Page 2 Manager s Corner We love our volunteers! David Kemler General Manager As I write this, the days of summer are swiftly coming to a close. The evenings are cooler and already we are seeing signs of autumn. The past three months have been full of activities. We have participated in the Rose Parade, the Carp Carnival, the Hot Air Jubilee, the Jackson County Fair and the Civil War Muster. We had a float or one or more booths in each. We set up information tables at the Hot Air Jubilee and the Jackson County Fair. At the Civil War Muster we had our St. Vinnie s General Store and for the first time this year our Mother Seton s Tea Room. Each of these venues was staffed for two to seven days. Our most recent event showcased the wonderful, eclectic merchandise that we receive as donations in our stores. In our General Store at the Muster we sell vintage and antique items to reenactors and others who are looking for period pieces at discount prices. Our tea room featured rentable items from our Borrowed Blessings merchandise. A Victorian tea was served in the tea room on Saturday and Sunday. Costumed servers offered tea, lemonade and cookies. None of these activities would have been possible without the efforts of our wonderful volunteers. Each of these events required the labor and time of dozens of our dedicated friends of St. Vincent s. From the setting up of tents, tables and stocking merchandise to sewing costumes and washing dishes our volunteers were the best! Another volunteer activity this summer was our community garden. Although did not have the number of workers this year we ve had in the past we have still harvested considerable amounts of lettuce onions, tomatoes, peppers and potatoes from our garden. Soon we will be cleaning up our garden site for next year, an activity that requires many hands. On September 9 we will host our annual Sale-A- Bration. This combined sale and appreciation event will acknowledge efforts of our many volunteers, paid staff and faithful customers. Come join us for good food, fun and great sale prices! Our next big event we be our Priceless Gift Toy Store. This annual holiday toy giveaway is in partnership with Together We Can Make a Difference. Collection of toys begins on October 2. Our new site is located at 1000 E. Porter Street. Can you help make a difference to over 4500 children this Christmas? Would you be willing to sponsor a toy or hygiene product collection at your church, school, workplace or club? Would you be willing to sort and clean toys? Could you work in the toy store from November 24th to December 15th? Would you be willing to make a meal for volunteers or cookies for shoppers? We are always on need of extra volunteers on our stores. Our amazing workers sort donations, stock merchandise, dress the windows, and do maintenance projects. Our volunteers range in age from school age to in their 90s! Some of our wonderful friends are disabled so while they might limited physically there is no limit to their devotion to the ministry of the Society of! If you are interested in volunteering in our stores or at one of these events please contact us at the stores or through our website or Facebook page. Would you like to help?
