently and? Pray to who? All he s ever done is take everything I ever cared about away from me. A pause. Why? There s nothing you can say that will help. Not unless you can make me understand why she went and why I m losing my son. (Brief pause.) I can t. ** Paul s line will be read by audition panel.

FERGUS: (Ben s Friend and Cool DJ. Male. Playing Age: Early-Mid 20s) How was I to know she was going to screw up? Some can handle it, some can t. You know that. Anyway, you gave her stuff. (To Jenna) So did you. Were you forcing it on her? (To Ben) Were you? No fucking way. It s supply and demand. People make their own choices. I didn t force it on her. I didn t force anything on her. I know you think she was all the angels and saints rolled into one, but let me tell you, she wasn t. She was she was the one who screwed up, not me. Not me. How was I supposed to know she was going to fucking die? (Confronting Jenna) You just fucked yourself, babe. Let s see how long you last in the real world. (Brief pause.) Fuck this! Fuck this! Fuck youse. Do what you fucking want. I m out of here. Fergus exits.

ZOE: (Border at Ben s House and Aspiring DJ. Female. Playing Age: Early-Mid 20s) Are you kidding? For the music, man. The music s fully excellent. That s what it s all about. And you can go there and you feel totally safe. Not like some of the nightclubs around the place. The music s beyond crap, and you ve got these rednecks, pissed out of their brains, trying to feel you up. They think they re such heroes, but they wouldn t be able to get a date off a calendar most of them. (Brief pause.) Hey, guess what? Ben s organised a gig for me tonight at the Crystal. (Brief pause.) Yeah. It s gonna go off, man. That place is gonna go off.

JENNA: (Stacy s Friend, Fergus Girlfriend. Female. Playing Age: Late Teens-Early 20s) Stacy looked bad. She s shivering but she s really sweating, you know? And he starts to panic. He had this important gig to go to and he was running late. So he says call Ben. Tell him you ll bring Stacy to the club. And make sure you don t mention me. What he doesn t know won t hurt him. (A pause.) So we put her in the van and brought her to the Crystal. It was pretty crowded, but after a while we saw you. (A pause.) And Fergus goes don t tell Ben you were with me, Stace. He wouldn t like it. Then he looks at me and says are you staying with her or coming with me? So I said there s Ben, Stace. He ll look after you. Go to Ben. (A brief pause.) As we left, she was walking towards you She was off her face.

STACY: (Ben s Sister, Anne s Daughter. Female. Playing Age: Late Teens-Early 20s) How would you know? You don t know her. You ve never taken the time to get to know her I m the loser junkie dope fiend. That s who you think I am It is. It is. Beat. Oh, fuck off, for Christ s sake. You heard. Anne: Don t you ever speak to me like that again or I ll Or you ll what? Crucify me? Fuck off! Come on then, Mum. Stacy spreads her arms. Bang, bang, bang, bang! Anne moves towards Stacy. No! You just fucking stay away from me. Don t you fucking come near me. Don t fucking talk to me. I don t need this now. I don t want to listen to any more of your fucking crap (A pause.) Shit! No wonder Dad hit the piss. No wonder he fucked off. Nag, nag, fucking nag, nag, nag. I don t know how he put up with it for so long. Put up with you. Beat. I m going Hey, Ben. You can have old Boofhead. I m bequeathing him to you Give the rest of my stuff to St. Vinnies. Or burn it. Stacy exits. ** Anne s line will be read by audition panel.

PAUL: (Father at the local church. Male. Playing Age: Early 30s-Late 40s) You did what you thought was right Stop being so hard on yourself, Anne. I know how you must be feeling but Beat. What did you expect me to do, Anne? March into your house and start laying down the law about how she should liver her life? I couldn t do that. (Brief pause.) People expect me to have all the answers, but I don t. I m like everyone else. I m trying to learn by going where I have to go. Beat. Listen, we re good friends, aren t we? I d hate to think you couldn t be honest with me.
