As defined in section 16710 - Telecommunications General Requirements. 1.4 SUBMITTALS The Contractor shall submit the following materials to the University prior to the initiation of project-related work. Quantities of taps, splitters, Amplifiers, and connectors, etc. shown on drawings indicate the system configuration. The Contractor is responsible for providing the final quantities of termination hardware required to terminate, patch, cross connect, etc., the volume of cable described herein and shown on the drawings. A. Product data for and typical rack-mounted arrangement for: (1) Rack mounted amplifiers (2) Broadband optical transmitters, receivers, and splitters (3) Broadband RF splitters, taps, terminators, and directional couplers (4) 75 Ohm coaxial cable and connectors (5) Multi-port balun shelve and baluns CATV Systems 16740-1

B. Manufacturer s Installation Instructions: Three copies of the manufacturer s installation instructions, prior to beginning any installation work, for the following equipment and components: (1) Rack mounted amplifiers (2) Broadband optical transmitters, receivers, and splitters (3) Broadband RF splitters, taps, terminators, and directional couplers C. Broadband Communications Engineer Qualifications (1) The Contractor shall submit documented proof that all work undertaken on the CATV (video) distribution system is under the direct supervision of a qualified broadband communications engineer. (2) A qualified broadband communications engineer is defined as someone who can demonstrate successfully completing the design and installation of multichannel radio frequency cable television systems for a period of at least five years or can demonstrate the completion of a manufacturer s certified training course in system design and a minimum of two years of experience. Experience shall include system design, acceptance testing, and documentation. (3) The submittal will document a minimum of five completed projects utilizing products and materials similar to those involved in the current work related to CATV distribution. D. Broadband Communications Technician Qualifications (1) The Contractor shall submit certification reflecting the qualifications of the technicians who will be responsible for the installation, activation, and testing of the CATV distribution system equipment. (2) If no such certification exists, the Contractor shall obtain the services of certified Broadband Communications Technicians to undertake the CATV distribution system work. E. CATV Distribution System Design Schematics (1) Prior to equipment installation, the Contractor shall submit design schematics that reflect signal levels and expected performance figures of the system, based upon the particular equipment to be used. (2) Prior to equipment installation, the Contractor shall submit a red-lined copy of the schematics that reflects any changes based upon field conditions, and product limitations. (3) After installation of the distribution system equipment, the Contractor shall submit as-built drawings that reflect the actual locations of the equipment installed and the method of interconnection. PART 2 - MATERIALS 2.1 RACK-MOUNTED AMPLIFIERS A. Materials (1) Rack mounted amplifiers shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (a) Frequency range: 54 to 750 MHz (b) Minimum full gain: 30 db (c) Attenuation range: 6 db (d) Slope control range: 10dB (e) Tilt range: +/-3 db (f) Return loss: 14 db (g) Channel loading: 110 channels (h) Output level: 45dBmV at 750 MHz (2) Rack mounted amplifiers shall be locally powered and designed to prohibit unauthorized access to electronic components. B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, Quality RF Services, Inc., QRAM860-34F; Thomas & Betts (Augat Communications Products), VFA-750; PDI, PDI-750-2W., Scientific- Atlanta 2.2 RACK-MOUNTED DIRECTIONAL COUPLERS A. Materials: Directional couplers shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Frequency range: 50 to 1000 MHz. (2) Housing and faceplate constructed of die cast aluminum (3) Minimum isolation: 18 db B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, General Instrument, SSP-K series; Scientific Atlanta, SADC series; Phillips Broadband Networks, TFC series. 2.3 RACK-MOUNTED LINE SPLITTERS A. Materials: Line splitters shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Frequency range: 50 to 1000 MHz. B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, General Instrument, SSP-K series; Scientific Atlanta, SAS series; Phillips Broadband Networks, TFC series. 2.4 RACK-MOUNTED EIGHT WAY SPLITTERS A. Materials: Eight way splitters shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Frequency range: 5 to 1000 MHz. (2) RFI: -130 db B. Manufacturers: SCS Standard, Viewsonics, VSP8-WSP or approved equivalent. 2.5 RACK MOUNTED COAX TO UTP DISTRIBUTION HUBS A. Materials: Rack mount panels shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Capacity 16 port Coax-to-UTP (2) Input signal: 75 ohm unbalanced coaxial signal (3) Output signal: 100 ohm balanced UTP signal (3) 16-8 pin modular jack output (4) Bandwidth: 5-860 MHz (5) Hubs shall be tested compliant with FCC Part 15 requirements (6) Common mode filtering, balancing and impedance matching B. Manufacturers: Lynx Broadband, SCS Supplier Standard Product or approved equivalent. 2.6 DROP TAPS A. Materials: Drop taps shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Frequency range: 50 to 1000 MHz. (2) Housing and faceplate constructed of die cast aluminum (3) Each tap labeled with the tap value (4) Eight ports only, with unused ports terminated with a 75 Ohm terminator B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, General Instrument, SSP-K series; and Scientific Atlanta, SAT series; Phillips Broadband Networks, 9800-C series. 2.7 BROADBAND OPTICAL TRANSMITTERS A. Materials: Optical transmitters shall meet or exceed the following specifications: CATV Systems 16740-4

