7 Lesson 7: Sharps. A Sharp raises a note by a / step. When you see a sharp before a note, play the note that is a / step higher. This is sometimes a black key, but not alays. # #. When a sharp exists once in a measure, it applies for all of the same notes in the same measure. After the barline, the sharp is no longer valid. # # Both are F#s F (not F#). A natural sign cancels out a sharp. # n # #. A key signature at the beginning of a piece indicates hich notes have sharps. The key of G Maor has the note F# in it.
