TASK 2 Read what the three students write about moving to a new place. Answer questions 9-15. Tick ( ) the correct boxes. Abebe I came to the UK last year, and now I live in Leeds. Life here was very hard for me at the beginning. It was difficult for me to do the shopping, take the right bus or train and I didn t have many friends. After two months I joined an English class. That helped me a lot to make friends. My teacher tells me my English is now excellent. I live in a small flat on my own. My parents live in a flat opposite mine so I see them all the time. They hate the English weather, but I don t think it s as bad as that. Wang Xuan I moved to Leeds two months ago. It often rains here, but I like it! It rains a lot in my town in China too. There are lots of buses and trains in Leeds, so it isn t a problem for me to get around town. I don t like buying my food in the shops here in Leeds because there are always too many people. I don t speak much English. I live alone. Sometimes I see my neighbours in the street, and they talk to me in English, but I don t always understand what they say. I want to take English lessons. Maybe this will help me make some new friends. Zeynab I come from Somalia. Now I live in Leeds. I came to the UK two years ago with my husband and our daughter. I really like it here. We live in a small flat and we have very nice neighbours. I am doing a language course, so my English is much better now. But there are two things I really hate about Leeds: the cold weather and public transport the buses are always late! I have got a job in a supermarket. I quickly made some good friends there. I think working with people is a very good way to meet people when you move to a new place. Which of the three students 9 came to Leeds this year? 10 lives with his/her family? 11 still has bad English? 12 had big problems when he/she moved to Leeds? 13 still hasn t got any new friends in Leeds? 14 doesn t like the weather in Leeds? 15 thinks public transport in Leeds is good?
