Holiday Actors & Warrnambool Theatre Company Les Misérables HA & WTC ETHOS Holiday Actors and Warrnambool Theatre Company are proud to be joining forces to bring the spectacle of Les Misérables to Warrnambool. Both companies strive to be inclusive, welcoming and collaborative organisations that provide opportunities for individuals to experience the thrill of theatre. Mounting a successful production requires commitment, passion and collaboration from many individuals over several months. HA & WTC believe that a production is above all a team experience; through working in a considerate, supportive and dedicated manner Les Misérables will be both a creative and critical success. The following principles form the HA & WTC Les Misérables charter: All decisions in the show will be made through the lens of inclusivity. Communication between all participants, both on and off the stage, will be respectful honest and open. An environment that meets the standards of child safety will be developed and enforced. Preference will be given to local performers, musicians and theatre specialists from the South West region to promote community engagement. A safe and nondiscriminatory environment will be developed to allow all participants to give their best effort. Auditions will be conducted in a transparent process that allows participants to feel secure, valued and understood. VICTOR HUGO S LES MISÉRABLES SYNOPSIS One of the world s most iconic and longest-running musicals, Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict who spends a lifetime seeking redemption. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France and the aftermath of the French Revolution, this timeless story of intertwined destinies reveals the power of compassion and the quiet evil of indifference to human suffering. As Valjean s quest for a new life carries him into Paris and to the barricades of the Student Revolution, he is hunted by Inspector Javert and the ghosts of his past. Amidst a battle for the soul of Paris, he discovers the true meaning of love and salvation. Performed in over 40 countries and 22 languages, and with a lush, swelling score that features such famed songs as I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, and Bring Him Home, Les Mis breathes life into Victor Hugo s revolutionary novel. CAST Les Misérables requires approximately 50 singers who can act, with a diverse age range from young to more mature performers. Every person/character is an integral part of bringing to life this wonderful story. We want this to be a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone. Les Misérables is a contemporary opera so there is no dialogue but it does offer many solo opportunities within the ensemble so we require a solid mix of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass voices. 3

The ensemble is a mix of wonderful characters such as: students at the barricade, Thénardier s gang, factory workers, farmers, constables, prostitutes, labourers, towns people, chain gang and wedding guests.
