Playhouse News Meeting Bites - December 2017 Treasurer SVP is still due Somerset County Cultural Heritage Commission s grant money. Paula Windus had talked to Pat McGarry since last month s meeting and was assured that the 2016 check was coming. The final report for the 2017 grant is due December 28 and then that check will be released. Marketing & Sales Outgoing VP Todd Bennington and incoming VP Roberta Steve have met and are working on transitioning the position. Roberta is now the administrator for the Facebook page and is in the process of putting together packages for 2018 sponsorships. Bic Truitt, a communications professor at Raritan Valley Community College, would like to establish internships with SVP for his students. Petrock s Bar & Grille will be sponsoring Love, Lies, and the Doctor s Dilemma, and JML Landscaping will sponsor California Suite. Sponsorships are needed for the rest of the 2018 season s shows. Todd thanked Crystal for designing the 2018 season bookmark. They have been picked up and placed in the lobby, in the programs for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and at Petrock s. Production Auditions for California Suite are December 19 and 21, Calendar Girls auditions are February 19 and 20, and Grand Hotel auditions are March 4 and 5, with call backs the next Saturday, March 10. Old Business SVP shirts for sale. It was suggested that a larger sign is needed and that an actual shirt being displayed might help sales. There are still some 50 th Anniversary glasses available. It was agreed to publicize the fact that they may be bought for $5 each while supplies last. New Business Possible uses for the line of credit: One possibility would be a new curtain (Mike is getting a quote from Rose Brand). Brent suggested a new lighting board is needed. A more immediate need is a replacement back-up drive for the lighting board. The cast of Page 3

Playhouse News 2018 Brings The Opening of SVP s SVP 51st Season The SVP Board of Directors has formally announced the 2018 schedule. We think the slate of productions will have something for all of our diverse audiences, said President Emily M. Windus. We had such a fantastic 50th anniversary season, we want to build on that momentum in 2018. Our 2017 season included two New Jersey premiers and garnered 18 nominations for the NJACT Perry Award recognition, including one win. We re confident that shows we ve selected for 2018 will continue our tradition of quality live performances made accessible and affordable for the Hillsborough community and beyond. The season kicks off on January 19, 2018, with the comedy Love, Lies, and the Doctor s Dilemma. That production is followed by California Suite (March 2), Calendar Girls (April 20), Grand Hotel The Musical (June 8), Cheaper by the Dozen (July 20), Smokey Joe s Café The Songs of Leiber and Stoller (September 7), Wait Until Dark (October 19), concluding with the holiday show A Seussified Christmas Carol (November 30). SVP Wine Glasses Available There are a few SVP anniversary wine glasses left (given to attendees of the October 14th anniversary dinner) which we are offering for sale, for $5 each, while supplies last. The glass is an 8 oz. stemless wine glass engraved with: Somerset Valley Players 50th Anniversary 1967-2017 The glasses have many other uses besides wine drinking! Contact Paula Windus if you are interested (paulawindus@ verizon.net or 908-526-7150). Page 4 SVP s SVP Vice President of Production, Todd R. Bennington, said, We couldn t have asked for a more balanced season. Patrons can choose between shows inspired by popular movies, such as Calendar Girls and Grand Hotel. Or enjoy Broadway smash hits like California Suite, Smokey Joe s Café and Wait Until Dark. For good measure a hilarious farce, Love, Lies, and the Doctor s Dilemma will help everyone start the year off with a good laugh, Bennington continued. Our commitment to feature family friendly shows is one of our missions, he said. Introducing young audiences to the magic of live theater is something we love to do. Our summer show, Cheaper by the Dozen is based on a true story about a large family that lived in Montclair, New Jersey, and A Seussified Christmas Carol will be a delightful way for families to celebrate the year-end holidays. Windus added Because we are truly a community theater, we thank our volunteers and the individual and business sponsors whose support ensures that we can continue to bring the art of theater to local audiences.
