The New Garrick Gazette Garrick Theatre Club Inc. 16 Meadow Street, Guildford, WA 6055 PO Box 122, Guildford WA 6935 www.garricktheatre.asn.au EDITOR: TOM GOODE PRINTED BY DOCUPRINT Issue No. 543 APRIL 2017

A Word from the Club President Ken s Kolumn Hi one and all, This year is certainly speeding ahead, with a lot happening at the moment. Last month, we successfully engaged with the Guildford Heritage Festival, looking to promote greater awareness of Garrick in the local community. We set about encouraging new members to join us, and people to come to see our productions. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help, and especially to Gary & Hannah, two of our newest members who helped both getting our tent constructed & packed up on the day. Gary is on board as our New Maintenance Manager. Our first season of the year Cinderella has now finished. Thanks to Rob, Cassidy and their Cast & Crew for putting on the show. Lots of positive feedback was given to us and Cinderella will never be thought of as just a fairy tale for many people. I took a well-earned week off down south with family this month, and thanks to Tom Goode, our Vice President, filling in for me as I relaxed for a while. Take care, and see you soon. Ken Harris:- Club President. Garrick Birthday Historical Note 80 years ago (From the pages of the West Australian ) The opening of the Guilford Garrick Club for 1937 was held on the lawn of Mr H R Hillman s home at South Guildford on Tuesday evening, when a large audience of members and their friends enjoyed the presentation of three one-act plays, The Apricot Tree and Square Pegs by Clifford Bax, and A A Milne s The Princess and the Woodcutter. The casts included Miss Dancer and Messrs. Gibbons and Frank Johnson in The Apricot Tree, produced by Mrs Dancer; Miss Jessie Johnson and Mrs A Todd in Square Pegs, under Mrs Palmer s direction; and Mr Hillman produced the Milne play with Miss Betty Hillman and Mr Keith Murray in the title roles, supported by an able cast. The colourful old-world costumes and garden background made a pleasing effect. Next month we are celebrating Garricks 85 th Birthday on the 6 th of May. Bookings are essential Contact Elaine 9378 1990

Celeste had taken up a new teaching position and needed to devote all her energies to that task. We thank her for her contribution and wish her well. Fortunately willing replacements stepped forward and we welcome Robert Vincent and Caitlyn Roberts to the committee. Robert will continue with his current portfolio while Caitlyn picks up TAG liaison. Not Doing So Well: We were sorry to hear that Di Graham had been involved in a motor vehicle accident and had to be treated in hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Production Notes Cinderella Retelling the universally known fairy tale was a challenge well-met by the director, cast and crew whose teamwork and rapport resulted in a thoroughly enjoyable theatrical performance. In addition to providing entertainment to Garrick s usual high standards, the club benefited from the introduction of novice members to the roles of Stage performers; Lighting Operators and Stage Management.
