TASTY Q S HAND-PICKED FRINGE PROGRAMME
Theatre // Dance Storytelling // Comedy Music // Multimedia Interdisciplinary // Visual Art Talks // Ideas
Welcome to the wonderful world of TASTY/FRINGE. Fringe Festivals are awesome platforms to present original work, test new ideas, build audiences and be part of a community. TASTY/FRINGE is Q Theatre s fringey programme. We aim to create an accessible, supportive and professional experience, enabling your big fringe dreams to come to life. Dates you need to be all over: TASTY/FRINGE Submissions // Open September 7 th & close September 30 th Festival Dates// February 21 st to March 11 th
TASTY/FRINGE curating framework: Context & clarity of ideas; fringe festivals are the perfect time to do that non-narrative, form busting German inspired piece wearing only corn husks (and hey that obviously sounds amazing!) BUT in your submission you need to be able to articulate what you re aiming to present and how you re going to do it. Bar-raising; the point of coming to Q is to work in a professional context, the content can be fringey as hell but we re looking for quality presentations that raise the bar for the artists & designers involved. Deliverable; the show must go on, if you re not good at planning get someone who is. Keep in mind on a performance night you ll need to be able to pack in within 15 minutes and out within 15 minutes. Plans + Teams = Awesome. Audience Reach; at the end of the day we re a venue, we need people through the doors to keep them open. We re looking for projects that clearly outline how they ll attract an audience and do so with a realistic budget. But hey it is fringe, be creative, yes posters and flyers but what else?

The low - down: TASTY/FRINGE is curated, so that means we won t pick everything. To be cost effective we ll be double + triple bill-ing performances. Therefore ticketed shows can be no more than 60 minutes long. Limited storage space is available for set pieces, so be creative. Turnaround time between performances is tight. Like reeeeal tight. You ll have approximately 15 minutes to pack in and another 15 minutes to pack out. All hands on deck, people! Q Theatre operates our own ticketing. It s a delicate balance setting prices that are accessible for audiences but not ruinous for you, so let s discuss pricing together.
What s in it for you? We ve created some tasty venue hire packages for ticketed seasons. By being part of TASTY/FRINGE, you ll get access to: A professional venue. TASTY/fringe gives you the opportunity to present work at Q a fraction of our standard rates, by using a festival model (eg: double and triple bills). Yes, it means you get limited time to pack in and out but it s great practice for Edinburgh, right?! Production Coordinator. A dedicated tech and production wizard will help you navigate through all things schedule and equipment related. Venue Technician. During your pack-in a dedicated VT will help you settle in, keep you safe and support you in making the most of our unique venues. Once the seasons are up, we will have one VT on site to look after the building and keep the shows ticking along. Operators. Finding an operator for a fringe show can be tricky, especially when you re running on the smell of an oily rag (ew). So, our Venue Hire Packages include an operator. If you have heaps of complicated sound or AV you may need additional crew, but we can sort that out later. You ve got your own operator? Cool beans, bring them along. Gear. Sound + lighting = sexy theatre. Marketing advice. Q s Marketing Coordinator will help you on your marketing journey, providing advice and useful resources. Promotional opportunities. You can promote your show on Q s digital screens on Queen Street & in Lounge and by making the most of the many poster placements around Q.
