The Houston Shakespeare Festival Summer Conservatory is a two and a half week workshop of concentrated instruction in acting, voice and movement. This exciting intensive study will culminate in performances in conjunction with the Houston Shakespeare Festival at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The HSF Summer Conservatory is designed to give high school students: Exposure to rigorous pre-professional training with opportunities to study acting, text analysis, movement, voice for the stage, audition skills, and Shakespearean scansion. One-on-one Master Classes with seasoned professionals who have worked on Broadway, Television and Off-Broadway Knowledge of the basics of stage combat taught by certified Fight Directors Experience working and learning from an AEA professional acting company with the opportunity to perform at Houstonʼs premier Summer Theatre Festival and be seen by over 30,000 spectators Up to 5 pre-reserved tickets to the HSF productions for family and friends When: Wednesday, July 25, 2012 to Monday, August 13, 2012 Where: University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance 133 CWM Center Houston, TX 77204-4016 Dormitories are located on campus Cost: $1400.00, includes room & board on the UH campus $ 800.00, commuter only, includes meals $ 250.00 deposit required* Deadline: June 1, 2012 Applying: Please fill out the application. Since its inception in 1975, HSF has entertained nearly a half million theatergoers with free performances in Hermann Park's Miller Outdoor Theatre. Festival audiences are as diverse as Houston itself, with many people experiencing live theatre for the first time. Now celebrating its thirty-seventh season, the Houston Shakespeare Festival has grown into one of the major events on Houston's summer entertainment calendar. HSF is a recognized Equity theatre. Miller Outdoor Theatre Houston's Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park is unique in the United States, offering an 8-month season of professional entertainment that is artistically excellent, culturally diverse and always FREE of charge to the public. This is the largest "always free" program of its kind in the country. The theatre is located on approximately 7.5 acres of land in Hermann Park, site of the Houston Zoo, the Garden Center and the Museum of natural science. Seating is provided for 1,705 patrons and 20 wheelchair spaces, plus a sloping lawn that accommodates approximately 4,500 more on blankets or lawn chairs.
