Australia s and the world s biggest movie magazine. It s the bible for film lovers. Published in Australia since 2001, EMPIRE enjoys access to the sets and talent of the biggest and smallest films produced around the world. From the latest in-cinema releases to the repackaged classics of the big and small screen, plus books and technology, EMPIRE s erudite and hip analysis is not only the last word in film, but the most entertaining.

JAMES JENNINGS EMPIRE AUSTRALIA EDITOR EMPIRE EDITOR Empire is without a doubt the most recognised and respected film publication in the world, its dedicated readership including everyone from passionate movie fans to iconic directors and A-list actors, affording the title exclusive on-set access to huge productions. The reason is simple: Empire knows film, knows its readers and what their particular passions and interests are. Our readers are tech-savvy early adopters who provide an incredibly strong word-of-mouth base for everything from film to streaming and gaming to the latest technological innovations. As a life-long film fan and fan of Empire Australia since its inception it s both a privilege and a joy to be the title s Editor, steering it forward into an exciting new entertainment landscape that s constantly evolving. Empire will confidently evolve alongside it, our loyal readership coming along for the star-studded ride as we continue to deliver the best film, entertainment and tech content in Australia.

EMPIRE EDITORIAL PILLARS PREVIEW (FUTURE FILM AND TV) Empire readers are passionate about being among the first to know about upcoming projects, on the big and small screens. The Preview section opens every issue with teasers, first looks, on-set updates, interviews and concept art from the world s most anticipated film and television, as well as reminders about upcoming events like film festivals and exhibitions. Plus Preview is where Empire grapples with the big (and notso-big) issues in our regular Debate section ( Is Westworld the new Game Of Thrones?, Does the Oscars ignore comedy? ), and questions stars and filmmakers about the nittygritty of their lives in The Grill (what s Octavia Spencer s go-to karaoke song? Gladys Knight s Midnight Train To Georgia. As long as you get the humming parts right, you don t need to hit the high notes. ) Preview is the section to reach early adopters and film fanatics who insist on always being the first to know. ONSCREEN (IN CINEMAS NOW) If it s in theatres during our onsale period, it s in our Onscreen section. (Even if it opened just a little bit before the issue goes on sale.) Film reviews are the heart and soul of Empire magazine always have been, always will be and we re just as serious about tiny indies and limited releases as we are about multiplex-filling tentpoles. But just because we take film seriously, doesn t mean we re in the corner with the chinstrokers grumbling about Eisenstein. All our reviews are engineered to be both deeply informed but also equally appealing to the casual flick-watcher as well as the beret brigade (and as much as possible, spoilerfree). We ve given the coveted five-star rating to films that played on a handful of screens (Embrace) as well as hundreds (Captain America: Civil War.) Onscreen is where Empire readers turn to get our definitive verdict on the latest theatrical releases. FEATURES From the latest and greatest, to retrospectives, to deep-dives into the oddities of the movie world, Empire s feature well is as eclectic and endlessly fascinating as the history of film itself. Empire s global strength means we get access to the world s biggest stars, and on-set exclusives to the most anticipated movies and TV shows. Every month we include the Empire Big Interview, where we really get into it with some of cinema s biggest names, like Viola Davis, Casey Affleck, Tim Burton and Christopher Walken (to name a few recent interviews.) But we also make room for the little guys, like Hollywood eccentric Dennis Woodruff (Google him, you won t be disappointed.) And as well as the hottest new movies, we also explore the history of cinema, like ranking all of Hitchcock s films, or the secret history behind the film that beat Citizen Kane for Best Picture. At Empire, we love movies. And it shows. REVIEW (HOME ENT AND TV) We ve revamped our home entertainment section to include more pages, more reviews and more television. The way people consume media is changing, and we re keeping pace. The Review section is home to all that s new on disc or streaming that month, as well as interviews, retrospectives and exploring the weirder side of the tracks. Instead of covering TV and streaming a couple of times a year, we now include it in every single issue both new release shows, and series that have come to disc that month. Our Viewing Guide is an in-depth look at one new release each month, broken down into 12 essential moments from the film as chosen by a director or star. Our Bingewatch pages are dedicated to overdosing on one type of film (like every Spider-Man film ever.) Start plumping up the couch cushions now, because the Review section has enough home entertainment to keep you on the sofa for weeks.
