SECTION 27 05 10 - COMMUNITY ANTENNA TELEVISION CABLING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. The requirements of Section 27 01 00 govern the work specified in this section. B. Refer to the following sections for related work 1. 26 05 26 Grounding and Bonding for Electrical Systems 2. 26 05 36 -- Telecommunication Wiring Cable Trays 1.2 DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS A. All Broadband Video (radio frequency) amplifiers and pre-amplifiers shall be produced by a single manufacturer. All connectivity products shall be produced by a single manufacturer. B. The Construction Drawings are diagrammatic only. The Telecommunications Contractor (TC) shall accept responsibility for altering the design to adhere to site conditions and to achieve the db level specified in these specifications. 1.3 SYSTEM FUNCTIONS AND CAPABILITIES A. The Broadband Video Distribution System shall provide for the acceptance and distribution of signals originating as follows throughout the complex to each Video Display/TV outlet location 1. Local Cable TV System. 2. Programming/Video originating at any receiver outlet by using an Owner provided sub-band modulator and sub-band converter modulator. 3. Programming/Video originating at the television console unit. B. System provided shall have the capability of functioning effectively from Channel 2 (54 MHz) through Channel 78 (552 MHz). C. Radiation/signal leakage of the completed system in full operation shall comply with current FCC requirements. D. All passive equipment necessary for the Broadband Video Distribution System shall be located in the Telecommunications Rooms and the corridor ceilings. Taps and splitters shall be secured to cable tray if at all possible. A single coaxial cable (Series 6 or Series 11) shall extend from the Taps/Splitters to each room outlet. All active equipment shall be installed in the Telecommunications Rooms. E. The Broadband Video Distribution System shall furnish a minimum level of zero (0) db to a maximum level of ten (10) db across the total channel range at each outlet. The system shall pass all cable channels available without degradation of intelligence and color fidelity. 3.1 HORIZONTAL DISTRIBUTION CABLING A. The horizontal distribution cabling system for this specification is the portion of the telecommunications cabling system that extends from the outlet to the Telecommunications Room (TR). B. Horizontal Distribution Cable Installation 1. Coax Cables a. Cable shall be plenum rated Series 6 (RG-6 type) coaxial cable and plenum rated Series 11 (RG-11 type) coaxial cable, P3 500 Cable, unless installed underslab, or in an outdoor environment. Cables installed underslab or outdoors shall be rated Outside Plant, or Direct Burial and provide water blockage. All coaxial cable shall conform to the standards requirements of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers specifications for Flexible RF Drop Cable. Quad shielded Series 11 coaxial cable may be necessary in some applications to obtain desired signal levels. b. All coaxial cable shall be 75+/- 3 ohm and factory tested for Structural Return Loss to 1000 MHz. c. Cable shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer s recommendations and best industry practices. It shall be installed in a neat and professional manner, ensuring adherence to manufacturer s specifications for bending radius, maximum tensile load, and cable termination specifications. 2. A pull cord (nylon; 1/8 inch minimum) shall be co-installed with all cable installed in any homerun conduit and conduits exceeding 2 in diameter. 3. Cable raceways shall not be filled greater than the TIA/EIA-569-A maximum fill for the particular raceway type or 40%. 4. Cables shall be installed in continuous lengths from origin to destination (no splices) except were noted on Construction Documents. 5. The ceiling cable support throughout most of the facility will be accomplished by utilizing open areas above ceilings and cable trays when available. If cable trays or sleeves are available, TC must use the cable trays and sleeves as their pathway. All penetrations through fire-rated walls or floors must be sleeved. In areas where support structure is not available, cables will be supported with metallic J-brackets at regular 4-5 foot intervals. Cables may only be supported by building structure when the cable spans do not exceed 5 foot intervals. Cables MAY NOT be supported on top of walls or I-beams or in areas where the cable is susceptible to damage. Cables shall not be attached to ceiling grid or lighting fixture wires. At no point shall cable(s) rest on acoustic ceiling grids or panels. When utilizing J-hooks, the TC shall neatly groom the cables with tie wraps. 6. No cables shall run exposed. In areas of no accessible ceiling and where a pathway is not being provided by others, the TC shall provide the pathway. The pathway shall be EMT conduit in common areas, or wiremold metallic raceway in classroom/office areas. 7. All equipment and materials installed in plenum environments shall be UL rated acceptable for plenum environments. 8. Cables shall be installed above fire-sprinkler systems and shall not be attached to the system or any ancillary equipment or hardware. The cable system and support hardware shall be installed so that it does not obscure any valves, fire alarm conduit, boxes, or other control devices. 9. Any cable damaged or exceeding recommended installation parameters during installation shall be replaced by the TC prior to final acceptance at no cost to the Owner. 10. Provide over voltage protection on both ends of cabling exposed to lightning or accidental contact with power conductors. TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMUNITY ANTENNA TELEVISION CABLING 27 05 10-4

