Round III: National Finals (Division II) May 4, 2019 CARNEGIE HALL (Weill Recital Hall), NYC (8:00PM) Guidelines 1. Eligibility. All Division I and II contestants must be U.S. citizens or non-citizens authorized to work in the United States. Winners of Division I and II must provide proper identification along with a valid Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). Division I and II Winners must also complete and sign both the I-9 and W-9 United States Government Forms. Since there are no monetary winnings for the Pre-college Division, those applicants are not required to have a Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). The competition is open to all singers who HAVE NOT already performed a leading role with an Opera America Level I Company (annual budget greater than $10 million). 2. Junior High Division: All Junior High applicants must be 10-14 (currently enrolled in Junior High at Grade School on April 28, 2019). Junior High applicants will be asked to sing one aria, art song or musical theatre song (in any language) at the applicants audition location of choice. In order to compete in the Junior High division of this competition, all applicants must be available to sing in the Regional Division auditions (any location of applicant s choice) and must be able to perform in NYC at the National Opera Center on April 28, 2019 if chosen as a 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd Place National Winner, National Finalist or Alternate. Unlike the Division I II, all national semi-finalists, national finalists, and 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Place winners will be chosen at the Regional Level for the Junior High Division. 3. High School Division: All High School applicants must be 13-19 ( must be currently enrolled in High School on April 28, 2019). Each High School applicant will be asked to sing one aria, art song or musical theatre song (in any language) at the applicants audition location of choice. In order to compete in the High School Division of this competition, all applicants must be available to sing in the Regional Division auditions (any location of applicant s choice) and must be able to perform in NYC at the National Opera Center on April 28, 2019 if chosen as a 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd Place National Winner, National Finalist or Alternate. Unlike the Division I II, all national semi-finalists, national finalists, and 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Place winners will be chosen at the Regional Level for the High School Division. 4. Division I: All Division I applicants must be 18-28 years of age on April 28, 2019. Each Division I applicant will be asked to sing three contrasting art songs and/or arias in at least two languages (at the applicants audition location of choice or by video recording for Round I). In order to compete in this competition, all Division I applicants must be available for both the National Semi-Finals and National Finals in New York City on the dates listed below. 5. Division II: All Division II applicants must be 29-40 years of age on May 4, 2019. Each Division II applicant will be asked to sing five contrasting arias in at least three languages (at the applicants audition location of choice or by video recording for Round I). In order to compete in this competition, all Division II applicants must be available for both the National Semi-Finals and National Finals in New York City on the dates listed below. 6. Age Limit. Junior High Division: 10-14 currently enrolled in Junior High of Grade School (as of April 28, 2019). High School Division: 13-19 currently enrolled in High School (as of April 28, 2019); Division I: 18-28 years of age (as of April 28, 2019); Division II: 29-40 years of age (as of May 4, 2019). 7. Round I: Regional Finals: Regional applicants will/may audition live (All divisions) or by recording (Division I II only). See Guideline #18 for regional audition locations. Each regional applicant must be prepared to sing the following in a live audition or by recording: Junior High Division: one sacred song, musical theatre, art song, aria or lieder in any language: Live audition ONLY High School Division: one sacred song, musical theatre, art song, aria or lieder in any language: Live audition ONLY Division I: three (in total) contrasting art songs and/or arias in at least two different languages: Live or video recorded audition Division II: five contrasting arias in at least three languages: Live or video recorded audition The finalists from the regional level will advance to Round II, the National Semi-Finals. The National Semi-Finals for Division I II will be held in New York City. National Semi-Finals for the Junior High High School divisions will be notified if they have advanced to the National Finals. Since the Junior High High School Division National Finalists will be chosen from the Regional level, the Junior High High School divisions will not be asked to sing in NYC (unless they are competing in the NY regional auditions or have been chosen as 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd Place Winners, National Finalists Alternates). 8. Round II: National Semi-finals. All Regional Finalists will advance to the Round II: National Semi-Finals. All Division I and II National Semi-Finalists must be available to compete live in New York City on: Division I: Saturday, April 27, 2019 (4:00-7:30PM) Division II: Friday, May 4, 2019 (6:00-9:00PM) Each Division I Division II National Semi-Finalists must be prepared to sing the following live: Division I: three contrasting arias or arts songs (or combination of both: 3 in all) in at least two different languages Division II: five contrasting arias in at least three languages PLEASE NOTE: Junior High and High School Finalists will be chosen from the Regional level. No additional audition will be required for this Round. 9. Round III: National Finals. Junior High High School Division: 10 contestants ( 2 alternates) will be chosen for the National Finals and will perform at the Division I National Finals. In addition to the Junior High High School Winners Concert---1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd Place winners will perform at the Division I National Finals on April 28, 2019.

