Transposition Prepared Solo Transpose on sight a simple melody The transpositions ill include: ) Up one hole step ) Don one hole step ) Don a maor sixth ) Don a perfect fifth A solo piano piece at the late eginning or early intermediate level Emphasis is placed on steady tempo as ell as the accuracy of pitches and rhythms Must e approved in advance of the exam Emphasis is placed on overall musicality (Keyoard maors are exempted from this requirement) lass Piano Requirements/Piano Proficiency All music maors (ith the exception of piano maors) are required to enroll in lass Piano (Music / and Music /) to prepare them to pass the Piano Proficiency Examination This examination is usually taken at the end of the fourth semester, ut may e delayed until the student feels they are sufficiently prepared f the exam is delayed the student must continue to e enrolled in the appropriate piano course (Music /) Once the student passes the exam, they are no longer required to take class piano Students ho achieve a partial pass on the exam are required to enroll in Music : Piano Proficiency to continue orking on those components of the exam that they did not pass They must continue to enroll in Music : Piano Proficiency until they pass all components of the exam Students ho have partial passes ill e left on the ooks for a maximum of years from the time they initially ere given the partial pass Once that time expires, they ill have to retake the entire exam Students ho do not successfully complete Music /// ill enroll in a XXX-0 section the folloing term and then re-enroll in the courses they did not complete the folloing semester The XXX-0 sections do not count as an official enrollment for the course BME maors must pass the proficiency exam efore they are alloed to student teach BM maors must pass the exam efore they are alloed to give their Senior Recital
