Aventura City of Excellence School Highlights Middle school students enjoyed a performance by the New World School of the Arts Dancers at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center 7 th grade students volunteered their time to clean up Hollywood Beach 4 th grade students took their annual St. Augustine field trip The National Junior Honor Society sponsored a successful event to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project ACES held the sixth annual Middle School Science Fair. Winners will compete at the district level next month 5 th grade students traveled to Jonathan Dickenson State Park and learned "first hand" about Florida s ecosystems ACES annual spelling bee will take place Thursday at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center There was an overwhelming response to our Thanksgiving food drive. Due to the generosity of our school community ACES was able to donate over 100 Thanksgiving meals to those in need City Commission Elections Terri Holzberg was re-elected and Howard Weinberg and Enbar Cohen were elected to serve a four year term on the City Commission. The City has received offers for the sale of this property. Once evaluated, and if they meet the City s expectations on price they will be submitted to the City Commission for formal action. Major Capital Improvement Projects Status Report Government Center Parking Expansion In Process DERM and MD-Fire have both reviewed the construction drawings and have provided comments that are being addressed by the consultant. Re-submittal is expected no later than December 7, 2012. Once approved, they will be submitted to the City s Building Division. The pre-construction conference will then be scheduled and the Notice to Proceed will be issued at that time. Permit and construction is expected to commence in early January, 2013. Tree relocations from the existing parking lot are complete. Traffic Signal Intersection of NE 185 th & NE 28 th Court In Process. All issues with use of existing easements and the use for traffic signal improvements have been resolved. Presently, we expect a February, 2013 construction start date with an expected four month construction time. Country Club Drive Right Turn Lane at 34 th Avenue In Process. Presently, we expect a January 4, 2013 construction start date. Country Club Drive (Northbound) Road Resurfacing Surveying of Country Club Drive continues. Drawings will be completed the first week of February, 2013. Biscayne Boulevard Decorative Street Lighting Phase III A work authorization for design has been approved. Construction drawings will be completed no later than March, 2013. Cost analysis revealed we can continue the street lights south to NE 182 nd Street from the current terminus located at the Loehmann s Plaza entrance and remain within the 2012/13 budget.