Division I: 8 contestants ( 2 alternates) will be chosen as the National Finalists must be available to compete live at National Opera Center (NYC) on April 28, 2019 at 6:30PM. Regarding alternates: if one of the National Finalists is unable to perform, then one of the alternates may be asked to compete in the National Finals on April 28, 2019. Alternates are required to be at the National Finals and will be photographed with the National Finalists. Division II: 8 contestants ( 2 alternates) will be chosen as the National Finalists must be available to compete live at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (NYC) on May 4, 2019 at 8:00PM. Regarding alternates: if one of the National Finalists is unable to perform, then one of the alternates may be asked to compete in the National Finals on May 4, 2019. Alternates are required to be at the National Finals and will be photographed with the National Finalists. 10. Dates of National Semi-Finals, National Finals, Junior High/High School Winners Concert. Judges. Different panels of opera professionals will judge the various rounds and divisions of the competition. 12. Judging for the finals. The judges will have 100% of the vote for 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd Prizes. The votes will be tallied immediately following Division I and II of the competition, and the results will be announced after a short break. The Junior High and High School Divisions will have been chosen from the Regional level notified on or before April 1, 2019. 13. Accompanist. Accompanists will be provided for Rounds I, II, III. Applicants may, however, choose to bring their own accompanist at their own expense for Rounds I or II only. 14. Proof of Age. Division I II applicants must submit a copy of a valid passport, driver s license, or state issued photo ID. Junior High High School applicants must provide a certified birth certificate. 15. Nonrefundable entrance fee. The (nonrefundable) application fees are as follows: Junior High, High School, Division I and II is $55.00. Pay by paypal (2.3% paypal fee plus $0.30 for paypal payments) prior to the deadline. Please email info@newyorklyricopera.org. If applicants are not pre-registered and choose to come as a walk-in, CASH or MONEY ORDERS will be accepted for payment of the nonrefundable entrance fee. NO PERSONAL CHECKS will be accepted on the date of the audition. 16. Application deadlines for LIVE audition. : December 6, 2018 (for December 9, 2018 audition date) January 31, 2019 (for February 2, 2019 audition date), March 20, 2019 (for March 23, 2018 audition date), March 21, 2019 (for March 24, 2019 audition date). Auditions for Round I BY VIDEO RECORDING: Division I II applicants may audition either by a live audition or by video recording. (Junior High High School Divisions are not permitted to audition via video recording for Round I). Division I II applicants: please email materials and submit the competition fee via paypal along with video recording to info@newyorklyricopera.org. Mp3, wav, soundcloud or youtube links are accepted. Please submit ONLY video recordings.

Video recording does not need to be professionally produced. 19. Locations for Round I (Live Regional Auditions): All applicants may choose to audition in person at one of these locations. (Division I II have a choice to audition Live or by Video Recording for Round I). Southern Division: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee. Midwestern Division: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin. Western Division: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming. 21. Notification for Winners. Round I: Notification by email for ALL divisions will be on or before April 1, 2019. If applicant has NOT received notification of the results for Round I by the date listed above, please email us as soon as possible at info@newyorklyricopera.org. Round II: Junior High High School Division applicants will be notified of the 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd Place Winners, National Finalists Alternates no later than April 1, 2018. Division I National Finalists will be notified of the winners on or before 11:59PM on April 27, 2019. Division II National Finalists will be notified of the winners on or before 11:59PM on May 3, 2019. Round III: Junior High High School Division 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Place winners, National Finalists, and Alternates will perform live at the 2019 National Competition at National Opera Center on April 28, 2019. Division I Winners will be announced live on April 28, 2019 at National Opera Center. Division II Winners will be announced live on May 4, 2019 at Carnegie Hall. 22. Disqualification. Any misrepresentation on the application will be cause for disqualification without benefit of appeal.
