Bulletin board paper can be obtained from the media center. Doors will be judged on the following criteria: artwork, design is well-executed and clearly depicts the literacy, and originality. Judging begins first period on Thursday. Student participants in the 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd winning classrooms will receive a donut party. School Name: Spruce Creek High School Open the Door to Reading and Spread Literacy One View at a Time: Door Decorating Do you want to win lunch?! Sign-up at the front desk in the media center to decorate a door with a team of up to 5 students. Ask a teacher if you can decorate their door (the teacher will win lunch too). Then decorate! The theme for the doors is Spreading Literacy One View at a Time. Doors will be judged based on creative use of materials, creative interpretation of the theme and connection to the subject area of the classroom. Doors can be decorated starting Thursday 1/24, but they must be complete by the end of lunch on 1/28 to be judged! Do you have books at home that you have already read? Would you like to swap them with other students in order to get new-to-you books? Bring in your books to the media center anytime between now and lunch on Wednesday 1/30. For each book you bring, you will receive a ticket to come back to the book swap to get a book. The book swap will take place during lunch on Thursday 1/31. Teacher Read Aloud and Drop Everything and Read Teachers will be encouraged to spend 5 minutes of each class all day to read aloud their favorite poem or a section from their favorite book and engage in a brief discussion about how that book impacted them. Ask your teachers about their favorite book! Teachers are then encouraged to provide students with time each class period to read a book of their choice. It can be 10 minutes up to the whole period. Ask your teachers if they will be participating! Bookmarks and Posters All students are encouraged to create a bookmark or poster (hand drawn or created on a computer) using any template found online or on plain paper and turn it in to the media center before the end of the day Friday. One bookmark and one poster will be chosen to win a gift card and will be scanned and printed and turned into a bookmark that we will distribute or a poster we will display. Poetry Out Loud Students will compete in the school-wide contest for Poetry-Out-Loud to see who will advance to the state level competition. The contest will take place in the media center immediately after school. Students, parents and the community are welcome! Poetry Out Loud participants will be visiting select classrooms during the day to share their poems with classes. Teachers are encouraged to share their favorite poem with students on this day. Book Swap Students who have contributed to the Book Swap are invited back during lunch to select books from the collection. Literacy Celebration Pajama Party! This all day in-school field trip. Our 100 most frequent readers will be invited to come to the media center for a day of reading, snacks and fun activities!
