Rules of Procedures Journées de Musiques Anciennes International Competition Article 1: object The Tourmaline Association, producer of the festival Journées de musiques anciennes, organizes the Journées de musiques anciennes International Competition. The competition is open to young instrumental and vocal ensembles whose repertoire is dedicated to music from 1350 to 1650. The competition will take place in 3 parts: a pre-selection from applications sent, the semi-finals and finals which are opened to the public. At the end of the pre-selection, the pre-selection committee will select 8 ensembles. They will compete in front of a jury composed of esteemed persons from the musical world on November 15th, 2017. 4 selected ensembles will participate in finals on November 16th, 2017. The Tourmaline Association reserves the right to interrupt, to delete or to postpone the competition, at any time, without notice and without being held liable in any way. In such an evenuality, no participant can make in any capacity complaints for whatsoever. The Tourmaline Association reserves the right to modify the rules of procedure of the Competition. Article 2: participation The Competition is opened to all the instrumental and vocal music ensembles performing music from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The average age of the members should not exceed 35 years on the date of finale, and be living in France or abroad. The ensemble can consist of a maximum of 6 people. Solo performance is accepted but no accompanist is provided. Applications will be accepted from June 1st, 2017 until October 8, 2017. Ensembles accepted for the Semi-Final will be displayed on a special page of its website dedicated to the Competition. Registration is made online or by sending a filled out registration form, accompanied by the administration fee. Only fully complete applications will be examined.
Article 3: registration form Candidates can apply by filling out the registration form available on-line on the website of the Festival, on the page dedicated to the Competition before October 8, 2017. A single musician can only perform in a maximum of two ensembles registered for the competition. The registration will have to include: - A fully completed registration form - A clearly legible photo of the ensemble (300 dpi min. jpg format - An individual CV for each musician and a copy of their ID card or passport (100 dpi pdf or jpg format) - A short history of the ensemble and its activities (can be written in French or English) - An audio file (30 minutes in mp3 format), containing a work or a set of works representative of the musical activity of the candidates. Full details must be given (ie composer, title, key, manuscript name or edition). This recording must be representative of the theme of the competition (music between 1350 and 1650) and be taken from a live recording, made in one track without cuts. - A proposed programme for the Semi-Finals (20min) and Finals (30min) - The payment of the registration fees (45 ) Payment can be made either by transfer, or by cheque. These expenses are not refundable, even in case of withdrawal or if the ensemble is not selected. The expenses of exchange and transfer are chargeable to the candidate. The registration will be validated only once receipt the payment, at the latest on October 8, 2017. The formats accepted for the recording are: CD / DVD, audio file sent by a download link (dropbox, WeTransfer, Soundcloud, etc.) The registration form should be addressed to: - By post to, 27, rue Jean-Baptiste Potin 92170 Vanves or - By e-mail in concours@journees-musiques-anciennes.org Article 4: jury The jury is composed of at least 5 recognized personalities of the musical world chosen by the direction of the competition with complete autonomy.
The president of the jury is appointed by the direction of the competition or elected by the members of the jury. The jury deliberates at the end of every part. The jury reserves the right not to award all the prizes. The jury reserves the right to stop the candidate in the course of execution. In case of dispute, the vote of the president shall be decisive. The decisions of the jury are sovereign and without appeal. Because of his participation in the competition, every competitor makes a commitment to accept it and not to dispute it. Article 5: awards Competition Prizes: - 1st prize: - 3000 - A concert on 2018 Journées de musiques anciennes anciennes festival - The direction of the Competition will insure the promotion of the prize-winner by guaranteeing him at least 1 commitment of a concert within a renowned festival. The prize-winner makes a commitment to make every effort to honor the concerts which will be proposed to him - 2nd prize : 1500 ; Article 6: competition schedule Only complete applications will be examined. 6.1 Pre-selection The pre-selection Committee, established by Carine Moretton as well as by two personalities indicated by the association Tourmaline, will meet for the listening of the recordings. A maximum of 8 participants will be selected for the semi-final. The candidates will be informed by e-mail of their selection in semi-finals at the latest on October 10th, 2017.
