Gordon Jeffery A Tribute to his Musical Legacy Welcome to the 30th Anniversary season of The Jeffery Concerts eight captivating concerts, each showcasing some of the world s finest classical musicians and paying glowing tribute to an extraordinary music-lover and benefactor. This is truly a season to remember join us! ARTHUR ROWE, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR A lawyer from the founding family of the London Life Insurance Company, Gordon Jeffery was an active organist, conductor, and a passionate collector of exceptional historic instruments and rare musical scores. An avid student of Baroque and Classical performance practice he enabled past and present Londoners to experience decades of live concerts given by world-renowned artists in his restored former London Town Hall of 1882. In 1987 provisions in his will continued Mr. Jeffery s mission to provide chamber music to our community s cultural life, by his naming a Trust to establish the Aeolian (later Jeffery ) Concerts. Substantial assistance was later provided for a new concert venue, the in London s Public Library. The Gordon Jeffery Music Foundation strives to continue supporting excellence in live performances and music education in our community. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary legacy! jefferyconcerts.com 2 3

CALGARY HERALD A Commitment to Education In his lifetime Gordon Jeffery was committed to enriching the musical education of students in London, often anonymously assisting promising young musicians. Throughout his life and through his estate, he generously provided deserving students with instruments, performing opportunities, financial help for overseas study and access to his extensive music library. Further to Gordon Jeffery s philanthropy, three world-famous violins two by Stradivari, and a third by Guarneri del Gesu were willed by him to Western University s Don Wright Faculty of Music after being loaned in his lifetime to outstanding young Canadian violinists. His huge library of rare scores, choral, orchestral and organ music may be found at the music faculties of Western, Wilfrid Laurier and Windsor, while two rare 18th-century keyboard instruments, a harpsichord and a famous restored organ, are now regularly enjoyed in Montreal and Quebec City. Gordon Jeffery s legacy continues through the Gordon Jeffery Music Foundation s support of the London Youth Symphony s mentorship program in which the young players receive regular coaching from senior university students.
