2017 FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA AGREEMENT FORM VIOLIN - VIOLA - CELLO - BASS ABOUT THE CHICAGO YOUTH IN MUSIC FESTIVAL The Chicago Youth in Music Festival is a celebration of young classical musicians from across Greater Chicago. It is produced by the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in partnership with the city s leading community music schools and youth orchestra programs. The 2017 Festival will take place in February, and March, bringing together young people for extraordinary musical experiences at Symphony Center and in schools and communities throughout the city. Artistic leadership for the 2017 CYMF is provided by Chicago Symphony Orchestra Zell Music Director Riccardo Muti, Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma, and musicians of the CSO and Civic Orchestra, including the Civic Fellows. Participation in the Festival and all related events are offered free of charge and target diverse audiences across Chicagoland. THE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA The Festival Orchestra is an advanced ensemble comprised of young musicians in grades 7-12 who are students at a CYMF partner organization. Members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago serve as string principals. As preparation for an open rehearsal in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center with CSO music director Riccardo Muti on Monday, February 13, 2017, the Festival Orchestra will have preparatory rehearsals with Civic Orchestra Principal Trombone Jay Friedman. Repertoire for the open rehearsal with Maestro Muti will be Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition (arr. Ravel). ELIGIBILITY Eligible Festival Orchestra string players are advanced musicians in grades 7-12 who are enrolled at one of the following partner organizations: Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, DePaul School of Music Community Music Division, Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Hyde Park Suzuki, Merit School of Music, Midwest Youth Artists, Music Institute of Chicago, New Music School, and/or Sherwood Community Music School at Columbia College Chicago. String players are admitted to the 2017 Festival Orchestra based exclusively on recommendations by program directors of the CYMF partner organization that serves as their primary music school or youth orchestra. SCHEDULE In order to participate, Festival Orchestra members must attend the entirety of all dates listed below. All activity will occur at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60604.