(1) RF input operational bandwidth: 54 750 MHz. (2) RF input impedance: 75 Ohms (3) Optical output wavelength: 1310 nm, plus or minus 20 nm (4) Designed to prohibit unauthorized access to electronic components B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, General Instrument, Cableoptics series; Scientific Atlanta, Prisma series; Phillips Broadband Networks, Diamond Net series. 2.8 BROADBAND OPTICAL RECEIVERS A. Materials: Optical receivers shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Optical input wavelength: 1310 nm, plus or minus 20 nm (2) RF output operational bandwidth: 54 750 MHz. (3) RF output impedance: 75 Ohms (4) Designed to prohibit unauthorized access to electronic components B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, General Instrument, Cableoptics series; Scientific Atlanta, Prisma series; Phillips Broadband Networks, Diamond Net series. 2.9 OPTICAL SPLITTERS A. Materials: Optical splitters shall meet or exceed the following specifications: (1) Optical wavelength: 1310 nm, plus or minus 20 nm (2) Maximum insertion loss for 1X8 splitter/coupler: 11.5 db (3) Configured for 19 rack mounting or as a patch panel module. (4) Designed to prohibit unauthorized access to components B. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, Amphenol Corp., Fiberdyne Labs, Inc., Siecor, or approved equivalent. 2.10 CONNECTORS A. F-56 Connectors (1) The F style connectors for the RG-11 CATVP drop cable shall be equipped with an integral ribbed crimp ring. (2) Only a connector recommended by the cable manufacturer shall be installed. C. Manufacturers: SCS Stand Product, Gilbert Engineering, Inc., and Augat LRC. CATV Systems 16740-5

2.11 MISCELLANEOUS HARDWARE A. The Contractor shall provide and install all hardware necessary to produce a fully operational distribution system. B. Miscellaneous hardware shall include but is not limited to nuts, bolts, washers, screws, cable ties, attenuators, equalizers, terminators, straps, spacers, hooks, sleeves, strain reliefs, clamps, arms, braces, and brackets. C. Cables and Connectors: The following cables and connectors define the minimum standards for quality of materials and installation to be used on the project. The item proposed for the project may be the SCS Supplier s equivalent product. (1) Canare LV-77S video cable, installed for all baseband video interconnections. (2) Canare BCP-C4B connectors, installed for all baseband video interconnections. (3) Belden 8451 audio cable, installed for all baseband audio interconnections. (4) CANNON or Amphenol XLR connectors installed as required for all baseband audio interconnections. (5) Times Fiber Communications T10 headend cable, installed as required for all radio frequency device interconnections. (6) Augat LRC headend cable connectors, installed as required for all radio frequency device interconnections (7) Spiral wrap shall be utilized on any extended cables, exposed or not. (8) All cables shall be neatly placed and secured, allowing room for future relocation of equipment. (9) All cables shall be labeled on both ends with a unique identification label. (10) UTP station cables shall be terminated on a separate Category rated RJ45 8- position jack following EIA/TIA 568B wiring standards. Jacks shall be mounted in mounting frames and unused spaces will be filled with dust cover/blank. C. Terminators: The following terminators define the minimum standards for quality of materials and installation to be used on the project. D. Canare BCP-TA 75 Ohm terminators, installed as required on all baseband video interconnections. (1) Augat LRC F series 75 Ohm terminators, installed as required. E. Crimping Tools: The cable and/or connector manufacturer s recommended crimping tools shall be used for all headend facility connectors. F. Equipment Rack Cabinets: The following materials and procedures define the minimum standards for quality of materials and installation to be used on the project. The quantity CATV Systems 16740-6

