1 PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 SCOPE OF WORK SECTION MASTER TELEVISION ANTENNA SYSTEM (MTAS) A. The extent of the master television antenna system (MTAS) work is hereby defined to include (but not by way of limitation) the furnishing and installing of a system. 1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturers: Firms regularly engaged in the manufacture of MTA systems of the type required, and which have been in satisfactory use for not less than five-years in similar services. B. Electrical Standards: Provide tested, listed, and labeled UL electrical products complying with NEMA standards. C. Installation and testing of the system shall be verified by a SCTE (Society of Telecommunications Engineers) certified BCT (Broadband Communications Technician) or BDS (Broadband Distribution Specialist) certified installer. 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Submittals on MTA systems are required as follows 1. Shop Drawings 2. Riser Diagram 3. Wiring Diagram 4. Manufacturer's Data 5. Manufacturer's Product Warranty 6. Operating Instructions 7. Maintenance Manuals PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 Provide the required MTA system products in the sizes and capacities indicated, complying with the manufacturer's published product information. 2.2 Apply complete weatherproofing methods at the time of installations. A. Do not leave any coaxial fittings uncovered or exposed at any time during installation. B. Use a non-hardening silicone base compound. 2.3 The following specifications apply to all receiving antennas and their supporting structures. A. The references in all cases apply to the entire structure for wind loading and stability. 1 Construct all supporting structures and antennas based on ASCE 7 for velocity of 140 mph; embedment of ITV tower shall be in accordance with actual soil condition. 2 Support parabolic antennas on structures whose twist and sway under 65 mph winds shall not exceed the following limit schedule: Antenna Diameter Twist Sway Six foot Architect s Project Number of 5 Master Television Antenna System
2 B. Construct parabolic antennas to withstand wind forces per ASCE 7 on a minimum force as listed below. 1 Consider these forces in the top loading of supporting structures. 2 Submit manufacturer's specifications for any support structure other than a simple galvanized (inside and out) pipe of at least 3" inside diameter having an unsupported length of not more than 6'. 3 Embed a minimum 4' of the supporting pipe into the concrete pole, properly secured and bonded to the concrete pole. 4 Due to casting requirements, the remaining 6' is field attached. 5 Threaded connections alone are not acceptable provide additional fastening of the pipes by welding or bolting. C. Wind loadings table for parabolic antennas of solid sheet metal construction shall be as per ASCE 7 wind loads or minimum forces as follows: 1 Antenna Diameter Force Lbs. (Minimum) 2 Six foot 2200 D. Support connecting leads between antennas and receivers against wind abrasion, and provide waterproof connectors according to manufacturer's recommendations. 1 Antenna line shall be 50-Ohm Heliax, ⅜" Foam Dielectric, Andrew Part Number LDF2-50, or approved equal in writing by the SDPBC TEN Department. 2 Connectors shall be male N Type, Andrew Part Number L2PNM (silver plated body/gold plated pin). 3 Antenna line runs from antenna connector to junction box (20"x 20"x 6") at the base of the tower installed over the hand hole. E. Receiver down converter shall be; attached to antenna line N connector; transmission-line compression connector; and electrical ground at J box, at the base of the tower. F. Each receiving antenna installation shall require the following submittal data: 1 Calculations substantiating structural integrity of the tower and foundation or mounting assembly, certified by a Florida registered engineer. 2 Layout of the concrete self-supporting tower with structural details showing specific construction procedures, such drawing shall be complete. 3 All design shall be governed by applicable sections of EIA Manual RS222-A, Manual of Steel Construction of the AISC, Standards of ACI, FBC, and other nationally recognized codes for materials under consideration not stated above. 4 All outside hardware, including tower hardware shall be hot-dipped galvanized or equivalent with same or better anti-rust characteristics for our tropical climate. 5 Provide a drawing of installed electrical ground system with verified test results (five Ohms or less). G. May substitute alternate manufacturers on all equipment and cables, providing they equal or exceed the physical and electrical specifications of the indicated manufacturers. 1 Submit alternate manufactured materials for approval 14 days prior to bid. 2 The SDPBC TEN Department shall approve alternate manufacturers in writing. H. Change the 6' grid antenna requirement to 3' grid (P-25A36GNU) for facilities close to the broadcast towers as directed by the TEN Department. 1 Verify with the Project Engineer. 2 Provide Gabriel P-25A36GN-U Antenna. 2.4 Provide hot-dipped galvanized steel or stainless steel structural metals supporting structures. 2.5 Protect self-supporting concrete tower from climbing by unauthorized personnel. 3 A. Ladder rungs shall start 20 feet above ground on the side opposite antenna azimuth. B. Provide "U" shaped ladder rungs embedded in tower. C. Ladder rungs shall be spaced not less than 12' or more than 20' apart. 2.6 Receiver output cables shall be in conduit from tower to building entry and protected against water and abrasion. A. Supporting structures for antennas shall have a certified grounding system. B. The system shall include as a minimum a lightning dissipater at the top of the tower and a lightning suppressor Polyphaser Model IS-MT50LN-ME in the junction box at the base of the tower. C. Install the system in accordance with NFPA 780. D. A contractor licensed in this field shall certify grounding system. E. Provide written certification to the District Project Manager. F. Provide a copy of this report to the SDPBC TEN Department. 2.7 Antenna height shall be no less than 100' above grade level unless pre-approved by School District. 2.8 Select the height and size of dish to provide a 50 DB Carrier to noise ratio, at the output of the down converter receiver. A. Contractor may have to add a 2.5 GHz attenuator to the input side of the down converter in very high signal areas to prevent down converter overload. 