Dear Creative Arts Camper, PRESTONWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH CREATIVE ARTS CAMP 2013 We are thrilled that you are auditioning for Little Mermaid Jr.! Join us as all three Prestonwood campuses join creative forces and together dive into the sea and discover the adventures of Ariel and her world. As we look into the many challenges, twists and turns of this famous Disney story, we will also dive deep into God s Word to see what He has to say to us as we face triumphs and disappointments in our world today. Here is some information that will help you be extra prepared for your audition on (circle one) Monday, May 13 (Plano Campus) Tuesday, May 14 (Plano Campus) Monday, May 20 (Dallas Campus) at (fill in time). IMPORTANT: Included in this packet are two identical audition forms. Please complete both audition forms and attach a snapshot to each one. This is crucial to help us cast the show. DANCER We will have a separate dance call each night! If you would like to be considered for a principal dancer or singing/acting roles that also dance, please be at one of the three dance auditions (see dates above) at 6:00 p.m. No beforehand preparation is necessary for dance audition. At the audition, everyone will be taught a combination to perform in groups. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no flip-flops) in which you can easily move. Plan to stay for the entire hour. VOCAL SOLOIST Please choose one of the songs listed below for your audition. The lyrics for each song are included in this packet. Girls: Part Of Your World Poor Unfortunate Souls (ALL solo parts) She s In Love (Flounder s solo) Guys: Human Stuff Under The Sea Les Poissons She s In Love (Flounder s Solo)
Use the lyrics and CD to learn your music. MEMORIZE your song to sing at auditions with the accompaniment track only. Accompaniment tracks will be available at the audition workshop (see information below). If you are unable to attend the workshop, tracks will be available at all campuses the weekend of April 27 28. Please don t mimic the singers on the CD. We want to hear your style! Remember this is a musical we are looking for singers who can sing the song as well as act it! SINGING AND/OR ACTING ROLE Prepare singing audition as stated above. Choose a character from Scene 3, Scene 11, Scene 20, or Scene 14 (included in this packet) and completely memorize all of that character s lines in that scene. Consider attending a dance audition (offered each day) to open possibilities for roles and musical numbers. AUDITION TIPS Personality is a plus! Go overboard! We would rather tell you to tone it down than perk it up! Make sure you are completely memorized and well-rehearsed! Your preparation for your audition shows us that you are committed to doing your best! Most of all, have a good time! We are rooting for you! Optional audition workshop! (Thursday, April 25, 5:00 6:30 p.m., Big City, Plano Campus) Get tips and pointers from our judges for having a great audition! (This workshop is optional.) If you don t get the part you want, remember that you are still a vital part of the big picture and we need you! Little Mermaid Jr. is a true ensemble piece and there is much to learn no matter what role you are given. We are so thankful that you are using your gifts and talents to glorify God! Do your best and let Him do the rest! We pray diligently over our casting and ask God to guide every decision made. IMPORTANT: To be cast as an actor, singer or dancer, you must be available the week before camp: July 22 26. Rehearsals may be in the daytime or in the evening, so you must be available for both. At casting, we will let you know the rehearsal times you will be needed. Because it is impossible to do such a large amount of work in a small amount of time with even one person missing, these are mandatory rehearsals and there are no exceptions. There is an additional costume fee of $30 to $60 (depending on part[s]) for campers who are assigned part(s).

SCENE THREE: FLOUNDER Hey, Ariel! There you are! Just look, Flounder! The sun, the sand isn t it the most beautiful place you ve ever seen? FLOUNDER I dunno, Ariel I m not sure we ought to be up here. Don t be such a guppy! FLOUNDER A guppy?! I m as brave as you are! I m not afraid of anything- What about sharks? FLOUNDER Where?! Oh, Flounder, you really are a guppy! FLOUNDER I am not! Awww.(gives Flounder an affectionate pat on the head). You ll never guess what I found today. Look! (lifts up a large silver serving fork) Have you ever seen anything so wonderful in your entire life? FLOUNDER Wow! Cool! What is it? I don t know but I bet Scuttle will! Come on, I ll race you! FLOUNDER Hey, wait for me! (Scuttle, a seagull, is looking through the wrong end of a telescope)
Scuttle! SCUTTLE (calling to Ariel in the distance) Mermaid off the port bow! Ariel, how you doin kid? (puts down the telescope and sees Ariel up close) Whoa! What a swim! (waving the fork) Scuttle, look what we found! SCUTTLE More human stuff, eh? Lemme see FLOUNDER Can you tell us what it s for? SCUTTLE Wow! This is special, This is very very.unusual. What? What is it? SCUTTLE It s a dinglehopper! A dinglehopper? SCUTTLE Oh, these babies are fantabulous absolutely indispensary. When it comes to dinglehoppers, I m a regular encyclopoodia! SCENE ELEVEN: FLOTSAM Oh, Mistress of the Deep! You ve a visitor (turns to leave) I don t know if-
JETSAM (blocking Ariel s way out) Now, now FLOTSAM Mustn t get cold fins! URSULA Don t be shy, Ariel darling! I I shouldn t be here. Mother died because of you. URSULA Oh, child what happened to your dear mother was a terrible, unfortunate accident- poor soul. An accident? URSULA Of course! I did my very best to save her. You did? But Father told me URSULA The truth is that the ocean wasn t big enough for both your father and me, so he sent me here. And now I see he s driven you away too He doesn t understand me. URSULA Oh, but I do, dumpling. We re so very alike, you and I- gals with ambition! Now, tell me absolutely everything. I m in love with someone. A human. URSULA A prince, I hear. Quite a catch! Well, the answer is simple: you ve got to become human yourself!
