This will normally be at the beginning of the following term. If only one or two pupils from a school wish to learn a particular instrument your child will be placed on our waiting list which is reviewed every term. The instrumental/vocal teacher will contact parents direct with lesson details as soon as lessons become available.
2 Telford and Wrekin Music: Terms and Conditions Small Group Lessons A guaranteed minimum of 30 lessons per academic year will be provided and will be a maximum of 30 minutes in length in an appropriate sized group. As the school year is approximately 38 weeks long there will be weeks when lessons do not take place. Please check the Calendar of Music Teaching Weeks for information on music teaching weeks. Individual One to One Lessons A guaranteed minimum of 30 lessons per academic year will be provided and will be a maximum of 30 minutes in length on a one to one basis. As the school year is approximately 38 weeks long there will be weeks when lessons do not take place. Please check the Calendar of Music Teaching Weeks for information on music teaching weeks. When will lessons be held? Tutors will visit your child s school to provide lessons during school hours at times agreed with the school. This means that parents do not have to make arrangements to transport children or make arrangements to collect their child at a special time. In Primary Schools the day of the lesson will be specified and children collected or sent for at the correct time of the lesson. In Secondary Schools your child should consult the Music Notice board each week to check the time of their lesson. The teaching day is usually the same, although times are changed weekly or fortnightly to ensure that pupils do not miss the same curriculum lesson every week. It is the responsibility of your child to ensure that they attend their lessons each week. No refund can be given for lessons missed due to forgotten times. Instruments Purchasing or hiring the most suitable instrument is not always straightforward and your child s teacher will have informed views about the size and price and reliability of instruments. We are often able to hire instruments to pupils, depending on availability (we do not hire guitars, drums or keyboards). Please contact the TWM Office for more information and an Instrument Hire Application Form. Conditions of Loan The parent/guardian agrees to take the utmost care to maintain the instrument and protect the instrument from loss, theft or damage. Any instructions on the care and maintenance of the instrument must be strictly observed. An instrument must never be played by any person other than the pupil to whom it is loaned except with the permission of the Instrumental Instructor. Instrument cases must never be opened in transit. Instruments must be returned immediately to the Instrumental Instructor under any of the following circumstances: lessons are stopped a pupil leaves school or moves to a school outside of Telford & Wrekin the Instrumental Instructor or TWM requires the instrument to be returned
3 Terms and Conditions (cont d) Loss or Damage of Instruments Loss or damage to the instrument must be reported immediately to the Instrumental Tutor. TWM will be responsible for repairs that are due to wear and tear. The parent/guardian will be responsible for repairs that become necessary due to accidental or wilful damage. TWM will arrange for all repairs to be carried out. The parent/guardian will be invoiced for the cost of any repairs if appropriate. The parent/guardian is advised to insure the instrument either through household insurance or specialised musical instrument insurance. Fees Please refer to the current Price List for information on current fees. Fees are payable in advance of lessons. If payment is not received by the date that lessons are due to start they will suspended until payment has been received. If a payment is received late, lessons will not automatically be resumed. We operate a Monthly Direct Debit Scheme which some parents may prefer which allows you to spread the cost over a 10 month period. Please see the current Price List for options. Remission of Fees TWM operates a scheme to support families who are in receipt of Income Support or who meet Child Tax criteria. Please be aware that if proof of benefit is not sent in with your Application Form, before lessons begin, you will be charged the full amount and no credit will be given. An annual price review will take place in April of each year. Absence Pupil - refunds are not available when a pupil does not turn up for a lesson due to illness, if they are away on a school trip or if the school cancels the visit. Teacher - any absences by TWM teachers will be made up either in the same term as the absence occurs or if this is not possible during the first weeks of the next term. In the case of long-term teacher absence (two weeks or more), we will do our best to find a replacement teacher. Cancellation of Lessons If you wish to cancel lessons half a terms notice is required. A completed Stop Form must be returned to the Office, verbal notification by pupils is not acceptable. Schools or teachers are unable to accept Stop Forms. We cannot refund any services not received due to cancellation.
4 Terms and Conditions (cont d) Practice Commitment to regular practice is essential in order to make steady progress and in order to develop, practice at home between lessons is important. Tutors will set targets for students to work on and will hope that you, as a parent, will check the progress and encourage your child to practices the relevant pieces. As a guide, it is advisable in the early stages to practice for about 10 minutes a day a little every day is much more beneficial than a week s worth the night before the lesson. For Primary School pupils our tutors will use a Log Card in which to record details of any practice required for the next lessons. Please ensure that your child takes their card to each lesson and look at it regularly to review your child s progress. Reviews For Primary School pupils on beginning lessons your child will receive a Log Card which should be taken along to each lesson to be signed by the Music Tutor. Please take time to read the Log Card as it will give details on what your child should be practising and any notes that the teacher feels you should be aware of i.e. change to lesson times. A yearly Parents Evening takes place for the tutors to be able to speak with you face to face on your child s progress. In the meantime if you have any questions contact the office and they will happily ask the tutor to contact you direct. The Instrumental Music Service reserves the right to amend any of the above Conditions Contact Details Please keep TWM advised of any changes to your contact details.