11. Abandoned cables shall be removed port to port. C. Telecommunication Room (TR) 1. The Telecommunications Room includes those products that connect the catv equipment to the horizontal and backbone cabling subsystems. These products include termination hardware (connectors), taps, splitters, couplers and amplifiers. 2. Termination Hardware a. Connectors, splitters and directional couplers shall provide 100% shielding. b. Lightning Protection 3. Head-End 1) Provide over voltage protection on entrance cables from CATV provider. a. All Head-end equipment provided by the TC shall be mounted on plywood backboard in the Main Telecommunications Room. If a plywood backboard is not currently installed, TC to provide one 4 x 4 foot x ¾ inch thick fire-rated plywood mounted at 48 inches AFF. Plywood shall be painted with two coats of white fire-retardant paint leaving the manufacture s printed labels unpainted and clearly visible. b. Distribution Amplifiers: Furnish and install at the Head-End location a distribution amplifier(s) with a minimum frequency range of 47-750 MHz. Amplifiers shall be mounted in a vertical position. c. AC Power for the Head-End Equipment shall be furnished from a 120 VAC, 20 amp circuit. This circuit shall not be used for any other electrical equipment within the building. The circuit breaker shall be identified as Video Distribution Head-End Equipment Only. If the project is a renovation or upgrade, coordinate power for head-end equipment with CMS Telecommunications Department. d. All jumper cables shall be no less than 24 in length. e. The Contractor shall install one plenum Series 6 coaxial cable from the CATV distribution head-end to the CATV console. Coordinate locations with CMS Telecommunications Quality Site Inspector. 4. Connectors a. All connectors must be cable system approved and provide 100% shielding. All connectors shall be F type for Series 6 and 11. P3 500 cable shall be Pin style connectors and splices. The Series 11 (RG-11 type) F shall be of the type that adapts the center conductor to a standard size pin in the female F connector. All connectors shall be of the same manufacturer. 5. Distribution Amplifiers D. Outlets a. Amplifers shall be installed in the Telecommunications Room, and wall mounted on ¾ fire-rated plywood. 1. Furnish and install an F type self-terminating faceplate connection at each outlet location. Plates shall match adjacent convenience outlet plates in material and finish. 2. Cables shall be coiled in the in-wall or surface-mount boxes, if adequate space is present, to house the cable coil without exceeding the manufacturers bend radius. Excess slack shall be loosely coiled and stored in the accessible ceiling above each drop location when there is not enough space present in the outlet box to store slack cable. 3. Cables shall be dressed and terminated in accordance with the recommendations made in the TIA/EIA, manufacturers recommendations and best industry practices. 4. Bend radius of the cable in the termination area shall not be less than 10 x the cable s outside diameter for Series 6 and Series 11. 5. 106 Frames, if required, shall be a 2 or 4 port frame that mounts onto U.S. NEMA standard junction boxes and wall board adapters with screw-to screw dimensions of 3.28 (83.3mm) and behind NEMA standard 106 duplex electrical faceplates. Frames shall accept individual modules that can be individually inserted and removed as required. 6. For surface mounted raceway equivalent to Wiremold 4000 and power poles, provide angled connector faceplates. TC to provide all necessary fittings and additional materials to adhere to manufacturer s installation guidelines and to protect the cables. 7. Blank cover plates for all unused Telecommunications Outlets shall be provided by others unless otherwise specified in the Construction Documents. E. Slack required 1. Data room-10 feet minimum for Series 6, Series 11, 500 2. Outlet 12 inch minimum for Series 6, Series 11. 3.2 BACKBONE CABLE INSTALLATION A. All trunk lines between separate buildings shall be installed in conduit, unless otherwise noted on the Construction Documents. B. All cables shall be plenum rated, unless otherwise noted. C. A pull cord (nylon; 1/8 inch minimum) shall be co-installed with all cable installed in all conduits. D. Where backbone cables and distribution cables are installed in a cable tray or wireway, backbone cables shall be bundled separately from the horizontal distribution cables. E. All backbone cables shall be securely fastened to the sidewall of the Telecommunications Rooms on each floor with metallic D-Rings on the fire-rated plywood. F. Backbone cables spanning more than three floors shall be securely attached at the top of the cable run with a wire mesh grip and on alternating floors or as required by local codes. G. Vertical runs of cable shall be supported to messenger strand, cable ladder, or other method to provide proper support for the weight of the cable. H. Large bundles of cables and/or heavy cables shall be attached using metal clamps and/or metal banding to support the cables. I. Provide over voltage protection on both ends of cabling exposed to lightning or accidental contact with power conductors. J. Abandoned cables shall be removed port to port. K. Refer to PART 3 EXEUCTION of this section for additional cabling requirements. 