The graduation ceremony on Wednesday 13 December is going to be an extraordinary eveningand also a lot of fun. It will recognise the hard work, commitment and dedication that you ve shown. RMIT s graduation ceremony is one of the biggest in the country. It will last for about one-and-a-half hours, with celebrations continuing afterwards. How to participate You can participate in the 2017 Melbourne Graduation Ceremony if you have: completed all your program requirements by the end of Semester 2 2017 submitted your work on time passed all your final exams and assessment tasks been authorised by your school by the due date to receive your award cleared any debts to the University and have no outstanding enrolment requirementsvisit RMIT Connect or call +61 3 9925 5000 during business hours if you have any queries. You won t be able to participate if you haven t met all academic requirements for your program, cleared any debts and have outstanding enrolment requirements before graduation. If you re completing your program in an RMIT Spring Semester course you can t attend the ceremony for that program as your results won t be available in time. To participate in the ceremony you must confirm your attendance online and pay the compulsory graduation fee of $170 (which includes the loan of your academic dress, guest tickets and is GST inclusive) by Sunday 22 October 2017. To do this, refer to your Confirm your attendance email. Check your personal details online It s very important that you ensure your details are correct and update them if required. Via Enrolment Online you can check your mailing address, your personal email address, the order in which your name will appear on your testamur (certificate) and the status of your graduation application. Record/update a personal email address Once you ve been conferred, RMIT is required by the Australian Data Retention Act 2015 to remove your access to all student systems, including your RMIT student account. So, it s essential that you register a current personal email address with RMIT or you ll miss out on important graduation communications. Accessing Enrolment Online as a current student Log in to myrmit via rmit.edu.au/myrmit and select Enrolment Online and My student record. Accessing Enrolment Online as a past student Go to rmit.edu.au/students/student-essentials/graduation and select How to apply followed by Apply to graduate. Select the link Apply to graduate as a past student or as a Vietnam student. Use your student number and password to log in to Enrolment Online and select My student record. What if you don t want to attend? If you decide not to attend the ceremony you must log in to Enrolment Online and change your graduation option. You may be eligible for a refund of any graduation fees you ve paid if your account is in credit. For more information go to Fees and payments at rmit.edu.au/students/student-essentials/fees-and-payments. If you decide not to attend after Thursday 7 December, your graduation fee will be held. Student and guest seating There will be 22 college presentation stages around the edge of the arena. Students will receive their testamurs concurrently. You ll be seated on the arena so you can see both the main stage and your peers. For example, Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) students will be seated in the Business presentation section. Your stage (e.g. A), row (e.g. D) and seat number (e.g. 18) will be displayed on the front of your ticket. (Please refer to the venue map on the last page.) Doctoral students will receive their testamurs on the main stage. Your guests will sit facing your college section and the main stage. Screens next to each section will show you being presented with your testamur (certificate) and display your name and award. Please note there is no reserved seating for guests. 6 7
Registration Gown and ticket collection On graduation day you must register between 2pm and 3pm at your stage. Your stage, row and seat details are noted on the front of your ticket. If you arrive late or don t register by 3pm, your name may be removed from the presentation list and you may not be able to participate in the ceremony. Academic dress All graduating students wear traditional academic dress including a gown, coloured hood or stole and a mortarboard/bonnet. RMIT s academic dress is based on the Oxford style. These represent the program you ve completed and the level of your award. Underneath your academic dress smart casual attire is recommended. More information about academic dress and how to wear it is available at rmit.edu.au/students/student-essentials/ graduation. Loan of your academic dress The compulsory graduation fee of $170 entitles you to the loan of your academic dress for the ceremony. Your complete academic dress must be returned at the conclusion of the ceremony. Academic dress return containers will be visible around the concourse and at all gates on Level 1 within Docklands Stadium. Your academic dress has a unique barcode that is recorded against your student number. If you fail to return any of the items, you ll be invoiced for the full purchase price and won t receive your final academic transcript until payment is made. Order your academic dress By Sunday 22 October 2017 you need to: confirm your attendance at graduation select the size of your academic dress pay the compulsory graduation fee of $170 (GST inclusive). To do this, refer to your Confirm your attendance email. Guest tickets You re guaranteed four tickets for your guests. You can request extra tickets, however, they re subject to availability. There s no charge for extra guest tickets. Please note guest seating isn t reserved. To order your guest tickets you must confirm your attendance online by Sunday 22 October. You can collect your ticket pack and academic dress at the gown and ticket collection days listed below. You ll receive more information by the end of November. Your proxy must bring your RMIT student card or letter of authority (student number included) for identification. Keep your tickets in a safe place. Video recording Transport The Melbourne Graduation Ceremony will be recorded, capturing your important moments on film. The award presentation along with footage of the activities on the main stage will be available via YouTube. Your unique link will be emailed to you before the end of December 2017. Individual photo A photo will be taken of you when you re presented with your certificate on stage.* You can purchase this photo 48 hours after graduation day through Reed Graduations. Photos will be available for purchase for one year only. rmit.reedgraduations.com.au. * No selfies are permitted to be taken while you re being presented with your certificate. Merchandise RMIT gifts and merchandise A selection of RMIT branded official merchandise and graduation gifts will be available for purchase at the gown and ticket collection days and at sales outlets located at the graduation ceremony. On graduation day at Federation Square where the Graduation Parade concludes there will be a pop-up store where you can purchase graduation bears. Visit Reed Graduations at rmit.reedgraduations.com.au. Docklands Stadium Traffic will be extremely heavy on the night as we re expecting over 30,000 attendees at the event. Public transport is strongly recommended as parking spaces are extremely limited. The most convenient way to access Docklands Stadium is by tram or train. Tram services Additional tram services will be operating before and after the ceremony from La Trobe Street (to arrive at Gate 7), Bourke Street (to arrive at Gate 3) and Collins Street to Docklands Stadium. Train services Get off the train at Southern Cross Station and walk the very short distance across the Bourke Street pedestrian bridge directly to Docklands Stadium. Car parking If you decide to drive, to avoid significant traffic delays we suggest you park at the following Wilson Parking locations and then walk or take public transport directly to the venue: Southern Cross Station car park located at 163 235 Spencer Street, Docklands La Trobe Street car parks located at 300 and 380 La Trobe Street, Melbourne Queen Street car park located at 200 Queen Street, Melbourne. For prices and full details visit wilsonparking.com.au. Due to tenants permanent parking, there are very limited parking spaces available at Docklands Stadium. Access for people with a disability There are drop-off points on Bourke Street and Harbour Esplanade for lift access to the external venue concourse, providing easy entry to the venue. See the map on pages 14 and 15 for details. More information on mobility impaired access at Docklands Stadium is available at etihadstadium.com.au/getting-here. Food and beverage outlets will be open from 1pm. You must allow enough time to be registered by 3pm for the ceremony. Prams and strollers are permitted into the stadium. They must be stowed under a seat or cloaked free of charge at the Customer Service Desk on Level 1, Aisle 43 (inside Gate 4). 12 13
