INSTRUCTIONS Before use: charge accu, switch JET ON, make self test (see below), understand LEVEL switch and voltages vs. distances to OHline / cable, practice with known voltages and OHlines / cables. Equipment self test with 230VAC. Take JET s head (arrow) to ~0,01m distance from plastic (nonmetal) insulated cable. Use LEVEL = 1 and LED 1, buzzer and vibration must always turn ON (depending on E field s strength). In the field conditions, practice, toggle the LEVEL switch positions for making clear understanding of switch s positions 1, 2, 3 or 4. Always inspect device for any physical damage. In standby mode only ON/OFF and LEVEL LEDs are ON. Once alarm threshold reached, ON/OFF LED turns OFF and ALERT LED turns ON. Additionally LEDs 1, 2 8 come ON as an indication of E [V/m] strength. Both buzzer and vibration turn ON and OFF automatically with reference to factory set sensing threshold (see drawing of field measurement results in the next page, please.). Charge time apprx. 8hrs (empty > full) at +10 to + 30C. Standby time ~50hrs and ongoing alert alarm time ~4 hrs at temperature 0 to +20C. Operation temp 20 to + 30C. Storage 10 to + 30C. Do not drop or damage JET. In the event of physical impact, self test JET with 230VAC, if not Ok do not use JET. Packet IP54
MEASUREMENT PART 1 Voltages and distances matrix Distance [m]: JET <> OH line /cable, indicative Voltage [kv]: AC indication only (not DC) LEVEL: with different voltages vs. distances Approach OHline or non shielded cable by walk. Hold the JET correctly in your hand and LEVEL = 1 is ON. JET starts to react depending on E field s strength. Note the matrix (down right) with voltages, indicative distances [m] and LEVELs (threshold settings do vary by JET type). Start measurement always from remote distance (e.g. 10 30m), have LEVEL = 1 turned on. In case of several parallel OHlines / cables, walk across (under) all the OHlines / cables and markup the JET readings for getting a fair understanding of present voltages. Practice this in before hand with known situation in a grid. During reaction LEDs 1 8 turn ON one by one. Once alert condition is reached, both buzzer and vibration turn ON (thresholds: LEVEL = 1 at LED 2 and LEVELs = 2, 3 and 4 at LED 4). Note: JET does not get broken even though LED 8 signal strength is exceeded. E [V/m] LEDs come ON one by one. Once LED 8 is ON, toggle LEVEL selection 1>2, or 2>3, or 3>4 respectively for getting a reading not exceeding LED 8. Good to know: Capacitive charge on OHlines may vary e.g. 1 10kV. If so, measure it with LEVEL = 1 or 2 turned in. But before measurement make sure that there is no main voltage of 10400kV presence! Always follow safety distances, recommendations and practices. Never touch the line with JET. Use always local grounding measures. Bear in mind, that voltage might be present at mast structures and/or connection bars besides the OHline / cable itself. The grounding cable (e.g. 20kV) on a pole shadows E field vertically under the OHline / cable, JET reading might be erroneous. If so, step a side e.g. 3m for having a better view to OHline / cable. At next page we present an example on measurements in the field. Keep JET 0,5 1m distance from the mast structures. Note that values may vary per site and conditions.
MEASUREMENT PART 2 220kV 400kV note reading, when grounded locally note reading, when not grounded locally 43m 110kV 220kV typically use LEVEL 3 or 4 typically use LEVEL 2 or 3 typically use LEVEL 1 or 2 (when NON powered OHline (charged voltages)). While main power 400kV is ON use LEVEL 4 typically use LEVEL 1 or 2 In this example the main power 400kV is OFF 20m 14m
WARNINGS Improper use of JET can result in electric shock or damage to the device. At all times, follow all safety guidelines presented in this manual and the usual safety precautions used when working with electricity. The voltages that measured with JET are to be considered live and dangerous and are lethal. JET should be used by qualified and sufficiently trained personnel only. JET is only for open wire / cable measurements, not for shielded cables, i.e. metallic shielded ground cables. For measurements, JET must be held correctly in hand. See the picture. JET does not work correctly in e.g. pocket. While being in the field for actions, double check OH line voltage status from the network operation center and leading responsible person at working area. JET may only be used for the nominal AC voltage ranges indicated on the device. The user may be at risk if JET is used at higher or lower voltages than indicated on the device. Do not rely on JET as your sole source of high voltage detection and keep in mind that a risk of getting electrocuted exists always when working near or around power line or cable or other electrical equipment. Always use adequate safety procedures, including sufficiently trained personal and other protective safety equipment when working near or around power line or cable. LEVEL = 1 means the most sensitive and LEVEL = 4 for very strong E [V/m] field indications. Understand and practice with LEVELs. Never put JET into contact with a live power line or cable or other electrical equipment. Follow always the safety working distances to electrical wire/cable. If JET is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired. Do not expose JET to extreme temperatures or high humidity (IP54). Do not attempt to repair JET. There are no user serviceable parts. Opening JET breaches the warranty and patent rights. JET battery has LED indication for low voltage, charge the battery with charger provided with JET. Do not connect JET to e.g. a computer via USB connection. Make equipment self test at least every month with low voltage 230ACV / 50 60Hz. If you are uncertain about how to use JET, do not use it! Ask for further instructions and/or training. Inform about possible malfunctions and disturbances in operations to your supervisor and/or JET seller. Never neglect safety instructions and processes while working with hazardous MV and HV voltages and surrounding!
