Fall 2017 Acting Audition Information Packet
Students who attended a Pre-Audition in Week 15 of the Summer 2017 semester do NOT need to audition again on MONDAY of week 1 for first round auditions. Those who receive a callback for a specific production must be available for all callback dates as scheduled. ADVANCE SIGN UP REQUIRED FOR AUDITIONS Sign up for auditions in DRESSING ROOM A (Located at the back of the Tower building) SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15th 12:00pm-5:00pm MONDAY, OCTOBER 16th 10:00am 5:00pm NOTE: ALL students who did not early audition and wish to audition for the BFA Play, Blackbox Acting or Play Reading MUST sign up for an audition time slot! Auditions for all projects will be held on, Monday, October 16, 2017 in 8W starting at 7:00pm. Check-in on Monday night will begin at 6:50pm in 11E. Upon completion of the first round auditions, production will post a callback notice on the Production Board behind the Tower building. Callbacks will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2017 through Sunday, October 22, 2017, depending on the project. Times and locations are TBD and will be posted with each callback post. CASTING: Casting notice will be posted on the Production Bulletin Boards by Monday, October 23, 2017. HOW TO PREPARE: All students MUST submit an ELECTRONIC AUDITION FORM prior to your audition. (Link sent to your AMDA Email). NOTE: There is nothing needed to bring, and no headshots/resumes will be collected. Students should prepare two 1-2-minute contrasting monologues: one classical, one contemporary (comedy or drama; your choice for both). Please know that everyone will perform one of their monologue choices, however you will only perform the 2 nd if asked. Be prepared: monologues extending beyond one minute may be cut off. If possible, you should have read the scripts (for play and staged readings) prior to attending auditions. A limited number of scripts are available to read in the library, located on the third floor of the Tower Building. Commitments: You must be able to fully commit to the rehearsal and performance dates as listed in order to be cast in any of the Acting Productions. Please read the information carefully. To be fair and set professional standards, anyone who is eventually cast will sign a contract on the first night of rehearsal stating that you are aware of all production policies and that personal schedule conflicts in addition and beyond what you tell us at the auditions will NOT be honored. If you cannot attend all scheduled rehearsals, you will be replaced. Regarding Casting: An important foundational component of AMDA training lies within the multiple and diverse Performance Opportunities offered to our students from Plays to Musicals to Black Box, Readings, Artists Lab, etc. Our hope is that every student will take full advantage of the varied opportunities and participate in as many as possible. Non-traditional casting policies apply at AMDA and therefore all students should feel welcome to audition for any/all roles. A special note about the BFA Play and BFA Musical - Due to the fact that these are published properties with very specific, prescribed, and often limited, lead/feature roles, AMDA s philosophy regarding repeat casting : Once a student has been cast and performed in 2 consecutive lead roles for a BFA Play and/or BFA Musical, that student will be more likely considered for non-lead/featured roles and/or for other production categories in subsequent semesters. AMDA s goal is to cast shows in a manner that will allow for as many deserving students as possible to have a chance at performing within our productions.
