If you are serious about obtaining a role, you should stage the song as the character when you perform, no matter which role you are hoping for. It is also necessary to do this for the callback music when you are singing with another person, to the best of your ability in the time given. You will want to consider how the character would perform the song. Standing and singing as yourself is NOT to your advantage. There will be many students trying to obtain these roles and it is best to show the directors what you are capable of doing with a role; how else will they know? If you are interested in roles beyond the musical selections provided, you must incorporate how you see the other character(s) you are interested in into the music you are assigned to sing.