3.3 GROUNDING AND BONDING A. Grounding shall be installed per NEC and ANSI/TIA/EIA 607-A and manufacturer s grounding requirements as a minimum. B. Bond and ground equipment racks, housings, messenger cables, ladder racks, metallic raceways with a #6 AWG stranded green conductor. #12 AWG stranded green conductor shall be used to bond surface mounted metallic raceways. However, in plenum areas, the grounding conductor shall be a bare, solid conductor for all grounding applications. Electrical Contractor (EC) to bond or ground all pathways provided by EC; coordinate with EC. C. TC shall provide a ground block and ground CATV entrance cable. D. TMGB (Telecommunications Main Grounding Busbar) and TGB Telecommunications Grounding Busbar) shall be provided by the EC unless otherwise noted. Electrical Contractor shall bond the TMGB to the electrical service equipment ground and to building steel with a #6 AWG green conductor unless otherwise noted on the Electrical Construction Documents. The TGB shall also be bonded to building steel by the EC. 3.4 FIRESTOP A. All penetrations through fire-rated building structures (walls and floors) shall be sealed with an appropriate firestop system. This requirement applies to through penetrations (complete penetration) and membrane penetrations (through one side of a hollow fire rated structure). Any penetrating item i.e., riser slots and sleeves, cables, conduit, cable tray, and raceways that are specifically designated for the data/video/voice infrastructure shall be properly firestopped. The contracting discipline installing the sleeve or slot, shall be responsible for sealing the area on the exterior of the sleeve or slot. The TC shall be responsible for firestopping the interior annular area. B. Firestop systems utilized shall be dictated by this project s Professional Electrical Engineer s UL design. See electrical drawings and specifications for exact details. If a Professional Engineer s UL design is not available, Contractor shall provide appropriate UL design for penetrations through rated walls and properly firestop penetrations. These documents shall be submitted to the General Contractor (GC) and the Designer. 3.5 IDENTIFICATION AND LABELING A. Every coax cable, tap, splitters, couplers, grounding and bonding conductor and junction boxes shall be labeled with self-adhesive printed labels. Cables shall be labeled on each end. Refer to ANSI/TIA/EIA 606 and Owner requirements to coordinate labeling schemes. B. The labeling shall be as follows TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMUNITY ANTENNA TELEVISION CABLING 27 05 10-7

3.6 TESTING 1. Cables: TR# (or MC)-AA-S (or T)-4 where TR# determines Telecommunications Room (MC designates the Main Data Room), AA determines backbone cable, the S# designates the splitter (T# designates the tap), and 4 designates the port number on the splitter (or tap). 2. Faceplate: TR# (MC)-TA# (or S#)-4 where TR# determines the Telecommunications Room (MC designates the Main Data Room), TA# designates the tap (or S# designates the splitter), and 4 designates the port on the tap. 3. Ceiling grid: TR# (or MC)-TA# (or S#) where TR# determines the Telecommunications Room (MC designates the Main Data Room), TA# designates the tap (or S# designates the splitter). A. The Owner reserves the right to test all delivered goods, and to use a portion of any goods before the results of the tests are known, without prejudice to any final adjustments, rejecting the unused portion of the delivery, and making payment on an adjusted basis for the used portion. The cost of inspections and test of any item, which fails to meet the advertised specifications, shall be borne by the Contractor. B. The Designer and/or Owner may request that a 10% random field re-test be conducted on the cable system, at no additional cost, to verify documented findings. Tests shall be a repeat of those defined above. If findings contradict the documentation submitted by the Contractor, additional testing can be requested to the extent determined necessary by the Owner, including a 100% re-test by outside agency. This re-test shall be at no additional cost to the Owner. C. All cables and termination hardware shall be 100% tested for defects in installation and to verify cabling system performance under installed conditions according to the requirements of these specifications. Testing shall be accomplished using a CATV Signal Level Meter. Channels to be tested are 2 (54 MHz), 35 (294 MHz), 70 (504 MHz). 3.7 SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION AND OWNER ACCEPTANCE A. The final inspection by the Owner and Designer shall be the closure of all previously listed punch list items. B. The Completion Date of the Project is defined as the date that all documentation obligations have been met under the Construction Documents and these specifications. C. The final inspection by Building Standards shall be the closure of required Electrical Permits. D. Upon completion of the installation, the TC shall provide two (2) full documentation sets to the Owner for approval. E. Close-Out Documents Submittal 1. Operating instructions for all equipment. 2. Schematic diagrams of all electronic equipment. 3. Two E-size As-Built diagrams of the complete CATV system showing route of each coaxial cable, location of outlets, couplers (indicate each directional coupler isolation value in db and location by room number), pull boxes and signal splitters. 4. 5. One 12 foot long Series 6 cable with F type connector on each end, for each outlet location. 6. Test results: A chart of CATV signal levels made at outlet locations, amplifier inputs and outputs. 7. Electrical Permit Inspection Detail 8. CD disk containing as-built electronic files in AutoCAD 2000 or 2004 format, bind all external references. 9. Provide facility assignment records which include a-built C size (11 x22 ) in a protective cover at each Telecommunications Room location that is specific to the facilities terminated therein.
