Hello! Thank you for purchasing my Packet {December and January}! I hope your kids will greatly benefit from a quick review of math and literacy everyday! If you find this packet to be beneficial in your Stef classroom Swanson please take a look at my other months to continue the daily review for your students! This packet can be used in several ways. Early Finishers Work - Homework - Informal Assessment Bell Starters (Morning Seat Work) I use these worksheets as a part of the morning transition in my classroom. After hanging up coats, backpacks, and washing hands students know to go immediately to their desk and begin the daily review worksheet that I have placed on their desk before they arrived. This gives me time to complete the normal everyday things of taking attendance, lunch count, reading notes from StefSwanson home, etc. 2013 Daily Math and Language worksheets are great mini review lessons! These worksheets are intended to be completed independently by students. (Little instruction from the teacher and very few questions from Stefanie the students.) Swanson After introducing these worksheets a few times students should quickly catch on to what is expected. I have purposely designed them to be very repetitive. I have also created them to slowly build student stamina, as well as, increase in skill level. I ve StefSwanson even used the 2013 worksheets as a quick informal/observational assessment. If I notice there is a skill that the majority of the students struggled with that morning I will quickly an impromptu lesson and review it with everyone during morning meeting. StefSwanson 2012

Squiggle Writing: My students love being creative and they love open ended art projects! The squiggle writing encourages students to use their imagination while incorporating writing with students having to label their picture. As the year continues students move from labeling their picture to writing one sentence and eventually two sentences for their squiggle line picture. Students have to use 5 colors or more, as well as, include at least 5 details in their picture. (We talk about details in our writer s workshop.) Giving students expectations on this part of the will hopefully help prevent students from rushing and not completing quality work. Draw a picture and complete the Number Sentence: Students should represent the number sentence with a picture or objects. When I first introduce activity I have students draw ts to represent number quantity. As students become comfortable and fluent with ts I transition them into using tally marks. (We tally marks everyday during calendar time and even so some students really struggle with writing tally marks independently.) An easy way to differentiate the number sentences for students that need a challenge is simply by writing a 1 in front of the bigger number. (For example, 7 + 2 = Put a 1 in front of the seven and make 17 + 2 = for students who need more of a challenge!) Count and Graph: I have my students focus on one sight word a time. They highlight each time they see the word. Then they count how many times they found the word and write the number in the box next to the word under the graph. Last they graph the results. Number Before and After: We have been working on this concept all year during our calendar time! We talk about one more and one less. If this activity is challenging for students model using resources and provide the resources for your students! (Number Lines, 100 s Chart, etc.) This activity is also easily differentiated by writing in the first number for some students and give them a running start. By ing this they can see the pattern and will only need to fill in the last number. I believe the rest of the packet is easy to understand what students are expected to! If you have a question or notice a typo please email me at stefanie69033@gmail.com There is a lot of information in this packet. Let me know if you see a mistake and I will gladly fix it and get you the updated copy! StefSwanson 2012
