There are two elements that make up the process of reading: vocabulary knowledge and text comprehension. In order to understand a text the reader must be able to comprehend the vocabulary used in the piece of writing. A) Read the story carefully. Susy Goes to New York Susy and her family go on vacation. They visit her Aunt Patty. Aunt Patty and her family live in New York. Susy likes to visit them. She likes to play with her cousins, Erik and Lisa. They go to roller skate in the park. They go to the zoo. And, they also go to visit museums. They always have an amazing time together. Next year, Susy will visit again. B) Write the names of the characters in the story. -

The days of the week are a measure of time, there are 7 days in a week, but they can be divided into two categories: weekdays and weekends. There are 5 weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday; while Saturday and Sunday are part of the weekend.

4 C) Find the days of the week. III. Months of the year. A year is divided in 12 months in the modern-day calendar. Months are either 28, 30 or 31 days during a common year, which has 365 days. During leap year, which occurs every 4 years, we add an extra day on February 29 th. The calendar consists on 12 months: January (31), February (28-29), March (31), April (30), May (31), June (30), July (31), August (31), September (30), October (31), November (30), and December (31). A) Write five months of the year.

A noun is a word we use to name a person, place, thing or animal. There are two types of nouns: proper qnd common. A proper noun is a specific name of a person, place, or thing, and is always capitalized. A common noun is the generic name of an item and is not capitalized unless appearing at the beginning of a sentence or title. 7 VI. Verbs. A verb is one of the main parts of a sentence. It signals an action, verbs always express activity. A) Circle the verb in each sentence. 1. The girls talk very loudly. 2. She walks home every day. 3. They run very fast. 4. She cooks delicious pasta. 5. We write sentences in our notebooks. B) Unscramble the verbs. VII. Verb To Be. The verb to be is used to show who or what someone or something is. There are three forms in the present tense: am, is, are. Use am to talk about yourself. Use is when referring to a singular pronoun (he, she, it). Use are with plural pronouns (you, they, we).

12 XII. Adjectives: what a / an. What a / an; we can also use adjectives to express emotion by using what a / an always ending your sentence with an exclamation point (!).
