CLASSROOM MUSIC Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive and extensive music program. An understanding, appreciation and love of music is something students can take with them through their lives and we aim to build students confidence and self-esteem, through music performance opportunities. Every student at Girls Grammar in Prep to Year 8 participates in a Classroom Music Program. Music is an elective subject in Years 9 to Year 12, with Extension Music offered in Senior Years. GIRLS GRAMMAR INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC The School has a renowned program including choirs, chamber groups, string ensemble and concert band. Students can be involved in these various ensembles as well as having the opportunity to participate in private tuition with experienced and motivated studio teachers. TUITION ELIGIBILITY A student participating in private tuition requires no previous musical experience but once undertaking lessons each student is encouraged to involve themselves in at least one of the applicable music ensembles/events available to them. Private instrumental and/or vocal tuition is available for students from Prep to Year 12 and new student enrolment into the program will occur at the commencement of each semester. LESSON TIMES Tuition is conducted during class time and consists of one 50 minute lesson or one 25 minute lesson per week (15 per semester). Secondary School students will be on a rotating time slot, to avoid missing the same class, while Year 11 and 12 students will be placed in their independent study sessions wherever possible. Primary students will be given a permanent time slot negotiated with their class teacher. Students need to be punctual to maximise the value of their booked lesson time. The 50 minute sessions may, in negotiation with the instrumental teacher, be delivered as 2 x 25 minute sessions. INSTRUMENTS Currently the Instrumental program covers tuition on the following instruments: Piano Clarinet Recorder (Sopranino, Voice Bass Clarinet Descant, Alto, Tenor, Violin Saxophone (Soprano, Bass) Viola Alto, Tenor, Baritone) Auxiliary percussion Cello Trumpet/ Cornet (snare, bass drum, Double Bass Tuba triangle, cymbals, chimes Guitar Euphonium etc.) and tuned percussion Ukulele Trombone (xylophone, glockenspiel, Flute French Horn timpani) Piccolo Oboe 2 P age

Fees are based on the recommended hourly rate set by the Music Teachers Association of Queensland. 2019 Tuition Fees Charged to Students Weekly Lesson Semester Fee 15 lessons (per instrument) Annual Fee 30 lessons (per instrument) 25 min lesson weekly $472 $924 50 min lesson weekly $945 $1,850 The tuition fee is based on 15 lessons per semester or 30 lessons in the period of one year. The Semester 1 Instrumental Music Program form and payment must be received no later than Thursday 7 February 2019. Semester 2 Instrumental Music Program form and payment must be received no later than the final day of Term 2, Friday 28 June 2019. Girls Grammar is pleased to offer the free use of instruments to students who sign up early for instrumental lessons. Availability is dependent upon demand. We hope this will provide students with an opportunity to explore the rewards of playing an instrument. If you do plan to purchase an instrument, consultation with the instrumental teacher on quality of brand is also advised. The Girls Grammar Music Department is also able to recommend suppliers and instrument hire companies. Students in secondary who are learning an instrument are expected to purchase or hire the instrument at the commencement of their lessons. It is expected that each student will purchase the necessary equipment & resources for their lessons (e.g. music, reeds and drumsticks). Private teachers will not photocopy music for their students. Instrumental and vocal students may elect to complete examinations and/or eisteddfod performances, which will incur an additional cost. SUPPORT OF PARENTS The music department requests full parental support for the practise schedule as determined by the tutor. Students require an instrument to practise and it is expected that one is purchased or hired when each student commences lessons. The Girls Grammar Instrumental Coordinator can supply the details of recommended suppliers and instrument hire outlets. There may be some additional expenses throughout the term. These expenses may include: music books, eisteddfod entries, exam fees etc. Parents will be notified of the applicable amounts. PROGRESS REPORTS Students who have participated in the instrumental or vocal program will receive a semester report for each instrument. 3 P age
