MAIN ATTRACTIONS Main Attractions What main films will play at the Ambler? This section lists the Main Attractions that we intend to play in the next few weeks. Additional unlisted films will also become available. This list is only an educated guess, though, since film release plans often change. When will these main films play? Scheduling our Main Attractions is weekto-week. On Monday, we decide what main films will play starting that Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the showtimes for the upcoming week and then update our website and telephone hotline. We also send out a weekly email (which you can receive by signing up at our website). Sometimes, we book a main film a few weeks in advance, which we post on our website s Coming Attractions section. For our latest Main Attractions plans, visit: AmblerTheater.org (Or call our hotline at 215 345 7855.) Chicken with Plums Celeste and Jesse Forever USA - Lee Toland Krieger 1 hr 29 min CELESTE & JESSE is an affectionate comedy about a married couple, played by Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg. She s a smart and well-dressed marketing exec. He s unemployed and looks like he just rolled out of bed. They decide to divorce, but to remain close friends. Needless to say, complications ensue. This is a fresh and appealing romantic comedy with winning performances from its leads. Rust and Bone France, Jacques Audiard, 1 hr 55 min w/subtitles A tender yet unsentimental love story about an injured woman who is confined to a wheel chair and a rough boxer who helps her gain new strength. RUST AND BONE beautifully blends a direct, raw naturalism with classical narrative filmmaking. This moving follow-up to Audiard s A Prophet stars French siren Marion Cotillard and Bullhead breakoutstar Matthias Schoenaerts. Sleepwalk with Me USA - Mike Birbiglia 1 hr 30 min SLEEPWALK WITH ME is a comedy written and directed by comedian Mike Birbiglia, who is also the film s star. The film follows the semi-autobiographical journey of an aspiring comedian in denial about his girlfriend, his career, and, most significantly, his sleepwalking disorder. The more he fails to express his true feelings, the worse his sleepwalking gets. Produced by This American Life s Ira Glass and featuring a stellar supporting cast.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS Robot and Frank USA - Jake Schreier 1 hr 30 min Set in the near future, Frank, who is retired, has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone. So they buy him a walking, talking robot programmed to look after him. This lovely and often hilarious film stars Frank Langella, who deftly handles the comedy while searching for emotional truth. With Susan Sarandon and Peter Sarsgaard. Anna Karenina UK Joe Wright ANNA KARENINA is the third collaboration between acclaimed actress Keira Knightley and director Joe Wright (the other two being Pride & Prejudice and Atonement). This new effort is a bold, theatrical vision of Tolstoy s epic novel. Set in 19th-century Russia, a married aristocrat enters into a life-altering affair. The movie features beautiful cinematography, stunning set design, and a script by Tom Stoppard. With Jude Law and Matthew MacFayden. The Master USA Paul Thomas Anderson Philip Seymour Hoffman stars as a charismatic intellectual who launches a religious organization in 1950s America. Joaquin Phoenix plays a drifter who becomes his right-hand man, but who then finds himself questioning the belief system of his mentor. With Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshofsky. This highly-anticipated film is the first in 5 years from director Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Magnolia). Arbitrage USA Nicholas Jarecki 1 hr 40 min ARBITRAGE is a taut and alluring suspense thriller about love, loyalty, and high finance. Richard Gere plays a New York hedge-fund magnate who is trying to sell his business before his massive securities fraud catches up with him. But soon a dead body turns up as well - with the unwanted attention of the NYPD not far behind. Featuring superb performances by Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Roth. Chicken with Plums France, Vincent Paronnaud & Marjane Satrapi, 1 hr 30 min, w/subtitles This magical film, set in 1958 Tehran, is about a renowned musician who has lost his zest for life. As he mourns the destruction of a beloved violin, he plunges into reveries about life and his past. The movie s set design is filled with lovely special effects and the film creatively incorporates animation in its flashbacks. This live-action gem is a delightful follow up to the filmmakers acclaimed Persepolis. Limited Engagements We try to play each of our Main Attractions films for a full multi-week run. Sometimes, however, we are unable to play a film in a timely or complete way. And then it becomes a question of either squeezing it in or not playing it at all. When that happens, we often schedule a film for a couple of mid-week screenings, called Limited Engagements. Make sure that you sign up for our weekly email, so that you don t miss these short, last-chance screenings. A MBLERT HEATER.ORG 215 345 7855

This film will be shown at other times as well, but this is the only scheduled appearance of the director. County: Sept 9 Sun 12:30 Ambler: Sept 30 Sun 12:30 COEN BROTHERS COEN BROTHERS County: Oct 3 Wed 7:30 Ambler: Oct 4 Thurs 7:30 La Dolce Vita 1960-2 hr 54 min - HD Digital - b/w Italy - d: Federico Fellini - w/subtitles Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg star in one of Fellini s most beloved films. Marcello, a gossip writer, finds himself caught up in the fleeting excesses and decadence of contemporary life. Torn between the allure of Rome s elite social scene and the stifling domesticity offered by his girlfriend, he searches for a way to become a serious writer. Modern Masters: The Coen Brothers In 1984, Joel and Ethan Coen burst onto the art-house film scene with their neo-noir Blood Simple. Their genre-bending films have blended black humor, seriousness, idiosyncratic characters, violence, and masterful filmmaking. This series celebrates the Coens with the screening of three of their early films as well as two special evenings where films will be taken apart and analyzed scene by scene. Blood Simple 1984-1 hr 39 min - HD Digital - color - USA d: Joel and Ethan Coen The Coen s first feature is a dark noir about a rich but jealous man, who hires a private investigator to kill his cheating wife and her new man. But, when blood is involved, nothing is simple, and the plot twists and turns as nothing goes according to plan.

