Creating an Educated Community To Serve Christ and One Another With Integrity and Respect Dear Incoming Second Grade Students and Parents: During the summer, it is very important to read, write, and practice your math skills. You will have three assignments to complete over the summer. Assignment 1: IXL Math Practice Assignment 2: Book report #1 Assignment 3: Book Report #2 You will need to complete your summer work in math using the IXL online math program. Logon information, including your username and password, are included in the BSS summer information packet. If you choose to complete the Summer Math Book instead of the IXL online program, please see the Math Book ordering instructions that are included in the BSS summer information packet. Be sure to practice your math facts, too! Please choose two of your favorite books and write a five-sentence book report for each book using the attached forms. At the bottom or on the back of the page, draw a picture of your favorite part of the book. I will post copies of the book report templates on my BSS web page in case you need extra copies. The two book reports are due on the first day of school. I encourage you to read EVERY DAY and keep a reading log. You can use the reading log I have provided or create one for yourself. The reading log is not required and does not need to be turned in on the first day of school. To experience a wide variety of literature, I encourage students to read different types of books over the summer -- nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, biography, poetry, or anything else you might be interested in reading. Check with your local librarian for suggestions and consider joining your local library s summer reading club! I have included a list of books in case you are looking for suggestions on what to read. I hope you have a wonderful summer. I am looking forward to working with you next year! God bless, Mrs. Fenimore 1417 West Braddock Road Alexandria, Virginia 22302 P. 703.998.4170 F. 703.998.5033 Page 1 of 7