Can you do that? URSUAL My dear, sweet child- it s what I live for- to help unfortunate merfolk like yourself. Poor souls with no one else to turn to SCENE TWENTY: KING TRITON You belong to his world now. Thank you, Daddy. Thank you so much. KING TRITON Just remember when you hear the surf roar at night and feel the tingle of salt in the air it s only your father, checking in on his little girl. PRINCE ERIC Ariel! (stops short, seeing King Triton) Who are you? KING TRITON I m her father, King Triton. And you re the human who came to her rescue. PRINCE ERIC With all due respect sir, Ariel is the one who has done the rescuing. GRIMSBY The King of the Sea? And she s his daughter? PRINCE ERIC Does that upset you? GRIMSBY Heavens, no! I m just relieved she s royalty! PRINCE ERIC (to King Triton) Your Majesty? At last, I ve found someone who makes me eager to seize the future and claim my bithright as king. But if I slip out to sea sometimes, I hope she ll be right there beside me. May I have her hand?
SCENE FOURTEEN: KING TRITON Ariel can speak for herself. PRINCE ERIC She can? SEBASTIAN Out of the frying pan, into the fire! The things I do for you, young lady! Now, I should march you right back home to your father so you can be miserable the rest of your life (sighs heavily, shakes head, gives in) It s true. I got no backbone All right, child. I m in. But we got to get that boy to kiss you before it s too late! Now, a few pointers from a clever crab to a little mermaid. You gotta bat your eyes, like this then you gotta pucker your lips, like this Oh that s good! You put those two things together and you got that boy in the palm of your hand
Part of Your World Look at this stuff Isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete? Wouldn't you think I'm the girl The girl who has ev'rything? I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty I've got whozits and whatzits galore (You want thingamabobs? I got twenty) But who cares? No big deal I want more I wanna be where the people are I wanna see Wanna see 'em dancin' Walkin' around on those (Whad'ya call 'em?) oh - feet Flippin' your fins you don't get too far Legs are required for jumpin', dancin' Strollin' along down a (What's that word again?) street Up where they walk Up where they run Up where they stay all day in the sun Wanderin' free Wish I could be Part of that world
Poor Unfortunate Souls I admit that in the past I've been a nasty They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch But you'll find that nowadays I've mended all my ways Repented, seen the light, and made a switch: true? yes.. And I fortunately know a little magic It's a talent that I always have possessed And dear lady, please don't laugh I use it on behalf Of the miserable, the lonely, and depressed (pathetic) CHORUS Poor unfortunate souls In pain In need This one longing to be thinner That one wants to get the girl And do I help them? Yes, indeed! Those poor unfortunate souls So sad So true They come flocking to my cauldron crying "Spells! Ursula, please!" And I help them! Yes I do! Now its happened once or twice someone couldn't pay the price and I'm afraid I had to rake them 'cross the coals yes I've had the odd complaint but on the whole I've been a saint to those poor unfortunate souls
She s In Love Flounder s part: She acts like she don t see me. She doesn t even speak. She treats me like sashimi left over from last week. You see her late at night, tossin in her ocean bed. And she sighs, and swoons, and she s hummin little tunes.. (Mersister: Even has a sort of glow) What on earth could it be? (Mersisters: Any hammerhead can see! That sigh! That flow! That swoon!) Oh No! She s in Love! She s in love See her *fins, how they swish! She s in love! She s in love! See her blush! See her grin! Gotta be love.. Ariel and someone simmin in the sea K I S S I N G! *change of lyric
Human Stuff Say thatcha wanna have a hairdo Like the folds who live up there do That'll flap their wigs! GULL 1: Flop their wigs! GULL 2: Flap! GULL 3: Awwwk! SCUTTLE: Well, you'll look absolutely dandy If you use one of these handy Little thingmajigs! GULL 1: Thingmabobs. GULL 2: Jigs! GULL 1: Bobs! GULL 3: Awwwk! SCUTTLE: Pick up the dinglehopper, just like so Twirl it the way I'm twirling now! Give it a little yank, and there ya go! You're what the call "the dog's meow"! Under The Sea Under The Sea by The Little Mermaid The seaweed is always greener In somebody else's lake You dream about going up there But that is a big mistake Just look at the world around you Right here on the ocean floor Such wonderful things surround you What more is you lookin' for?
Under the sea Under the sea Darling it's better Down where it's wetter Take it from me Up on the shore they work all day Out in the sun they slave away While we devotin' Full time to floatin' Under the sea Les Poissons Les poissons, les poissons How I love les poissons Love to chop and to serve little fish First I cut off their heads Then I pull out their bones Ah mes oui, savez toujours delice Les poissons, les poissons Hee hee hee, haw haw haw With a cleaver I hack them in two I pull out what's inside And I serve it up fried God, I love little fishes, don't you? Here's something for tempting the palette Prepared in the classic technique First you pound the fish flat with a malette Then you slash off their skin Give their belly a slice Then you rub some salt in 'Cause it makes it taste nice