The selected ensembles will then have to send by e-mail (concours@journeesmusiques-anciennes.or g) before October 20th, 2017: - a high-definition color photo of the group in jpg format; - the detailed programs (composer, title, key, manuscript details or the edition) which they will play for the semifinals and finals. 6.2 - Semi-finals The semi-finals will take place on November 15h, 2017 from 11 AM in the auditorium of Hachette Livre, 58, rue Jean Bleuzen 92170 Vanves. Semi-finals: the programme must have a total duration of 20 mins (including entrance, speaking, program, exit). The played program will have to be in compliance with the program proposed in the registration form. Any overtaking of time will be penalized. 4 participants maximum will be admitted to the finals. A rehearsal room will be made available for the candidates 90 mins before their performance. No instrument will be provided. The running order will be determined by means of a random draw. 6.3 - Finals Finals will take place on November 16th, 2017 from 6 PM in the auditorium of Hachette Livre, 58, rue Jean Bleuzen 92170 Vanves. For Final, the program will have a total duration of 30 mins (including entrance, speaking, program, exit) and be in connection to the theme of the festival: "exile(s)". The performed program will have to be in compliance with the program proposed in the registration form. Any over-running of time will be penalized. A rehearsal room will be made available for the candidates 90 mins before their performance. No instrument will be given. The running order will be determined by means of a random draw. The name of the winning ensemble will be publicly announced at the end of the competition, then published on the web site of the festival.
Article 7: general Conditions 7.1 Expenses incurred by the candidate Travel and accommodation expenses of the candidates shall be borne solely by the candidates. However, the prize-winner ensemble, scheduled for the concert on 2018 will be taken care of financially (accommodation, meal). It is specified that any recording media, and, more widely, any documents sent to the association Tourmaline within the framework of this Competition will not be returned to the candidates. 7.2 Responsibility, complaints The Tourmaline association cannot be liable for any loss thefts or damages in the personal belongings of the candidates. Every participant guarantees the Tourmaline association against any appeal or complaint that could be exercised against him because of its participation in the Competition. Use of photocopies of the score are forbidden (law of 11/3/57 penal code art. 425). 7.3 Audio extracts and communication Because of their participation in the Competition, the candidates authorize free of charge and in advance the Tourmaline association to use their name, first name, pseudonym, image and address without limitation nor reserve other than the case planned in the article 7.4 below and without it confers them a right for a remuneration or for an any advantage, during all the duration of the Competition and for period which could not exceed a duration of 2 years as from the Competition s closing. So, the Tourmaline association can freely publish on its web site the name of the winner as well as the names of the participants and the titles of the interpreted music. Furthermore, the prize-winner participating in the concert authorizes gracefully the Tourmaline association to allow the sound and video recording of the concert and use it on any communication medium including on the web site or that of their media partners.
Article 7.4 Personal data The Tourmaline Association will set up a system of preservation of the contributions sent by the participants to the present competition, as well as their personal data allowing a control in case of complaint. Having regard to amended Act No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978 relating to information technology, files and freedoms, the candidates have a right to access and correct all personal information concerning them and can ask that their address and phone number are deleted and not transmitted to third parties. For any request concerning their personal data, the participants can send a mail mentioning the object of their request, their address and phone number to the following address: Tourmaline association, 27 rue Jean-Baptiste Potin 92170 Vanves. 7.8 Applicable law The "Concours international des Journées de musiques anciennes" takes place exclusively in Metropolitan France. Accordingly, the French law is only applicable to it, in particular for any dispute which would come to be born because of the present Competition or which would be directly or indirectly bound to this one. The French version of the rules of procedure will have only legal and official value. Article 8: acceptance of the regulation The participation in the Competition takes the full and whole acceptance of the entire clauses of the present regulation. The participants give up any appeal concerning the conditions of organization of the Competition, its progress, as well as its results.