CINEMATHEQUE AUTUMN SERIES 12 The Cinematheque series contains the combined schedules for both the County Theater and the Ambler Theater. COEN BROTHERS County: Oct 10 Wed 7:30 Ambler: Oct 11 Thurs 7:30 Ambler: Oct 24 Wed 7:30 COEN BROTHERS County: Oct 17 Wed 7:30 Ambler: Oct 25 Thurs 7:30 Film 101: Inside the Coen Brothers No Country for Old Men Temple University professor Maurizio Giammarco explores the workings of one of the Coens most popular films. NO COUNTRY adapts Cormac McCarthy s bleak novel about a Texan who stumbles upon $2 million and is pursued by a methodical killer and a local sheriff. The roles of prey and predator blur as the violent pursuit of money and justice collide. Please note: The film will NOT be screened in its entirety, although select scenes will be viewed and discussed. Free for members. Iranium 2011-57 min - digital - color - USA d: Alex Traiman Iranium is a documentary about the disquieting scenario posed to the free world by a nuclear Iran. The film examines the ideology guiding the Iranian regime and the problems it causes both inside and outside Iran s borders. Presented by WPHT radio host Dom Giordano and followed by a live discussion with Giordano. Barton Fink 1991-1 hr 56 min - HD Digital - color - USA d: Joel and Ethan Coen Set in 1941, a socially conscious New York playwright accepts an offer to write movie scripts in LA. There, he finds himself with writer s block when required to do a B-movie wrestling script. This scathing satire of Hollywood is dark and acidic and unforgettable. Starring John Turturro and John Goodman. Ambler: Oct 31 Wed 7:00 - party 8:15 - film COEN BROTHERS Ambler: Nov 1 Thurs 7:30 County: Nov 7 Wed 7:30 Ambler: Nov 4 Sun 12:30 County: Nov 11 Sun 12:30 Halloween Party: Attack of the Giant Leeches 1959-1 hr 2 min - digital - b/w - USA The Ambler Theater is happy to host a Halloween bash that will feature a screening of the horror film the Attack of the Giant Leeches with live music accompaniment by local band Agent Moosehead. The evening will also include a comedy performance by local comedy troupe Yes, Hello! The party starts at 7pm with drinks from the Forest and Main Brewing Company and a costume party. At 8:15 the festivities move into the theater. You need the movie s plot? A game warden and a local scientist try to kill monstrous swamp leeches that have been devouring the townspeople! Fargo 1996-1 hr 38 min - HD Digital - color - USA d: Joel and Ethan Coen Many critics consider this the best Coens film. It s bleak and hard-edged on the one hand and warm and folksy on the other. Set in rural North Dakota, FARGO features a pregnant, small-town police chief tracking two inept kidnappers. With outstanding performances from William H. Macy, Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi, and a superb supporting cast. Children of Paradise 1945-3 hr 10 min - HD Digital - b/w France - d: Marcel Carné - w/subtitles A classic epic of French film, Children of Paradise is the tragic tale of different men who fall for the same woman. This romantic saga takes place amid a theatrical community in 19th-century Paris, and is set against a backdrop of intrigue, duels and murder. The film, made in Nazi-occupied France during WWII, is seen as an allegory of that occupation.
