2017-18 SCISA SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL Event: Thursday, March 15, 2018 DEADLINE: January 12, 2018 USC School of Music, 813 Assembly Street, Columbia SC The spring Music Festival involves over 1,100 talented students from SCISA member schools. It is NOT required that a school has a music or band program in order for students to participate! Any individual students from SCISA Member Schools are allowed to participate. All students will receive a participation certificate. Students will receive a 1 (Superior/Gold) 2 (Excellent/Silver) or 3 (Good/Bronze) rating from the judge and will be eligible to purchase a Gold, Silver, or Bronze music medal according to their rating. Medals are $5 each makes checks payable to SCISA. INSTRUMENTAL Solo: Elementary, Middle, High School: Limit of 3 students per division Small Ensemble: Defined as 5 to 14 students Limit of one ensemble per division Large Ensemble: Defined as 15 or more students Limit of one ensemble per division PIANO/ORGAN Piano Solo: Elementary, Middle, High School Limit of 3 students per division Organ Solo: Middle and High School Limit of 3 students in MS and HS VOICE Solo: Elementary, Middle, High School Limit of 3 students per division Small Ensemble: Defined as 5 to 14 students Limit of one ensemble per division Large Ensemble: Defined as 15 or more Limit of one ensemble per division A student that acts as an accompanist is considered to be in the performance Accompanists are not provided by USC or SCISA No Audiences - No Parents A student may perform in no more than 2 events Accompanists are limited to 3 events GUIDELINES VOICE OR INSTRUMENTAL SOLO: A. Time limit - 8 minutes. B. One or two selections of published works. C. One original copy with numbered measures for judge. VOICE OR INSTRUMENTAL SMALL ENSEMBLE: A. Time limit - 8 minutes. B. Two selections of published works. C. One original copy with numbered measures for judge.

VOICE OR INSTRUMENTAL LARGE ENSEMBLE: A. Time limit - 20 minutes. B. Two or three selections of published works of contrasting styles. C. One original copy with numbered measures for judge. KEYBOARD: A. Time limit - 10 minutes. B. One or two selections of published works. C. One original copy with numbered measures for judges. OTHER: Judges must have an original copy of the music. If an original copy is not available the school must provide proof of purchase from a music dealer or publisher and a statement to that effect must be attached to the copies for the judges. Works chosen should be selected for the purpose of displaying the full range of the student s technical skill and interpretive ability. The student must provide his/her own accompanist. (if needed) The use of CDs or tapes for accompaniment is NOT permissible. Any repeats NOT taken should be noted in the score. STUDENTS MUST PRESENT ADJUDICATION FORM(S) TO JUDGES AT THE TIME OF THEIR PERFORMANCE. Forms will be sent to SPONSORS along with schedules and may be duplicated as needed. Runners will collect forms from each room throughout the day and teachers (or students, with teacher s permission) will claim them from the SCISA Staff in the lobby.