2.9 Down converter receiver shall be Conifer Model HLN-3 (EBS), with power supply Furnish a down converter power, supply with the down converter System distribution amplifier is Blonder-Tongue BID A-55A-50 or approved equal In addition to the ITV system distribution, provide an additional Digital Broadcast Headend located in the Media Center Production Room. A. Connect the Digital Broadcast Headend to the system distribution with four RG-6(Belden 1694A) cables and provided with a dedicated 120VAC, 20AMPS quad receptacle. B. Provide a Digital Broadcast Headend manufactured by Toner Cable Equipment Company. C. Vendor/Contractor may refer to the School District Bid to receive the same price as the District. D. Interconnect and test the Digital Broadcast Headend prior to shipment. 1 Only signal inputs and outputs need to be connected and aligned for proper operation Terminate all trunk lines in 75-ohm devices and provide a power receptacle within 12" of every ITV outlet All feeder lines shall have a 30db return VHF when terminated in 75 Ohm A lightning dissipater is required to be the highest point of the tower. A. Use a Lightning Master Corp. Candelabrum Model CA-48-C, substitution is not permitted (sole source approved by the School Board). Architect s Project Number of 5 Master Television Antenna System
4 2.16 Provide a 20"x20"x6" weatherproof junction box at the base of the tower, installed over the hand hole. A. Provide a quad power receptacle inside this junction box Terminal cabinets shall be 24" x 24" x 6" surface mounted with hinged lockable cover, ½" thick plywood backboard, painted light gray. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 WIRING OF NEW/REMODELED/RENOVATED BUILDINGS A. Use a single feed (parallel output) from the head end to each main classroom building, administration building, cafeteria, media center, and auditorium. 1 Areas such as gym and ancillary buildings will be considered a pass-through feed from adjacent building. 2 Each main classroom building, administration building, elementary school cafeteria, media center, and auditorium shall have an amplifier housed in an 18" x 18" x 6" terminal cabinet and provide tandem (use of taps connected in series) feeds and pass through feeds for multiple floors and adjacent buildings. 3 All multiple outlets will be tandem (in/out). 4 All tandem feeds will be in 1" conduit and all building and pass through feeds will be in 2" conduit. 5 All tandem feeds will be Belden 1694A and all building and pass through feeds will be Belden 7731A. a. Belden 1694A is sole sourced by the School Board, substitutions not allowed. 6 Origination lines will be point (origination) to point (head end) and will be Belden 1694A (under 800') and Belden 7731A (over 800'). 7 Splices not permitted in underground and/or above ceiling pull boxes and junction boxes. B. The norm output of distribution amplifier should not exceed 44 dbmv; this prohibits the BER (bit error rate) from exceeding limitations. C. No cable assemblies (jumpers) can be less than 12" long. D. Trunk lines shall be copper shielded, solid copper core conductor, PVC jacketed, RG6 digital ready equal to Belden number 1694A with Thomas Betts SNS6 (Blue) compression fittings, use tools recommended by the manufacturer. 1 Until underground cable, suitable for wet locations and digital ready, is available, use Belden number 7731A (RG11) with Thomas Betts SNS11 (Black) compression fittings. Use manufacturer recommended tools. E. All couplers, taps, and splitters should be 120 db RFI shielded for digital television. 1 Devices shall be with soldered back plates and labeled digital ready, use Blonder Tongue. 2 Devices with epoxy back plates are not acceptable. F. Signal testing of the head-end and distribution system shall be accomplished prior to contract completion; with or without tower signal source. 1 May use a CATV signal of 175 MHZ to 405 MHZ 2 Test all outlets, including origination outlets. 3 Provide the signal readings to the ITV Department. G. The installer shall have minimum of 5-years successful experience in CATV distribution Cabling. 3.2 ADDITIONAL SPECIFICATIONS Architect s Project Number of 5 Master Television Antenna System
5 A B C D E F G H Weatherproof all outside connectors, including down converter and antenna connectors. No cross-modulation, co-channel, or adjacent channel or any type of interference shall be noticeable at any TV outlet, using a standard color TV set, and viewed by a trained observer. The internal distribution system shall provide signals to each television receiver outlet, on each channel, at levels not less that +6 dbmv, nor greater than +18 dbmv. The C/N (carrier to noise) ratio of the overall MATV system shall not be less than 50 db, measured at the most remote outlet from the main amplifier or the lowest output tap, whichever provides the lowest signal. Conduit from tower top shall be 2" unobstructed PVC to 5" hand hole. 1 Install a 20" x 20" x 6" WP junction box over the hand hole at the base of the tower. 2 Conduit from junction box shall be 2" galvanized pipe, 10' minimum to the pull box. Any substitutions for equipment listed in this specification must have the same degree of repair ability as well as the same technical characteristics or better. 1 School District TEN Department must approve substitutions in writing before installation. Provide a drawing of the grounding system as installed to the Project Manager and a copy sent to the ITV Department. Install a 3" conduit with pull-wire from ITV head-end cabinet to the property for future cable television connection. 1 Verify and coordinate exact location of the conduit termination point at property line with local cable television provider. 3.3 DEMONSTRATION AND TRAINING A B Training of the Owner s operation and maintenance personnel is required in cooperation with the Owner's Representative. 1 Provide competent, factory authorized personnel to provide instruction to operation and maintenance personnel concerning the location, operation, and troubleshooting of the installed systems. 2 Schedule the instruction in coordination with the Owner's Representative after submission and approval of formal training plans. 3 Refer to Section , Commissioning, for further contractor training requirements.
