What is CineMagic? CineMagic is a performing arts program sponsored by the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation (PVEF) and Pleasant Valley School District (PVSD), for Camarillo students in grades 3-8. Participation in the program requires no prior experience, only the desire to participate and perform in CineMagic. Under the program s professional direction, your children will have the opportunity to develop new talents, gain confidence and make new friends while preparing to perform in a large theater venue. Through CineMagic, PVEF & PVSD provide standards-aligned performing arts instruction which the schools can no longer afford. Respected studies show that students highly involved in the arts earn better grades, score better on standardized tests, and perform more community service. Participation in arts programs like CineMagic increases the self-confidence, creativity, academic, and civic engagement of Camarillo's children. Why Participate in CineMagic? CineMagic is a comprehensive musical theatrical production, which provides students with a fulfilling activity in a safe, nurturing environment where differences are valued and celebrated. Throughout their experience, your children will be taught to take direction and focus on specific tasks, build team-working skills, overcome shyness, increase self-confidence and develop stage presence. By developing their talents in singing, dancing and acting, CineMagic participants acquire lifetime skills of leadership, communication, discipline, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. 3 P age

Expectations of CineMagic Participants Attend all assigned rehearsals and performance dates. Arrive on time and be prepared to get picked up on time. For liability reasons, children are not allowed to walk home by themselves, unless a signed release is on file. Listen to your music on the CD at home and memorize the words. Follow the instructions of your directors and assistants during rehearsals. Don t commit to other practices or activities during your CineMagic rehearsal time. Be respectful to staff, DITs and other cast members before, during, and after rehearsals. If rehearsals are continually disrupted due to your actions, your parent(s) will be asked to attend all rehearsals to monitor your behavior. Call your Song Captain if you have an emergency and will have to miss a rehearsal. Cast members are required to wear closed-toed shoes that stay on the feet for dancing. No flip flops, sandals, heels, or wheelies. No gum or food allowed in the rehearsal room. Water is okay. Your name should be written on all items you bring to rehearsals. Keep the rehearsal areas clean. All electronic items are NOT ALLOWED during rehearsals. Phones will be kept in a basket with a parent volunteer during rehearsals. We have had too many disruptions with performers always checking their phones or texting during rehearsal times. If your phone rings a parent volunteer will find you to take the call if it is an emergency. Rehearsals are only a few hours a week and we need everyone s undivided attention during this time period. If there is a reason you need to keep your cell phone on you during rehearsals, we need in writing from a parent the reasons. Parents and participants must sign a contract agreeing to these behavior expectations at registration. EXPECTATIONS OF CINEMAGIC PARENTS ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD ATTENDS ALL REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES. Ensure your child arrives on time and is picked up on time. Organize your child s schedule so there are not conflicts with any other activities. Please make sure your child is reminded to be respectful to staff, DITs and other cast members before, during, and after rehearsals. If your child continually disrupts the rehearsal time, you will be asked to attend all of their rehearsals to monitor their behavior. Be an active Volunteer in the Program. 11 P age