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 SCOPE OF WORK required is campus-specific. (1) Rack frames shall be provided and installed in the headend facility as agreed with the University. (2) Standard pedestals shall be provided and installed to support each of the rack frames. (3) Side panels shall be provided and installed (one on each side of the rack system). (4) Top panels shall be provided and installed (one each on the top of the individual rack frames). (5) Stationary shelves shall be provided and installed in the headend equipment racks as agreed with the University. (6) Pullout shelves shall be provided and installed in the headend equipment racks as agreed with the University. (7) Slide kits shall be provided and installed in the headend equipment racks as agreed with the University. (8) Blank panels, as required, shall be provided and installed in the equipment racks. The face of all equipment racks shall be finished after the installation of the equipment is complete, providing a uniform surface without openings. (9) The manufacturer s recommendations shall be followed to adequately secure and brace the equipment racks to prevent tipping or equipment damage during a seismic event. (10) Manufacturers: Avaya Communications, Newton, Homaco, and Chatsworth. A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the professional installation of all CATV system passive and active equipment and the interconnection to the campus s headend facility, local cable television service provider, satellite antenna systems, etc. 3.2 COMPLETE SYSTEM A. The Contractor is responsible for coordinating the installation and activation of the CATV system to ensure that a complete and fully operational CATV system is available for immediate use. 3.3 GENERAL INSTALLATION GUIDELINES A. All CATV system installation and activation work shall be performed according to published industry guidelines, rules and regulations. If a dispute occurs, local, state and national codes have precedence; then University policies and procedures; then CATV Systems 16740-7

standards such as Electronics Industry Association (EIA), the National Cable Television Association (NCTA); then finally, the manufacturer s recommendations. B. All work shall be installed and constructed at the highest level of quality workmanship and professionalism. C. All semi-rigid coax cable connection within building and communication enclosure shall be protected by heat shrink tubing. Install tubing over coax connectors, and do not shrink tube until after the completion of acceptance testing. D. Bending coax cable in excess of 90 degrees during the splicing process will not be acceptable. Where required, use Gilbert or LRC 90 degree connectors. Install per manufacturers instructions. 3.4 DETAILED DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM DESIGN A. The Contractor shall provide the submittals identified in Section 1.4 before beginning any work on the CATV system identified in this section. B. The CATV system design submittals shall approximate the level of detail commonly expected for such applications, with the addition of projected loss figures based upon actual products to be used and the actual length of each coaxial and/or fiber optic cable run. C. The Contractor shall ensure that the CATV system meets or exceeds the following CATV system design criteria at any and all CATV system drops: (1) Minimum signal level: 3 dbmv (2) Maximum signal level: 10 dbmv (3) Maximum difference between adjacent video carriers: 1 db (4) Maximum difference between any video carriers: 7 db (5) Minimum audio/video carrier ratio: -13 db (6) Maximum audio/video carrier ratio: -17 db (7) Carrier to noise ratio: 43 db (minimum) (8) Hum: 1% (9) Tap isolation: 30 db (10) Reflections: -40 db 3.5 TESTING AND DOCUMENTATION CATV Systems 16740-8

A. The Contractor shall perform and document all tests and measurements recommended and/or required by the manufacturer of the individual products installed in the CATV system. B. The Contractor shall perform and document all tests and measurements recommended by the Federal Communications Commission, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, and the National Cable Television Association. C. The Contractor shall provide the University with the results of the proof of performance tests normally associated with CATV systems as a part of the final acceptance procedures. A qualified University representative shall witness all final testing and acceptance procedures. D. Visually inspect all cables, cable reels, and shipping cartons to detect cable damage incurred during shipping and transport.
