SHUSWAP THEATRE SOCIETY! Th e NOVEMBER, 2010 PROMPTER The cast of Chimera relaxes on the set during the successful run of our first play of the season. Those involved report that the whole experience was a true celebration. Thank you to director Peter Blacklock and the cast and crew for bringing us this powerful play by Canadian playwright, Wendy Lill. A satisfied patron, S.K. sent the following email: I thoroughly enjoyed Chimera tonight the characters were believable, the staging was so wonderfully simple yet very effective, and I enjoyed wrapping my proverbial head around the issues raised. Bravo! I tend to be a follower, rather than the leader, when it comes to standing ovations. Several people in my area leaned forward in their seats as we were applauding. I wish I had taken the lead! Entertaining Evening A Red Carpet Event - Saturday, November 20 at 7:00pm What a night this is going to be! For $20 per person you will be treated to a wonderful evening of local entertainment which includes James Murray with Blu and Kelly Hopkins, Tracy Jones duo, Tina Hawkins, Shuswap Theatre Improv and others! Each ticket includes 3 taster tickets which can be used for a taste of local beer or wine from Ovino Winery, Recline Ridge, Larch Hills and Crannog Ales. Your ticket price also includes local tapas and sweet treats with your coffee after the show! Tickets are $20 in advance at SAGA Art Gallery or $22 at the door. If you d like to volunteer to help at this event, please call Monica at 250-833-6100 or email pr@shuswaptheatre.com. Volunteers with their Serving it Right Certificate are needed to serve the beverages. We also need volunteers to act as greeters, ticket takers and to help serve the food and decorate the lobby. Backstage Pass Our annual Open House event was another success. We were pleased to see so many new faces in attendance and feel the buzz of excitement as they discussed the parts of the plays they had seen or that been discussed by the Directors. The musical entertainment led by Peter Blacklock was a wonderful introduction to the musical that he has been writing, hopefully for our 35th Mainstage Season! A special thank you to all our volunteers that evening we can t do events like this without you. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU We are grateful to Scotiabank and Rebecca Marchand for our latest grant. For the second time Rebecca applied for and received a $1000.00 donation through the Scotiabank employee volunteer program. Even though Rebecca now works in Kelowna, her heart is still with Shuswap Theatre! We have also received $1000 from Shuswap Community Foundation to go towards a new Theatre website. Thank you to this wonderful organization. Shuswap Theatre also appreciates the generosity of the two businesses who are sponsoring The Golden Bird - Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union and Lakeside Insurance who each donated $500.! PAGE 2

IT S PANTOMIME TIME! There is magic in the air - so much excitement! A new script - the World Premiere by our own James Bowlby, a new director, Virginia Verma from SHIPWRECKED and TWO GENTS, and a wonderful cast of 20 plus! Maddie Heiser, the evil fairy in MOTHER GOOSE, is playing the principal boy. She is supported by Travis Anderson as Richard, James Bowlby as his mother, the Widow Twankey, Fred Duck as good king Arlice, Uther Radcliffe as the fox (who talks), Bob Gates as the Royal Secretary and also the king of the Golden Horse, Stephanie Roop as the stepmother and many more! Diana Wright's Shuswap School of Ballet is providing dancing mice and the Golden Bird. The musical director is Peter Blacklock, set by John MacVicar, lights by Jim Clayton, sound by Randy Brogden, FOH by Cilla Budda and costumes by the inimitable Ellen Gonella. Poster design is by Lisa Bennett, publicity by Monica Kriese. Sherry Bowlby is the Stage Manager but an assistant stage manager is still needed. Please call producer James Bowlby (250-832-8383) if you can help with this important position. The story is from the Brothers Grimm - the golden apples that belong to King Arlice are being stolen. After several failed attempts, Prince Michael and Richard discover that the thief is a beautiful Golden Bird. The two young men go off in search of the Bird and then, because they don't follow the fox s directions, a series of misadventures occur. Music, silly jokes and dances round out this Christmas romp! The show runs December 9-12 and 16-19, with special evening show times of 7:30pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30pm. DELIGHT IN SHAKESPEARE Join retired Okanagan College English Professor Les Ellenor as he introduces favorite and less well-known dramas by the Bard. On Friday, November 12, you are invited to share in key moments of plays such as Two Gentlemen of Verona, As You Like It, Henry VI part 1, Troilus and Cressida and Titus Andronicus. On Friday, November 26, Les will focus on plays such as The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, Henry VIII, Coriolanus, and Anthony and Cleopatra. Both presentations will take place at the College at 7:00 pm. Les is extremely knowledgeable and always very entertaining. Participants will have a very informative and enjoyable evening. It s been quite some time since Shuswap Theatre had an historian and valuable history is being lost. We are hoping that one of our members will take on this important role. It s one that can be done from the comfort of your own home and is also not very time consuming. The job involves collecting and storing a program, poster, photos and newspaper articles from each show. If you would like to volunteer or for more information, please contact Monica at 250-833-6100 or pr@shuswaptheatre.com.
